The first draft of the so-called “social contract”, based on views shared by concerned political parties and groups, was tabled for consideration on Monday by the panel tasked with crafting it.
The panel, under the government-initiated reconciliation preparation committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan, examined the wording and details addressed in the draft, prior to it being fine-tuned later this week.
The draft will then be forwarded to the Prawit committee for acknowledgement, before being sent out for people look at it again in public forums expected to be held nationwide.
The plan is that it would then be crafted further, before being submitted to the supreme committee on reform, reconciliation and national strategy – chaired by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha – for endorsement as a social contract agreed by all sides and expected to help smooth the holding of the next general election.
General Chalermchai Sitthisart, Army Chief and chair of the panel, said the current draft was relatively comprehensive, covering all 10 issues that the committee had asked involved parties to offer their views on.
His panel will meet again on Friday to finalise its crafting, before forwarding it to Prawit’s committee, he added.
