The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) has filed a complaint against six drivers who used the expressway to carry yellow-shirt royalists to Democracy Monument on Wednesday.
Photographs of the Department of Law Enforcement trucks carrying yellow-clad royalists down the Kamphaeng Phet-Yommarat tollway were met with criticism on social media, as netizens asked if the drivers had violated the law.
Meanwhile, tollway collectors said since they were seated and the truck beds were high, they could not see what was being carried.
However, they said the truck drivers violated the 2012 Expressway Traffic Act, which states that passengers in the rear of a pick-up truck without cover and two rows of seats is not allowed as it can possibly bring danger to the individuals and property.
“Hence the expressway authority has filed police complaints against the truck drivers, who will be fined Bt1,000 for breaking the law,” officials said.
The royalists were being taken to Rajdamnoen Avenue to greet a Royal motorcade. Some of the yellow-clad crowd were even seen raising the three-finger salute in support of the anti-government protesters.
