‘Inaccurate’ Covid test kit not available in Thailand, says FDA

A Covid-19 test kit whose accuracy is being questioned by US health authorities has not been imported for sale in Thailand, according to the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

FDA secretary-general Dr Paisarn Dunkum confirmed the ID NOW Covid-19 test kit, manufactured by US firm Abbott, had not been shipped to Thailand.

The FDA chief was responding to news that the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) had issued a warning alert for the ID NOW Covid-19 test kit, which is used at the White House and at hospitals throughout America. There are at least 15 reports of inaccurate results from the test kit.

“We checked the medical device registration database and found no such product has been registered or imported into Thailand. It is only being sold in the United States,” said Dr Paisarn.

The FDA said it is monitoring all Covid-19 test kits in Thailand to ensure they are safe and accurate.
