Tropical depression Wipha feeds 35 dams

Thongplew Kongjun, the department’s director general, said the tropical depression has been bringing heavy rains since July 30, which has boosted water levels in 35 dams by about 2 billion cubic metres, with 633 million cubic metres in the four major dams in the Chao Phraya Basin.
He added that Wipha has also brought rain to the North and Northeast, and increased the level of Nan River, which feeds the Sirikit Dam.
Under Wipha’s influence, there has been heavy rain in the Central region as well as in the East of the country, which has increased water levels in Sri Nakarin and Vajiralongkorn dams by 736 million cubic metres. This water will be redirected to water-treatment plants before the water is distributed in the east of Bangkok.
