The Sai Jai Thai Foundation under Royal Patronage turns 41 this year and it’s celebrating by joining with Siam Paragon for the “Sai Jai Thai Week”.

The fair, which opens tomorrow (September 19) and runs through September 24, features more than 2,000 handmade products created by Sai Jai Thai members. All proceeds from sales go to charitable causes under the foundation.

ML Saralee Kitiyakorn will preside over the opening on behalf of Her Royal Highness Princess Somsavali tomorrow at 3pm.

Actress Khemanit “Pancake” Jamikorn and more than 35 honorary models will showcase Thai traditional costumes and present a new collection of Sai Jai Thai products such as drawings of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, a bag from the Wild Boar collection, a wide range of pig-related products to welcome the Year of Pig, satin silk scarves and more.

Thanpuying Phungchai Sindhvananda, director of the Sai Jai Thai Foundation, reminds shoppers that the “Sai Jai Thai Week” aims to promote the work of military men, volunteers, and their families, as well as to earn income for the Vocational Training Development Centre.

The foundation is currently looking after more than 4,000 members, helping them support themselves and to generate sufficient earnings for their families.

“Shoppers should buy our products in recognition of the value, creativity and endeavour that they represent and not only because they sympathise with our members. We continue to improve our products to match the modern lifestyle in order to increase their value,” she said.

Suthipong Deebang, former voluntary field army in Uttaradit and member of the Sai Jai Thai Foundation, who lost his right leg in a bomb-blast in 1991, added: “When I was in the army, I had never heard of the Sai Jai Thai Foundation. While I was in hospital I worried a lot about how I would live as a disabled person. When I was moved to Phra Mongkut Hospital, an official from the Sai Jai Thai Foundation contacted me to offer their help. I decided to become a member of the foundation and work here after receiving training in the glass pattern department. Today I have a job and can earn money to feed my family. The foundation makes my life valuable; I can feed myself and my family and have a life like normal people.”

Romrawin Clinic’s top executives Kuanrutai Damrongwattanapokin and Dr. Thanisorn Thamlikitkul recently launched the clinic’s new “Beauty 360 at Romrawin” campaign with an event Siam Paragon’s fashion hall.

The objective of the campaign is to help women create the perfect look and the event brought together socialites and celebrities to learn about the newest beauty trends and innovative technologies.

Managing director Kuanrutai kicked off the campaign with a brief speech. “Over the last 14 years, we have provided excellent skincare treatments and services by using modern equipment and technology. Developing and maintaining client satisfaction is our main mission and our experienced dermatologists and staff have been trained to offer customers professional consults on the newest beauty technology and services,” she said.

“Romrawin has created four new beauty programmes using the newest beauty technologies available that help both men and women enhance their looks, from head to toe. We help our customers to be confident with a beautiful and radiant facial skin, to be slim and slender and boast a youthful hairstyle without the use of surgery.”

The facial treatment programme NU PICO by Enlighten makes use of the new Picosecond Laser, the most effective treatment of its kind for pigment removal, acne scars, firming and tightening, skin rejuvenation and skin brightening. The Picosecond Laser works with ultrashort pico-second laser pulses that fracture particles into smaller fragments. These smaller fragments are much easier to remove form the body. The short pulse duration also means that the skin heats less and reduces the risk of hyper-pigmentation, which can sometimes occur in laser procedures. The laser also stimulates collagen production, providing elasticity to the skin, thus helping it look more youthful and healthier.

Therma FLX is a cosmetic procedure that helps smoothening , tightening and contouring the skin and gives an overall younger looking appearance. Therma FLX uses radio-frequency technology to heat the deep and collagen rich layers. The heat tightens existing collagen layers and stimulates the formation of new collagen. The procedure uses a gentle vibrating sensation for added patient comfort and is suited to all skin conditions.

The Fat Freezing programme by CoolSculpting, developed by Harvard University, helps control cooling targets necessary to eliminate fat cells underneath the skin.

Hair CelReju stimulates hair growth without surgery by extracting platelet-rich fibrin matrix from one’s own blood and by injecting them in the hair roots. Hair CelReju is fantastic for growing stronger hair and limiting and eliminating the effects of hair loss.

Romwarin’s medical director Dr Thanisorn reminded guests that the skin needed pampering after laser treatment. “Skin that has been lasered is sensitive and will become drier and start to peel. It is important to avoid exposure to the sun for 2 to 4 weeks after treatment. Sun lotions with a SPF 30 factor or more with UVA/UVB protection are recommended. Most importantly is moisture preservation by applying a gentle moisturiser and drinking 1.5 to 2 litres of water daily. Avoid saunas or hot tubs for the first couple of days after the treatment. Do not touch, pick or scratch the skin of the treatment area. The skin scab will automatically peel off after seven days. Also a few days after the laser treatment, patient should avoid using skin care product with ingredients that include Vitamin A or Retinal as this may stimulate the irritation.”

The Spoken Word Exchange – a grassroots, creative writing initiative, providing groups of artists and spectators from around the world the opportunity to experience and learn about each other’s culture through poetry – comes to Bangkok on from October 14 to 18.

