Thailand logs in 1,871 new Covid cases, 10 deaths
The Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on Thursday reported 1,871 new cases and 10 deaths.
The fatalities included six in Bangkok, and one each in Nakhon Sawan, Samut Prakan, Yasothon and Ayutthaya.
The ages of those who succumbed to the virus ranged between 45 and 91, and all of them reportedly suffered from chronic conditions.
Meanwhile, of the 1,871 new cases, 689 were in Bangkok, followed by 151 in Samut Prakan, 112 in Chonburi and 69 in Chiang Mai.
The new infections also included seven arrivals from overseas. Of them, five were Thai nationals from India, Malaysia, Switzerland, Japan and Hungary. The other two were a Malaysian national and an Indian, both of whom arrived from their own country.
Meanwhile, 992 patients have recovered and been discharged in the last 24 hours.
As of Thursday, the number of confirmed cases in Thailand had risen to 63,570. Of these, 60,266 had been contracted locally, including 21,874 who were found via proactive testing, while 3,304 were returnees.
So far, 35,394 have recovered and been discharged, 27,988 patients are still in hospitals, and 188 have died.
Since April 1, 94 people have succumbed to the virus, CCSA said. Thailand’s third wave of Covid-19 infections was sparked by some cluster cases in mid-March.
According to Worldometer, as of 11am on Thursday, the number of confirmed cases globally had risen to 150.21 million (up by 885,604), 127.73 million have recovered, 19.32 million are active cases (110,779 in severe condition) and 3.16 million have died (up by 15,284).
Thailand ranks 104th on the global list of most cases, which is topped by the US with 32.98 million, followed by India 18.36 million, Brazil 14.52 million, France 5.56 million, and Russia 4.78 million.
Separately, another 20,761 people were given their first shot of vaccine in the last 24 hours, while 44,172 people were given their second shot, bringing the total number of Covid-19 vaccines administered in Thailand to 1,344,646.
