A malfunctioning escalator might have contributed to a six-month-pregnant woman’s fatal fall onto the Airport Rail Link tracks on Monday, according to a village headman.
Mai Natum, the village head of Ban Na Sa in Nan province, said on Wednesday that the escalator was out of order at the Ban Thap Chang Station on that morning, requiring Rosarin Plianlar to walk up a long stairway.
“It must have been three floors up,” Mai said. “She might have become too exhausted after arriving at the platform.”
Mai made the comments after talking to Rosarin’s family as her body was brought from Bangkok to her hometown of Nan for funeral services.
Rosarin’s husband Piyapong Rorbkorb said he was still unable to cope with the loss.
“My family is grieving. We have not yet talked to the Airport Rail Link operator. For now, we want to focus on holding a proper funeral for her first,” Piyapong said.
Rosarin’s cremation will take place on Sunday.
