About 500 residents of Pattani’s Mueang district and the authorities staged a march on Thursday morning calling for an end to violence the deep South.
They rallied at 8.30am in front of the Big C shopping mall where bombs placed on a motorcycle and in a pickup truck exploded on Tuesday afternoon, injuring 61 people. They gathered at the Srinakarindra Park before marching to the mall.
The marchers, led by Mueang district chief Chaiyaporn Niyomkaew and the heads of its tambon and villages, carried banners condemning violence against innocent people.
They called on all parties involved to cooperate on finding a peaceful solution to the unrest that has long plagued the southern border provinces.
The Big C mall remained closed Thursday, guarded by police and soldiers.
