Central Department Store has experts at its Central Lingerie Fair continuing through July 16, sharing tips on avoiding health problems that stem from ill-fitted garments.

Top brands Sabina, Wacoal, BSC, Elle, Guy Laroche, Triumph, Morgan and Calvin Klein are selling merchandise at discounted prices.

Purchases come with a chance to win a free beauty services such as a waxing by Strip – Ministry of Waxing.

Satit Srimontayamas, a doctor from Samitivej Hospital in Thonburi, is offering women health tips and has arranged free check-ups in the Event Hall at Central Chidlom.

“Wearing ill-fitted underwear can lead to health problems,” Dr Satit says, explaining that there are five common problems.

Muscle pain can in the shoulders, neck and back can result from wearing a tight bra, and possibly even headaches. A bra that’s too tight can also cause irritation and inflammation, symptoms that might also appear due to chemicals in detergents and fabric softeners used on bras and panties.

Fungal infection is common in the rainy season, and there’s a risk of breast cancer in wearing a bra that’s too tight. Tight or too-loose undergarments can affect posture and breathing.

“Pick underwear that fits you and make sure the bra straps aren’t too tight or too loose,” Satit says. “Always keep your underwear clean and dry to prevent infection caused by humidity. If you’re over 40, get your breasts checked for cancer every year to minimise risk.”

The much-loved Thai style sweet-and-sour dried plum by Waydhanar, sold under the premium snack brand MagMag, recently celebrated its tenth anniversary with a special event that unveiled some simple dishes made with the fruit and introduced a new logo designed by ML Chiratorn “Kru Toh” Chirapravati.

Among those joining the event were Somnuek “Kru Parn” Klangnok, artist and owner of Chubby Papaya and two celebrity chefs Ayusakorn “Van” Arayangkoon of 4 Garcons and Talaychan “Ten” Bunyaraksh from Talaychan Patisserie.

“We have produced and distributed premium snacks under the brand MagMag for the last 10 years and our products today include Wakening Plum (Buay Khuen Cheep), Violet Plum (Look Nai Ar-ngun), Lovely Sweety Prune (Prune Mai Ja), Bangkok Kiss Mango (Ma Muang Hom Jak Bangkok), and Organic and Sugar-free Thai Banana (Gluay Nue Nim). Our products are made with love and care, and the design is fun and accessible. We highlight Thai characters and the excellent flavour. Our snacks make great gifts that come from the heart, and our best-selling item is Wakening Plum,” said managing director Nonthakogh Panyapadhm.

“As we celebrate our anniversary, we have invited an artist and two celebrity chefs to create new simple dishes using MagMag products. And we are thrilled to introduce the new MagMag logo, designed by Thailand’s top illustrator Kru Toh,” he added..”

Kru Toh said he had used a rendered image of a happy boy to reflect the brand’s young character, with a crown on his head to show that only the top ingredients go into the products. “The orange colour makes the products look delicious and lively,” he explained.

Next was a cooking demonstration using the Wakening Plum, Violet Plum and Bangkok Kiss Mango. Kru Parn presented three tasty creations “Buay Khuen Cheep & Papaya salad”, “Pork Wonton with Ma Muang Hom Jak Bangkok sauce”, and “Meat Ball with Look Nai Ar-ngun sauce”.

The artist said her som tum was not as complicated as regular papaya salad. “You just add chilli and garlic and pound them lightly. Then, put in the beansprouts and d tomatoes, sliced Wakening Plum and Bangkok Kiss Mango, followed by dried shrimp and roasted peanuts. Mix everything together and you get a tasty and colourful som tam that is sweet, tangy, salty and rich.”

Chef Van” created “Back to Life by Buay Khuen Cheep Tonic”, “Resurrection Salad” and “Nutty Crunchy Cheesy Mango”. He said, “Nutty Crunchy Cheesy Mango is made with diced Bangkok Kiss Mango mixed with cream cheese and peanuts. Add some honey and orange peel. Then, mix everything together and chill it in the fridge for a few hours. Next, roll the mixture into balls and roll them in ground peanuts to add crunchiness. Serve with honey and fruits like grape or mango.”

Chef Ten meanwhile presented French desserts “Crumble Jumble Mango”, “La La Land” jelly verrines made from Wakening Plum, and “Summer 1,000 Leaves Mille Feuille”, which has a crunchy texture and a sweet, creamy flavour.

“This Mille Feuille uses Violet Plum (Look Nai Ar-ngun) as an ingredient, and the cream is a little lighter. At the centre is rich plum cream with orange and pomelo. It has a well-rounded flavour and nice, contrasting textures.”

The dried fruit are available at Tops Market, Tops Online, Villa Market, Family Mart and selected AsiaBooks stores.

New York comes to the very heart of Bangkok at the annual St Regis charity gala

The Big Apple was at the very core of one of most prestigious social events of the year, the St Regis Bangkok Charity Gala 2018 – which this year raised a massive Bt7 million for the Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Foundation for the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University.

The ball, which this year was on the theme “Manhattan Flair”, has been held annually since 2013 and has so far raised more than Bt40 million for the various charities selected by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

Guests were transported back in time, to New York City of the 1940s and 1950s era, with the Astor Ballroom transformed into a scene with pure Manhattan flair.

Immersed in the theme, the entire evening was presented in theatrical proportions, with a talented jazz trio setting the mood. Daran Zeththinich Chanavarasutthisiri, from “The Face Season 3”, performed an exciting New York Cabaret and guests were blown away by the acclaimed musical genius of Neung Jakkawal, appearing with his big band and accompanied by singers Viyada and Kittinan.

There was a spectacular Broadway rendition of “New York New York (It’s a wonderful town)”, while the grand finale featured the live sounds of renowned Australian singer-songwriter Mahalia Barnes.

This year’s gourmet delights were some of the St Regis’ finest with Mark Arnao, executive chef of the St Regis New York flying in to man the kitchen for this special event.

Richard Sawyer, the hotel’s director of culinary operations, also led his team, among them chef Lak Preeprem, and pastry chef Thitiphong Suanborae in a selection of dishes that didn’t fail to impress. The evening’s nostalgic cocktails were conjured up by the hotel’s expert mixologist Alessandro Stringardi.

With the auction lots receiving generous bids from guests and the tables sold out, the proceeds raised will go to support the operations of the Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University, Princess Sirindhorn’s alma mater. These include funding visiting local and international experts as keynote speakers and special lecturers in subjects most beneficial to the students and supporting the research of faculty professors.

The Princess graduated with both bachelor and master’s degrees from Chulalongkorn’s Faculty of Arts, with a focus on history, Thai and other Oriental languages.
