A sports subcommittee of the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) has proposed the inclusion of Muay Thai in the national educational curriculum to help develop the Thai sport.
The chairman of the NLA subcommittee on sports, Maj-General Jaruk Areeratchakaran, said on Wednesday that his panel had been working on plans to elevate and develop Muay Thai, which is currently lacking an integrated body or system to regulate, control, direct or even protect its interests both domestically and abroad.
Jaruk suggested that educational institutions add Muay Thai in their curriculum as a formal class or a special activity to promote physical workouts.
He said such an approach would help students learn and understand more about the Thai traditional sport while helping to preserve it.
The subcommittee also proposed the setting up of an agency or putting a group of individuals in charge of Muay Thai.
A suggestion report will be prepared and presented to the NLA committee overseeing education and sports for its consideration soon.
