Buri Ram is getting ready to host its yearly marathon extravaganza on January 22, 2022.

The date was announced on Thursday by Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, veteran politician Newin Chidchob and provincial governor Thatchakorn Hatthathayakul.

The minister said this event is popular among both Thai and foreign runners, and the last marathon held early this year generated 359 million baht in revenue.

The “Buriram Marathon 2022” will kick off at Chang International Circuit, with runners heading for the finishing line at Chang Arena. On the way, the runners will get to experience nature and get a glimpse of local lifestyles. They will also be running past the Huai Chorakhae Mak and Huay Talad reservoirs and landmarks like the King Rama 1 monument. Fans are also expected to be cheering the runners along the route.

The event includes four races, namely the 42.195km marathon, the 21.1km half marathon, the 10km mini-marathon and the 4.554km fun run.

The yearly event is a brainchild of Newin, who launched the first Buri Ram marathon in 2017.

The Culture Ministry included Muay Thai in the National Artist category on Wednesday, thanks to promotion of the sport by Parliament’s Sports Commission.

Amateur Muay Thai Association of Thailand president Sakchai Thapsuwan said Muay Thai was a typical Thai martial art and the sport’s competitors who excel should also have the opportunity to be listed in the National Artist category.

He said the move would help motivate Muay Thai fighters as they can now be honoured as national artists, which could make “them and their families famous”.

“We would like to thank Parliament’s Sports Commission for the promotion,” he said.

He also expected Muay Thai fighters who are honoured as national artists to be good role models for younger generations in the future.

Saemapetch Fairtex Targeting Nong-O Rematch After Conquest of Rival Rittewada #SootinClaimon.Com

It’s never lonely at the top. #1-ranked bantamweight Muay Thai contender and former ONE world title challenger Saemapetch Fairtex has no shortage of top competitors looking to steal his spot in the rankings, and his latest opponent may be the most dangerous yet.

Saemapetch faces ONE Championship debutant Rittewada Petchyindee Academy in the main event of the ONE: NextGen II, a previously recorded event from the Singapore Indoor Stadium scheduled for broadcast via tape delay this Friday, 12 November.

The 27-year-old Pattaya native has a message for Rittewada ahead of their blockbuster showdown.

“I don’t want anyone to snatch [my ranking] away from me. I’ll try my best to keep it. Rittewada, you want my ranking, don’t you? You want to be number one? I won’t let you have it. There is no way I will let go of it,” Saemapetch told ONE Championship in a recent interview.

Rittewada isn’t just any opponent. He’s one of the most highly regarded new signings for ONE Super Series who is expected to give Saemapetch a run for his money. The Fairtex gym representative knows that, and realizes Rittewada’s strong points.

As such, he’s prepared very well for his upcoming foe.

“Rittewada has all the powerful weapons. I have to be careful because his boxing skills are not bad at all, and he has been winning continuously, mostly by knockout,” Saemapetch said.

“He has been winning with knockouts but, for me, he’s not scary. I’m not worried about this guy. He is not that different from other boxers who are strong and powerful and have similar weapons.”

A man focused is a dangerous one, and there’s only one thing on Saemapetch’s mind. Although he’s certainly not looking past the threats Rittewada poses, the end goal is to eventually earn another crack at reigning ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Champion Nong-O Gaiyanghadao, whom he lost to via spectacular knockout in November 2019.

Rittewada may also be a capable knockout puncher, but Saemapetch knows what to do against him. Saemapetch warns Rittewada not to underestimate him, because he too is coming to end matters quickly and decisively.

“A way to avoid [being knocked out] is once he strikes with his weapons, I need to set up stable and firm blocks and try to strike back as quickly as I can. That’s a great way to avoid [his strikes] and gain victory,” Saemapetch said.

“In my last match [against Kulabdam], you could see how I had improved in terms of speed and power. I was able to knock him out. In this upcoming fight, I’ll try my best to do that again. Because if I win, I will be able to have a rematch with Nong-O. I want to have the chance to win the World Championship again.”

ONE: NextGen II also features a featherweight mixed martial arts showdown between proven finishers Tang Kai of China and Yoon Chang Min of South Korea.

Stamp Fairtex Rises to No. 2 in ONE Atomweight Rankings, Overtakes Ham Seo Hee #SootinClaimon.Com

ONE Championship released an update to their official athlete rankings on Friday, 5 November, and there were some significant movers, particularly in the atomweight mixed martial arts standings.

Thailand’s Stamp Fairtex, previously the #3-ranked atomweight contender moved up a notch, rising to the #2 spot, just behind her close personal friend and the division’s top contender in the Philippines’ Denice “Lycan Queen” Zamboanga.

The former ONE Atomweight Muay Thai and Kickboxing World Champion, Stamp recently defeated rival Alyona Rassohyna in the quarterfinal round of the prestigious ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix last September. She then took care of business against Grand Prix alternate Julie Mezabarba in the semifinal round of the tournament to advance.

The two victories were enough for Stamp to overtake South Korean veteran Ham Seo Hee in the atomweight ladder.

Stamp now moves on to face Indian wrestling phenom Ritu Phogat in the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix Championship Final, slated for 3 December at ONE: Winter Warriors. The winner of that bout will earn the right to challenge division queen Angela Lee for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title early next year.

