“We are worried about the situation as shootings have recently occurred on a daily basis in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces,” Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Centre’s deputy commissioner Pol Maj-General Tanongsak Wangsupha said on Sunday during his working visit to Pattani province.

He said he had received reports that the RKK, an insurgent group active in the southern region, had recently deployed new members in operations.

Tanongsak said his agency would coordinate with relevant authorities to boost security measures.

“We will comprehensively man checkpoints on both main and secondary routes,” he said.

He also urged local residents to alert authorities if they received tip-offs or noticed suspicious activity.
