Thundershowers forecast for Bangkok with isolated heavy rain in all regions
The southwest monsoon across the Andaman Sea, Thailand and the Gulf of Thailand is beginning to strengthen, while a low-pressure cell covers upper Vietnam, the Thailand Meteorological Department said on Sunday.
More rain is forecast for most parts of the country, with isolated heavy rain in the North, the upper Northeast, the East and the South (west coast).
People should beware of the severe weather, the department said.
Wind waves in the Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand are getting stronger. In the Andaman Sea, waves 1-2 metres high are expected and more than two metres high in thundershower areas.
All ships should proceed with caution during thundershowers, the department said.
The weather forecast for the next 24 hours:
Bangkok and its vicinity: Scattered thundershowers, mostly afternoon to evening; minimum temperature 27-29 degrees Celsius, maximum 34-38°C; southwesterly winds 10-20 km/hr.
North: Scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain, mostly in Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae and Tak provinces; minimum temperature 23-27°C; maximum 35-37°C; southwesterly winds 10-20 km/hr.
Northeast: Scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rains and gusty winds, mostly in Loei, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Surin, Si Sa Ket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces; minimum temperature 24-27°C, maximum 30-36°C; southwesterly winds 10-20 km/hr.
Central: Scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain, mostly in Ratchaburi, Suphanburi, Kanchanaburi, Chai Nat, Uthai Thani, Nakhon Sawan and Lopburi provinces; minimum temperature 25-27°C, maximum 36-38°C; southwesterly winds 10-20 km/hr.
East: Scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain, mostly in Nakhon Nayok, Prachinburi, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces; minimum temperature 25-28°C, maximum 31-35°C; southwesterly winds 15-30 km/hr; waves about a metre high and 1-2 metres in thundershowers.
South (east coast): Scattered thundershowers mostly in Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat provinces; minimum temperature 23-27°C, maximum 33-37°C; southwesterly winds 10-30 km/hr; waves below a metre high and 1-2 metres in thundershowers.
South (west coast): Scattered thundershowers with isolated heavy rain, mostly in Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket and Krabi provinces; minimum temperature 23-26°C, maximum 33-35°C; southwesterly winds 15-35 km/hr; waves 1-2 metres high and above two metres in thundershowers.
