Members of the public and Tak disaster prevention and mitigation officials on Friday handed over donated money and some needed items to Mae Pa Nua School in Tak’s Mae Sot district which was destroyed by a fire on Thursday night.
Many students and parents showed up to look over the debris of what was a 60-year-old wooden building that housed the school director’s office, a computer center, a marching band room and Prathom 3-6 classrooms. The fire, which caused total damages estimated at Bt4 million, also affected the residences of teachers and a janitor.
School director Songkran Yanoya suspected that the fire that broke out at 8pm on Thursday resulted from a short circuit in the computer center.
Firefighters took more than an hour to control the blaze.
Images of the fire were circulated on Thai social media and prompted former students and staff to come up with a Buddhist merit making event to raise funds to help the school.
