A RETIRED electrical engineer arrested for planting a bomb at Phramongkutklao Hospital and other spots in Bangkok will be handed over to police on Tuesday.
Wattana Pummares, 61, was arrested last week under a junta order that empowers soldiers to detain suspects. National police chief Pol General Chakthip Chaijinda and his deputy, Pol General Srivara Rangsibhramanakul, as chief investigator, will receive the suspect at the police headquarters.
Wattana, who worked for the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand, has allegedly admitted he was responsible for three blasts in Bangkok earlier this year and three more in 2007, because he dislikes the military.
The initial schedule for tomorrow is for the suspect to be informed of the arrest warrant and charges that he faces. He will be fingerprinted and undergo a body examination.
A source said Chakthip will hold a press conference but whether the suspect will be present is up to the suspect’s decision.
It was also reported that investigators on the case found no link between Wattana’s alleged bomb attack and his second wife, who was said to have a similar political outlook. At this stage, the woman will be released and could become a witness, the source said, adding it was believed that Wattana was “a lone wolf”.
The woman allegedly met the suspect at their condo in Nonthaburi prior to each of the six incidents, the last of which took place on May 22 at the Armyrun Phramongkutklao Hospital.