Speaking of the aforementioned Phogat, “The Indian Tigress” is a non-mover in the official rankings at atomweight, despite having defeated both highly regarded Meng Bo of China and Grand Prix alternate Jenelyn Olsim of the Philippines.

Including her victory over rising Chinese star Lin Heqin earlier this year, Phogat is already riding a three-bout winning streak and is gaining incredible momentum heading into her match with Stamp.

At this point, fans and experts are divided between Stamp and Phogat. Both athletes have their own strengths and weaknesses, and it will be interesting to witness who comes out and wins the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix.

Promising Chanettee Wins Breakthrough Title at 2nd SAT-TWT Open #SootinClaimon.Com

#SootinClaimon.Com : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation.

The up-and-coming Chanettee Wannasaen kept her cool under a highly humid condition to celebrate her maiden title in the Bt2.5 million “SAT-TWT Open” Road to World Ranking at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Chonburi on Friday.

The 17-year-old from Chiang Mai produced a solid final round 68 without a bogey to win on 11 under-par-205, beating the previous circuit champion Arpichaya Yubol by a stroke at the par 72 6,328 yard landscape.

After making an easy championship putt, the teenager felt relieved to finally win a title after settling at second four times including a loss to the in-form Arpichaya in the last TWT Tour in Cham Am two months ago.

“I’m speechless. I finally made it after coming so close many times,” said Chanettee who received her biggest cheque of Bt367,500 as the victor. “Normally I didn’t play well at the back nine but today I was handling the situation well. I really remained patient out there and tried not to lose my concentration.”

Arpichaya, who has won back-to-back titles on the Thai LPGA Tour coming to Pattaya, was chasing closely after Channettee all afternoon, trailing just a shot behind at 10-11 under after 14 holes. All of a sudden, the 18-year-old from Saraburi committed a double bogey after making a poor approach shot on the 15th. And even though she recovered to fire two straight birdies on the 16th and 17th, it was not enough to catch up the younger opponent.

“I was concerned that I would lose my nerve like I did in the last circuit. I was leading in the final round and hit one bad shot that gave Arpichaya the title. This time around, I was handling the situation better. Anyway, I had to give credit to Arpichaya for her fighting spirit after that double bogey,” the teenager paid compliments for her opponent.

Arpichaya failed a chance to make a hat-trick win after claiming back-to-back victories in Nakhon Nayok last month. She signed off with a 69 on 10 under-par- 206.

“I was trying to hit a birdie in the last hole but I didn’t make it. She played a good short game today and gave me no opportunity. But I’m happy that I hit 10 under at this course for the first time,” said Arpichaya who had to settle for the Bt223,440 prize money as the runner-up.

Trichat Cheenglab, 24 from Bangkok, fired a final 66 for a total eight under-par-208 to land at tied third alongside co-overnight leader Parinda Phokan who signed off with a 71.

Parinda, Arpichaya and Chanettee join three-way lead in Pattaya #SootinClaimon.Com

First circuit champion Parinda Phokan fired a round low 67 to share the lead with the in-form Arpichaya Yubol and talented teenager Chanettee Wannasaen after round two of the Bt2.5 million “SAT-TWT Open” Road to World Ranking at the Phoenix Gold Golf and Country Club in Chonburi on Thursday.

Parinda, who beat Arpichaya and 18-year-old Chanettee by two strokes in the previous TWT event at the  Lake View Resort and Golf Club in Petchaburi in September, decorated her scorecard with six birdies against a lone bogey on the 14th hole, for the day’s best score and will  head into the Friday’s final round on seven under-par 137.

“I didn’t hit my driver and my approach shots well, but I did pretty well in my chip shots and putt to get  out of trouble several times,” said the 24-year-old Parinda from Khon Kaen who eyes on a back-to-back title on the TWT Tour.

“I hope to be in good control and not to let myself get under pressure. I will try to give my all tomorrow,” added Parinda who will have a busy Friday as after the tournament  she needs to catch a flight to Korea for the KLPGA Tour Q-School.

After committing two bogeys in the first three holes, Arpichaya rebounded quickly to shoot five birdies for a second round 69 to join the lead.

“I got off to a slow start, not hitting my driver and iron well. I was in tense a bit playing in the leading group. It took me awhile to get my momentum back,” said the 18-year-old from Saraburi, winner of three titles (two local tours and one Thailand Mixed event) this season.

“I hope to go out there and have some fun in the final. I didn’t want to force myself too hard and get myself under pressure like the way I started my round today,” added Arpichaya.

Chanettee, another promising teenager, was leading at nine under before two successive bogeys on the 17th and 18th holes saw her finish with a 70 and a total 137. After settling at second in four tournaments ( including the first TWT) in 2021, the Chiang-Mai born hopes to turn things around on this time.

“I hope to put myself in good positions on the greens in order to shoot scores. I need to be more consistent. Hopefully I will be able to win something,” she said.

A stroke behind at lone fourth was Kusuma Meechai after hitting a 69 for a two-round total of 138, a shot ahead of overnight leader Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong who hit a 73.

The cutoff for the final was at nine over-par-153 with a total of 70 players – 60 pros and 10 amateurs moving forward. For live coverage of the final, please log into the THAIWPGA Facebook Page from 9am onwards.
