Arsenal signs Japan international Tomiyasu

Takehiro Tomiyasu, who is gearing up for Japans World Cup qualifiers against Oman and China, has joined Arsenal from Bologna.

Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu has joined Arsenal from Serie A side Bologna on a long-term contract, the English Premier League club announced on Tuesday.

Tomiyasu, 22, first came to Europe in 2018 with an 18-month spell at Belgian club Sint-Truiden. The defender then moved to Bologna in July 2019, making 63 appearances in his two seasons with the Italian side.

Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta described Tomiyasu as “a versatile defender with great defensive qualities, high technical ability and composure on the ball.”

“He will be an important member of our squad. We look forward to Takehiro joining up with us when he returns from international duty,” said the Spaniard.

Tomiyasu has represented Japan at all levels from under-16s through to the senior side. He is part of Japan’s squad to play two matches in the final round of FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers in September.

Stamp Fairtex on Alyona Rassohyna Rematch: I’ll try to knock her out fast #SootinClaimon.Com

Stamp Fairtex on Alyona Rassohyna Rematch: I’ll try to knock her out fast

Former two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex is a woman on a mission. The 23-year-old Pattaya, Thailand native has long aspired to win her third ONE World Title in as many sports, by capturing a belt in mixed martial arts competition.

This Friday night, Stamp can move one step closer to achieving that lofty goal.

Stamp, who is ranked #4 at atomweight, is one of eight women who are set to participate in the highly anticipated ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix. She faces Ukrainian rival, #3-ranked atomweight contender Alyona Rassohyna in the quarterfinal round at ONE: EMPOWER on September 3, live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Stamp and Rassohyna battled to a controversial finish last February, with the latter forcing a late-game submission victory, albeit controversially. Stamp appeared to have tapped to a guillotine choke with less than 10 seconds remaining in the third round.

The Thai warrior immediately protested the stoppage as soon as she broke free from the hold. Despite the loss, Stamp acknowledges just how difficult of a challenge Rassohyna poses to her ambitions.

“It will be a tougher fight for me this time around, for sure. I know her now, and she knows me. She’ll make some adjustments and so will I. However, I think her cardio isn’t too good, so I’ll try to knock her out as fast as I can,” said Stamp.

“I know what I can do in the Circle, and I’m planning to go back to my strengths, which is going back to my striking rather than my ground game. She’s a great grappler. I’ve improved a lot with my takedown and submission defense, because we don’t know how this fight will go.”

Related Stories

Stamp has done quite well so far in her time in the Circle. The former atomweight kickboxing and Muay Thai queen has five wins so far in MMA, with only one defeat. Four of those five victories have ended inside the distance.

Against Rassohyna, Stamp admits she needs to be cautious of her opponent’s high level ground game so as not to make the same mistake in the first fight. Instead, Stamp plans to return to her roots and use her strengths to her advantage.

“The armbar is still her biggest threat, but I believe she’s coming into this fight more improved all around. I can’t underestimate her,” Stamp said.

“There’s no doubt the ground game will be the most difficult aspect of this fight. But I’ll focus on striking because this is my strength, especially my elbow and knee strikes. Whether I win this fight by decision or by knockout, I have to win. I’m determined to.”

ONE: EMPOWER is ONE Championship’s historic, all-female fight card featuring only women — the first for a major global martial arts organization.

In the main event, reigning ONE Women’s Strawweight World Champion “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan defends her World Title against #2-ranked strawweight contender, Michelle Nicolini.

Stamp Fairtex on Potentially Facing Angela Lee: A Dream Come True

Former two-sport ONE World Champion Stamp Fairtex of Thailand says she is completely focused on her upcoming bout at ONE: EMPOWER against rival Alyona Rassohyna. However, the 23-year-old from Pattaya cant help but imagine the possibilities of potentially facing her idol, reigning ONE Womens Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee down the line.

Stamp and Rassohyna face each other in the quarterfinal round of the highly anticipated ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix, which commences this Friday night, September 3 at the aforementioned EMPOWER event, live from the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The winner of the tournament earns the right to challenge Lee for the ONE World Title, which CEO Chatri Sityodtong says could happen as early as November.

“I’ve been extremely focused on my MMA game, especially this year. I can say I’m ready to fight anyone, including Angela [Lee]. I’ve been training non-stop,” Stamp said.

“It will be a dream if I win this tournament and face Angela for the belt. She’s my idol and if we fight, I do not care if I win or lose. I just want the chance.”

But before she can even think of a shot at the belt, Stamp has to make it to the next round of the tournament, and to do that, she has to get past the rematch with Rassohyna.

Stamp battled Rassohyna to a controversial submission loss back in February. After dominating the majority of the fight, the Ukrainian caught the Thai fighter in a deep guillotine, forcing a questionable tap.

The referee stopped the contest, and declared Rassohyna the victor. However, Stamp immediately protested the stoppage, claiming that no ‘tap’ took place.

Stamp has since come to terms with the tumultuous result, and is now focused on getting the win back in the rematch.

“Some people say I tapped, and some say I didn’t. I’d like to thank all of my fans who understand and continue to support me,” Stamp said.

“I still insist I didn’t tap, but the angle that the referee saw was a tap, so I respect his decision. I’ve accepted that I did make a mistake and I’ve moved on. However, I need to be careful in this rematch. It is an opportunity to correct what I did wrong in the last fight.”

The ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix brings together eight of the best atomweight fighters in the world, all competing to become the #1-contender for the ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title.

Stamp enters the tournament as the highly impressive former ONE Atomweight Kickboxing and Muay Thai World Champion. Her transition to mixed martial arts competition has been equally as impressive. Stamp made her MMA debut in 2018, and has since gone 5-1 with four finishes.

“It’s such an honor for me to be selected to participate among the top eight female martial artists in this tournament. I’m happy to be able to represent Thailand. This is something that I’m very proud of,” Stamp said.

“I’ve been focused on both Muay Thai and MMA training. My only objective is to win this fight. On top of that, physically and mentally, I’m a hundred percent ready. I’m just focusing on coming into this fight in amazing shape, and I’m ready to go.”
