A large group of violent protesters occupied the area outside the police station since around 2 pm Saturday.

They set up barricades with water-filled barriers, bamboo sticks and other objects on Wai Yip Street, paralyzing traffic and affecting the emergency services in the area.

Some of them damaged lampposts and vandalized government properties there.

As police arrived at the scene, they started fires and hurled bricks at police lines, posing a serious threat to the safety of police officers and passers-by.

Police condemned all violent acts by protesters and advised residents nearby to stay tuned to the latest situation and keep their windows shut and stay indoors.
