The construction of the new Bt12-billion parliament building in Bangkok’s Kiakkai area would face a third delay due to issues with land.
Sorasak Pienvej, secretary-general to the House of Representatives, said that the decision on the delay should be made within this year after Sino-Thai Engineering and Construction sought an extra 926 days to complete the construction.
If the deadline is extended, the construction should be finished by December 31, 2019 and the building become operational the following year, Sorasak said.
The construction, 36 per cent completed as of now, should be 50 per cent ready by the end of this year, he said.
Around Bt2 billion has been spent on its construction this fiscal year from the total Bt3-billion budget for the year. The budget for the next fiscal year is set at Bt3.9 billion, he said.
The secretary-general added that he had ordered the construction advisers to consider the contractor’s proposal before forwarding it to the building construction inspection committee.
