One of the two sisters in the highly publicised axe-and-shovel attack on a pickup truck that was parked blocking the entrance gate to their Bangkok home last month, has filed a charge of filing a false police complaint against their disputant, claiming that the implements used were agricultural tools, not weapons as alleged.

Accompanied by her lawyer Anantachai Chaidech, Rattanachat Seangyoktrakan, 61, lodged the complaint and submitted evidence to police at 10am on Friday.

The 37-year-old female pickup driver, Ratchanikorn Lertwasana, had filed three charges against Rattanachat and 57-year-old Maneerat Saengpattarachote – formerly identified as Ranee Saengyoktrakan – for property damage, threat and carrying weapons to a public place.

Ratchanikorn’s complaint was filed at Prawet police station on March 5.

Anantachai said that a video clip of the incident had also revealed that Rattanachat and her sister had called on Ratchanikorn to move her pickup from in front of their gate, but the woman failed to do so, after which the two sisters “had protected their rights” by attacking the vehicle.

The lawyer said that while the sisters’ response was not legitimate, it reflected how much stress they had had to put up with given the trouble caused by unauthorised market activities and vehicles being parked and blocking their gate on a daily basis for nearly 10 years.

Prawet police station superintendent Pol Colonel Alongkorn Sirisongkhram said police would gather further evidence, and would then summon Ratchanikorn this coming Monday to hear the charge linked to the gate-blocking parking of her pickup.

The case should be concluded by the end of next week, he added.
