The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) plans to develop more of its schools to be able to teach children with special needs.
Thanitas Praewanich, director the BMA’s Education Department, said on Monday that 128 of its schools already had teachers and facilities for teaching children with special needs, with 3,300 such students receiving specialised education from kindergarten to high school, and that the BMA planned to increase those numbers.
Thanitas said special needs children are able to learn music, physical education, health and other subjects with general students, but need special classes in maths and science subjects, where their learning pace is slower.
She said in those cases where special needs children have separate classes these are conducted at the rate of ten students per teacher.
