Heavy rains forecast for many parts of the country

The Thailand Meteorological Department forecast on Thursday (May 21) a rather strong southwest monsoon across the Andaman Sea and Thailand.

Heavy rains are forecast in some parts of Thailand where people should beware of severe conditions, while moderate wind waves are likely in the Andaman Sea. From Phuket upwards, waves two metres high are forecast and more than two metres during thundershowers. Ships have been advised to proceed with caution, keep away from storms, and small boats should stay ashore.

The weather forecast for the next 24 hours is as follows:

Northern region: Cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 24-26 degrees and highs of 35-39 degrees Celsius.

Northeastern region: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-29 degrees and highs of 35-38 degrees Celsius.

Central region: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 35-39 degrees Celsius.

Eastern region: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas and isolated heavy rains; temperature lows of 26-28 degrees, highs of 34-38 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.

Southern region (east coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-27 degrees, highs of 34-36 degrees Celsius; waves a metre high and 1-2 metres during thundershowers.

Southern region (west coast): Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 24-26 degrees, highs of 32-35 degrees Celsius; waves two metres high and over two metres during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 30 per cent of the areas; temperature lows of 27-28 degrees, highs of 35-38 degrees Celsius.
