If you would like to catch a magnificent sea of morning mist or grab a “magical sleep under the sparkling stars”, head off to Phitsanulok’s Khwae Noi National Park and Khwae Noi Banrung Daen Dam in Wat Bot district.

The head of Khwae Noi National Park told the reporters on Wednesday that Phitsanulok’s mountaintops have begun to get colder, with the average morning temperature being 18 degrees Celsius amid the abundant nature.

The park has set up a view point for tourists to camp overnight under the stars and wake up in the morning to the breathtaking sea of mist over Khwae Noi Banrung Daen Dam. Tourists can also visit the beautiful Santakhian Waterfall at the entrance of the national park, which currently has a “perfect water level” that’s fit to be captured.

Khwae Noi National Park is open for overnight stays under Covid-19 prevention measures.

Visitors are required to provide a document proving at least one shot of vaccination 14 days prior to visiting. Those unvaccinated will need to provide a negative RT-PCR or antigen test result not more than 72 hours before entering the park. Meanwhile, those who have recovered from Covid-19 will need to have completed 28 days of isolation and not more than three months, and provide a medical treatment document.

The national park, located 70 kilometres from Phitsanulok city, features a camping site and accommodation for those who wish to soak up the fresh air and surrounding nature.

Tourists who flocked to Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai were treated to a beautiful white frost that blanketed the mountaintop on Monday morning.

The national park was covered in frost for two days as the temperature dropped to 4 degrees Celsius on Monday, colder than 6 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The Thailand Meteorological Department said on Monday that cool weather and fog in the morning with isolated light rains are forecast in the North. The temperature on hilltops is likely to drop to 9-16 degrees Celsius, the department added.

Lopburi Inn served up a feast of fruits and Thai sweets for monkeys on Sunday in a bid to get them ready for the Monkey Buffet Festival scheduled for November 28.

The hotel even put up banners “inviting” monkeys to attend the upcoming food carnival.

Yongyuth Kijwattananusorn, the hotel’s president, said thousands of monkeys living near the Phra Prang Sam Yot temple and San Phra Kan shrine showed up to enjoy the spread, especially durian which appeared to be their favourite.

“This year’s festival will see more than 100 tables piled high with delicacies for the monkeys, which will be topped up every two hours from 10am to 4pm,” he said. “We will also donate 100 wheelchairs for people with disabilities during the festival.”

Thailand took the fifth place in CEOWorld Magazine’s 2021 list of the World’s Best Countries for Cultural Heritage Influence.

The top spot was taken by Italy, while Greece and Spain came in second and third, respectively. India came in fourth, while Portugal ranked sixth and Japan seventh.

The last three countries that made the cut for top 10 are the United Kingdom, China and Germany, respectively.

The magazine said its researchers analysed and compared 165 countries across nine attributes: architecture, artistic legacy, fashion, food, music, literature, history, cultural attractions and culturally accessibility.

In the description for Thailand, the magazine wrote: “Although the nation is home to stunning beaches, fascinating culture and crazy nightlife, the heritage of the landmass is also an exception in terms of beauty.

“There are myriad places across the country that possess the rich earthiness of village life, influences of local traditions, and remnants of a splendid culture. From Sukhothai, Ayutthaya to Ban Chiang [Udon Thani], visitors flock to these places to appreciate the ancient history of the Thai culture.”

In its latest update on Friday, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said that tourists arriving under the Test & Go scheme must have a fully-paid one-night stay at an SHA Extra Plus (SHA++) hotel.

SHA Extra Plus (SHA++) hotels are those that meet the Amazing Thailand SHA Plus standards and have partnered up with certified hospitals for the RT-PCR test. The list of hotels is available at https://web.thailandsha.com/shaextraplus.

TAT also said it takes up to seven working days for a Thailand Pass to be issued. As for test results, TAT said the normal waiting period should be 24 hours, though it may vary depending on the laboratory’s working hours.

Revenue from tourism in 2022 is expected to reach 1.5 trillion baht after the Cabinet meeting earlier this week has approved the proposal to make 2022 the year of promoting Thailand’s tourism, said Tourism and Sports minister Pipat Ratchakitprakan on Thursday.

The ministry has also proposed the campaign “Visit Thailand Year 2022 : Amazing New Chapters”, to be spearheaded by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), to attract more foreign visitors to the country.

