Khanathit Srihirundej, a veteran news photographer, was named the first runner-up in the “top crime photograph” category for his photo entitled “Every Life is Valuable”.

The winning photo was taken in the aftermath of a fire in a crowded Bangkok community, showing a firefighter trying to pull a terrified cat from a burned-out pole that it was clinging to tightly. Other media outlets in the Nation Multimedia Group have also won awards in this competition organised by the Association of Crime Reporters and Big C Supercenter.

Photographer Kornkamol Aksorndej of the Kom Chad Luek newspaper won a “victory jacket” award for her photo entitled “Firefighters”. She took the photo of the firefighting operation during a blaze in a Bangkok community last year.

NMG’s Nation TV also won this year’s awards in the “news reports for social causes” category.

The 24-hour news station won two “victory jacket” awards for its reports on fake educational credential documents and on call-centre criminal gangs.
