The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is speeding up its work in preparation for new organic laws that it has to deliberate within a 60-day time frame.
NLA spokesman Jate Siratharanont said the assembly would tomorrow hold a seminar to prep its members for the four organic laws required for the next general election. The assembly is also planning a retreat trip during which they would intensively examine the laws before passing them, he added.
Jate expressed concern that 60 days was a rather limited time. Because of this, the NLA had to make sure it was ready to start working immediately when the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) passed the laws to them, he said. The laws are necessary to organise an election promised in the junta’s road map either next year or early in 2018.
CDC chairman Meechai Ruchupan has said that the four organic laws would be forwarded to the NLA after the constitution’s promulgation.