“The campaign aims to distribute tourism revenues to all five regions, with central locations in Phuket, Pattaya, Nakhon Ratchasima, Chiang Mai and Ayutthaya,” said Pipat. “We will use Thai traditional performances by local artists along with performances by famous guests from overseas to attract visitors. The campaign will be sponsored by both the government and private sector.”

Pipat also added that the meeting of Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) on November 12 had approved the setting up of Centre for Emergency Situation Related to Tourism and Sports. “This new centre will be a central agency that provide solutions to domestic and foreign tourists in Thailand who run into problems or need assistance,” he added. “It will be headed by the permanent secretary for tourism and sports.”

TAT Governor Yuthasak Supasorn added that since the government has allowed vaccinated foreign visitors to land in Thailand from November 1, the number of foreign tourists has been rising continually. “Emirates airline recently switched the airplane flying between Dubai and Bangkok from Boeing 777, which has a capacity of 200 passengers to Airbus A380, which can carry 500 passengers,” he said. “This shows that the demand to enter Thailand by foreigners is now climbing.”

“TAT set the revenue target from tourism in 2022 at 1.5 trillion baht, or about 50 per cent of tourism revenue in 2019, before the Covid-19 situation,” he added. “In 2023, we set the target at 80 per cent of 2019 revenue, or 2.4 trillion baht.”

Maya Bay, made famous by the Hollywood blockbuster “The Beach”, will be reopened to tourists from New Years Day. The beach on Krabis Ko Phi Phi Leh island has been closed since June 2018.

Maya Bay in Krabi’s Hat Noppharat Thara-Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park is expected to reopen to tourists on January 1 2022 after it has been closed since June 2018.

It was closed because it was determined the area’s coral and other marine life needed time to recover from the damage caused by tourists. Terrestrial and marine ecosystem recovery has been seen at Maya Bay due to its closure.

Environmental authorities said the famous tourist spot would only reopen to visitors after an upgrade to facilities was carried out and an adequate system was put in place to manage tourists.

On Sunday, Warawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, and the permanent secretary Jatuporn Buruspha were given an update on the infrastructure improvements being made at Phi Phi Leh for the reopening of Maya Bay.

The improvements include a new jetty at Loh Samah Bay on the opposite side of the island. Experts had advised that if the recovery of coral reefs in the area was to continue, the only access to Maya Bay must be via this new jetty.

Chiang Rai province is getting ready to welcome double-jabbed tourists from December 1 under the “Blooming Chiang Rai” campaign, provincial governor Phassakorn Boonyaluck told the press on Monday.

“Tourism in Chiang Rai has been in a slump for almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but we will be ready to welcome tourists again,” he said. “So far, 58.9 per cent of Chiang Rai residents have been fully vaccinated and we believe that by December 1, the number will rise to 70 per cent.”

Phassakorn added that the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) has marked 11 of Chiang Rai’s 18 districts as “blue zone”, or an area ready to pilot the reopening to foreigners who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and test negative upon arrival.

“The ‘Blooming Chiang Rai’ theme aims to promote the province’s Art and Flower Festival, which will be held from December 18 to January 1 at the Garden of Reeds in Rim Kok subdistrict,” he said.

“Chiang Rai will also hold a flower festival at the 75th Anniversary Flag and Lamp Park in Wiang subdistrict from December 24 to January 9.”

If the reopening plan is successful and the Covid-19 situation improves, Chiang Rai may consider bringing back other cultural events that were suspended, such as the flower offering festival and midnight walk for alms tradition to lure more tourists.

Wisoot Buachoom, director of Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT)’s Chiang Rai office, said the province’s economy relies almost totally on tourism.

“Before Covid-19, Chiang Rai welcomed around 4 million visitors annually, who helped generate around 40 billion baht in revenue,” he said. “In 2020, the number of visitors dropped to just 2 million and tourism revenue slumped to just 15 billion baht. This trend can be seen in many tourism provinces in Thailand.

“However, the situation is gradually improving, with up to 33 flights landing in Chiang Rai daily, compared to just 10 flights a day earlier in the year,” he said.

“Some 250 hotels have been certified under TAT’s Amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration [SHA] standard, while businesses winning the SHA+ label, which requires more than 70 per cent of staff to be vaccinated, has been on the rise.”
