BANNAPOT Damapong, a brother of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra’s ex-wife, has been implicated in the Klongchan Credit Union Cooperative (KCUC) scandal.
Two plots of land registered in Bannapot’s name in Klong Luang in Pathum Thani have been “frozen” by officials.
Pol General Chaiya Siriamphunkul, secretary-general of the Anti-Money Laundering Office (Amlo), said yesterday that evidence suggested the plots may be related to embezzlement at the Klongchan cooperative.
“Bannapot bought these land plots from M-Home SPV 2 Co Ltd,” Chaiya said.
This firm was at one point taken over by Supachai Srisupa-aksorn, the KCUC former boss now in jail for embezzlement.
Supachai illegally diverted Bt275 million from the cooperative to acquire M-Home SPV 2 Co Ltd, whose assets included several land plots in Klong Luang. Authorities say M-Home SPV 2 sold one plot to property tycoon Anant Asavabhokhin at a suspiciously low price, and he faces charges in regard to that deal. Now, scrutiny has shifted to Bannapot, brother of Potjaman na Pombejra, Thaksin’s ex-wife.
