A filmmaker has filed a lawsuit for non-payment of fees against the producers of romantic drama “1.44 Puentee Rak”, which has been in cinemas since last month.
Sathanapong Limwongthong was the original director of the film back in the days when it was titled “Micro Love”. The film brings TV actor James Ma to the big screen for the first time opposite Korean actress and singer Ham Eun-jong, a member of the girl band T-ara. The title was later changed to “Mind Memory” and then to “1.44 Puentee Rak”.
Sathanapong was replaced as director following undisclosed problems with an investor. He left the production expecting to be paid for his time but with no fees forthcoming is taking his case to court.
“I spoke with them but we have not yet come to a conclusion. I have tried to set up a meeting with the production company but they did not turn up for the appointments, claiming that they were not available due to unforeseen circumstances on both occasions. I then filed a letter stating that they owe me money. In return, they filed a letter telling me of my termination for their own reasons. Therefore my team and I turned to the justice system for the next course of action,” says Sathanapong.
The producers were a no-show at the first court hearing in early January though they did send their lawyers to answer the case, A second court appearance on January 23 saw a representative of the company and a lawyer attending to discuss options but no agreement could be reached.
“So I’m continuing with the case. The courts will call upon witnesses and evidence testimony in July,” he says.
Sathanapong was a producer of the documentary “Poo Somboon” (“Somboon”), which opened the World Film Festival of Bangkok in 2014. He also works as a director, producer and with foreign film shoots in Thailand.
