Most Thais more conscious about eating habits amid Covid-19 crisis: poll
The majority of respondents to a Suan Dusit Poll survey said they were concerned about food during the Covid-19 era. The survey “Thai foods in the Covid-19 era” was conducted between April 26 and 29 on 1,192 samples nationwide.
Asked about their concerns related to foods before and after the Covid-19 outbreak:
70.94 per cent said they paid more attention now;
26.00 per cent said they paid as much now as they did before the outbreak;
3.06 per cent said they paid less attention now.
Asked about changes to their eating practices during the Covid-19 era (multiple choice):
75.81 per cent said they cooked food at home;
71.70 per cent said they paid attention to food cleanliness;
59.99 per cent said they chose foods that were good for health;
56.22 per cent said they paid attention to food containers;
49.86 per cent said they chose foods that could protect them from Covid-19.
When asked if they believed that certain foods could protect them from Covid-19:
47.53 per cent said they believed;
37.90 per cent said they were not sure;
14.57 per cent said they did not.
When asked what foods could protect people from Covid-19 (multiple choice):
55.09 per cent said foods with herbs;
50.63 per cent said “pad krapao” (stir-fried basil);
48.95 per cent said foods with ginger;
42.56 per cent said “tom yam” (spicy soup);
32.30 per cent said “kaeng zom marum” (sour curry with drumstick).
Asked about the respondents’ favourite foods during the Covid-19 era (multiple choice):
32.23 per cent said “pad krapao” (stir-fried basil);
24.91 per cent said “tom yam” (spicy soup);
21.60 per cent said “pad pak” (stir-fried vegetables);
17.60 per cent said “nam prik” (spicy chili sauce);
12.89 per cent said egg recipes.
Asked about their expenditure on foods during the Covid-19 era:
39.42 per cent said they spent more than before the pandemic;
36.69 per cent said they spent the same amount;
23.89 per cent said their expenses had decreased.
Respondents’ expense on foods amid the Covid-19 crisis was on average around THB226.74 per day.
Bangkokians averaged THB268.04 per day and people in other provinces THB207.04 per day
