Thundershowers, isolated heavy rain forecast for most of Thailand

Continuous rainfall is likely across the country, with isolated heavy showers in the Northeast, the Central region, the East and the South, the Thailand Meteorological Department said on Thursday.

It advised people in risky areas to beware of the severe conditions and warned all ships to proceed with caution while small boats must stay ashore amid strong wind in the Andaman Sea and waves that are expected to be 2-3 metres high and more than 3 metres in areas experiencing thundershowers.

The department also said that from Thursday to Saturday a category 1 active low-pressure cell over the Philippines was expected to move to the middle South China Sea and develop into a category 2 tropical depression that is likely to affect Thailand.

Here’s the weather forecast for the next 24 hours:

North: Mostly cloudy with thundershowers in 40 per cent of the area; temperature lows of 22-25 degrees and highs of 33-34 degrees Celsius.

Northeast: Cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the area and isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 23-24 degrees and highs of 31-33 degrees Celsius.

Central: Cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the area and isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 23-25 degrees, highs of 32-34 degrees Celsius.

East: Cloudy with thundershowers in 70 per cent of the area and isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 23-26 degrees, highs of 29-32 degrees Celsius; waves 2-3 metres high and over 3 metres during thundershowers.

South (east coast): Cloudy with thundershowers in 70 per cent of the area and isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 23-25 degrees, highs of 30-34 degrees Celsius; waves 2 metres high and over 2 metres during thundershowers.

South (west coast): Cloudy with thundershowers in 70 per cent of the area and isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 23-24 degrees, highs of 30-33 degree Celsius; waves 2-3 metres high and over 3 metres during thundershowers.

Bangkok and surrounding areas: Cloudy with thundershowers in 60 per cent of the area and isolated heavy rain; temperature lows of 24-25 degrees, highs of 32-34 degrees Celsius.