Organised by Bangkok Lyrical Lunacy, the Exchange features Miami poets Arsimmer and Calvin “MadeSon”, who travel around the world developing a global network of poets.

Participants will have free time to enjoy the clean air, ride around Bang Krachao, visit the local Bang Nam Phueng Market, and do some writing when inspiration hits. Bike rentals will be included.

An intercultural dialogue will be held on October 16 led by Arsimmer and Early as a way to build bridges between the different worlds represented, while on October 18 at Live Lounge, open mic shows and poetry showcases will feature the talents of the masterminds behind the SpokenWord Exchange.

Registration cost, including 3 workshops, poetry show, bike rental and boat ride to Bang Krachao from Khlong Toei Pier, is Bt2,000 or Bt1,700 for bookings made before September 16.

Twenty chefs and restaurant executives from eight countries – Vietnam, Philippines, India, Nepal, Japan, Hong Kong, France and Thailand – recently took part in a five-day trip to educate them in the art of Isaan cuisine.

“Isaan is a wonderful region that exudes rural charm and authentic Thai culture. For foodies and fans of Thai cuisine, Isaan is a treasure trove of aromatic ingredients, fresh flavours and traditional cooking techniques, which have given rise to many world-famous dishes,” said Trevor MacKenzie, Mango Tree’s global managing director.

“This makes Isaan the perfect destination for our chefs to learn about the history and art of Thai cuisine. The five-day tour introduced our global team to many of the region’s culinary highlights, while also showing them how to create Isaan’s most popular dishes in the traditional style. I am confident that this initiative will help to improve the authenticity of the Isaan food produced at our global network of restaurants, thus raising the bar for international Thai gastronomy,” he added.

The trip included visits to Nakhon Ratchasima and Khon Kaen, traditional villages, farms and heritage sites including Phimai Historical Park. Throughout the journey, chefs were introduced to the Northeast’s gastronomic culture through cooking workshops, farm tours and restaurant visits.

The chefs visited the Mango House Farm, where they learned how to create som tum mamuang (spicy mango salad) and nam pla wan (sweet fish sauce dipping eaten with unripe mangoes), the Som Tum Pan Laan restaurant to learn about the different varieties of som tum and other Isaan favourites such as pad mee Korat, a local noodle dish, and MeKin de Farmily, where they learned about rice production and picked their own herbs and vegetables. Here, they learnt the art of rice planting and about the indigenous herbs and spices that are grown in the region and that are essential for Isaan food, as well as the entire process, from the planting to the cooking, with guidance from local farm owners.

The trip came to an end with a demonstration by the chefs of what they are learned during the trip.

“eMperience” for cardless shopping

event August 20, 2018 16:19

By The Nation

Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) and The Mall Group recently joined up to launch the new SCB M campaign with a star-studded party that introduced a innovative cardless shopping experience to Thailand’s retail scene.

Designed around a “Call it eMperience” concept, the Runway Evolution show led by actress Davika “Mai” Hoorne and some 200 celebrities, broadened the audience’s world of innovation with a timeline of futuristic innovations from numerous periods.

The campaign offers shoppers privileges for their spending both within The Mall Group’s stores and outside in forms of reward points and special discounts, plus on-top conveniences from tech-infused services such as I-Reserved Parking and personalised customer care via TMG Line Business Connect and chatbot.

The SCB M Cards come in three types: SCB M Visa credit cards, which can be divided into SCB M Legend Visa Infinite, SCB M Luxe Visa Signature and SCB M Live Visa Platinum, SCB M Debit Card and SCB M Visa Prepaid Card.

“The new partnership between SCB and The Mall Group is a sequel to our earlier collaboration late last year to co-create “The First Cashless Retail Experience” via QR payment in response to digital lifestyle of modern-day consumers and to lead the way towards Retail 4.0,” said Arthid Nanthawithaya, president and chief executive officer of Siam Commercial Bank.

“We have created a new synergy to transform shopping into a seamless experience in which the online and offline worlds are interconnected by digital technology. Based on the ‘First Evolution of Experiential Shopping’, it addresses all lifestyle needs and preferences of the customers, introducing them to what we call ‘eMperience’, an experience tipped to become a model for Thailand’s retail industry.”

Lifestyle needs will be completely met by a variety of co-branded credit cards, debit card and prepaid card along with payment technologies and channels across Electronic Signing, Online Shopping Platform and Payment Gateway.

Shoppers can enjoy spending for longer thanks to introduction of chatbot that responds to queries and suggests personalised promotions to each customer in real time to ensure the most memorable shopping experience.

“The Mall Group is set to transform retail through our partnership with SCB. We are creating a big evolution in financial solutions by merging digital banking with lifestyle shopping,” said Supaluck Umpujh, chairwoman of The Mall Group.

SCB M customers can earn a maximum of 4,000 reward points upon reaching four payment transactions with no minimum amount for each, reward points for every Bt25 spent, extra points for Bt1 million spending swappable for mileage points for redemption of flights to Europe for two, and to reserve a parking space in the shopping malls via I-Reserved Parking.
