The Sea Turtle Conservation Centre at Chon Buri’s Sattahip Naval Base will release sea turtles into the seas on July 26 to celebrate His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s birthday two days later.
The sea turtles, mostly green turtles and hawksbill sea turtles, are being prepared for release.
As sea turtle habitats have deteriorated, the Royal Thai Navy has reserved nesting areas for the endangered species and is preventing humans from entering the areas.
Naval officers will monitor island beaches until the eggs hatch and then bring the hatchlings to the centre, where they will remain for up to six months before being released into the sea.
The centre is open to the public for free 8.30am to 5pm daily.
