TRAVEL

Astrid Solo Travel Advisor (www.AstridTravel.com) has launched its new website for solo travellers looking for affordable luxury ideas worldwide, to cash in on the growing trend. It based the decision on Visa finding that one in five are now travelling solo.

The company is convinced that solo travel represented nearly one third of all travel in 2015. Research from TripAdvisor also showed that 62 per cent of travellers feel solo travel helped them become more independent and self-reliant. This trend is on the rise with those that travel solo having taken an average of 10.9 trips alone, and 58 per cent of the women in that group planning more than one solo trip in the same year.

“I’ve been traveling with family, friends and solo for more than 40 years both domestically and abroad,” said Astrid R. Clements, chief executive officer and founder of Astrid Solo Travel Advisor. “Traveling solo is truly a transformative experience, and I want to bring that understanding to my readers. Being a senior hasn’t slowed down my thirst for new experiences. My unique approach to travel, with a tech-savvy edge, will show solo travellers new ways to explore other cultures with character and class, or how to just get away for a memorable weekend trip.”

Clements will embark on a trip to seven countries – Portugal, Morocco, Egypt, UAE, India, Thailand and Vietnam – to kick off this venture. She will travel 22,000 miles and operate on an affordable luxury budget. The base cost of the trip is US$25,000, with another $3,000 for shopping and general miscellaneous expenses. She will be flying business class internationally and staying in five star rated luxury hotels with this $560 per day budget. Also included is a luxury cruise down the Nile River with Uniworld.

The new site features tales from past and current trips, videos tips and planning resources, to help solo travellers feel confident, safe, inspired, and engaged.

The site follows the travels of its writers who visit solo-friendly hotels with top notch concierges, shop at one-of-a-kind boutiques or flea markets, eat at hot new restaurants or take specialty tours of landmarks and gorgeous local gardens. Astrid Solo Travel Advisor also leverages technology to get around efficiently and recommends the best in location, menu, and safety apps along with gadgets that take the worry out of traveling solo

Suwat Thongrompo Chief executive officer poses in front of 47th SFX Cinema complex at 4th floor of the Crystal Veranda on EkkamaiRamindra Rd. SFX Cinema will be officially open today.

SF Corporation plans to explore the cinema business in CLMV countries in the next two years.

The company will also spend Bt600 million in Thailand this year to open five new cinemas in The Crystal Ekkamai-Ramindra, Big C Bang Phli, CentralPlaza Nakhon Si Thammarat, Terminal 21 Nakhon Ratchasima and Robinson Lifestyle Centre Lop Buri.

Chief executive officer Suwat Thongrompo said yesterday the company has identified great “blue ocean” opportunities for the cinema and other entertainment businesses in the rapidly emerging economies of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam, which are known as the CLMV countries.

The economies require significant players and time to be developed, Suwat said.

“Our key success criteria and concerns are to acquire the right prime locations and find the right partners, particularly in the CLMV countries.

“Our cineplexes will range widely in size from three to four screens up to eight to 10 screens depending on the location. Average investment per screen will be Bt15 million,” he said.

“We have been proposed [to] by potential investors in all CLMV countries to open theatres in their own market,” he said.

Sivit Thongrompo, chief operating officer, said some negotiations with potential partners were more than 50 per cent finalised.

Cambodia, Myanmar and Vietnam would be the priorities, he said, adding that Laos’s cinema market will take time to be developed and ready for foreign investors.

“Regarding the different regulations applied in those markets, we can better utilise space for our cinemas. That means we can open more screens at certain locations with the same space as Thailand,” Sivit said.

In Thailand, SF runs theatres at 47 locations in Bangkok and 22 in the provinces with 316 screens and 70,000 seats. The 47th cineplex opens today at The Crystal Ekkamai-Ramindra with eight screens and 1,450 seats. It cost Bt200 million to open, which the company plans to recoup within five to seven years based on projections it will cater to about 600,000 moviegoers per year.

SF Corporation earned Bt300 million on Bt4 billion in revenue last year. Revenue was up 10 per cent over 2014.

This year, its aims to achieve Bt5 billion in total revenue and Bt380 million in profit, a 20-per-cent increase from last year.

About 65 per cent of revenue will come from ticket sales and the rest from concessions and other sources.

“We expect to see a strong line-up of Hollywood blockbusters this year, especially superhero and franchised films,” he said.

The firm is preparing to list on the local stock exchange to raise funds for future expansion and build an international image, but is waiting for market and investor sentiment to improve.

Under new name, Grab ride-hailing service

ศาสตร์เกษตรดินปุ๋ย : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Under-new-name-Grab-ride-hailing-service-30277992.html

BUSINESS PLAN

Amid intense competition in the Bt25-billion ride-hailing-application service in Southeast Asia, including Thailand, GrabTaxi, which has been renamed “Grab”, continues to invest to enhance its personalised service and customer experience in helping to grab more targeted passengers as well as corporate clients from its rivals.

Anthony Tan, chief executive officer and co-founder of the leading ride-hailing platform, said yesterday that its navigation system had been gradually developed to make it easier for customers, while passengers are able to pay by credit cards as well as cash.

Driven by data analytics, the Malaysia-based tech start-up firm has spent US$100 million (Bt3.58 billion) on research and development. To bring in more talent, the firm has branched out its engineering hubs to Beijing, Singapore, and recently Seattle.

From now on, Grab is expending more effort on expansion of cloud infrastructures being developed by its 30 information-technology experts.

The latest navigation system is able to allow passengers to select their preferred pick-up and drop-off points. The revamped application will also offer new features like “auto-retry”, which helps a passenger who fails to get a vehicle on the first attempt without having to go through the booking process manually. Live driver tracking is also available in this app.

The firm will also add a “Flash” feature to help passengers find the closest taxis. The in-app feature will be available next month.

“Apart from the rebranding, the firm also revamped its new interface application under the concept of ‘light, fresh and new’. We also take a hyper-local approach to understand what users in each Southeast Asian city prefer, from language preference to payment options,” said Grab co-founder Tan Hooi Ling.

“GrabPay”, which is set to launch in Thailand in the first half of the year, enables passengers to go cashless by using credit cards. A single-credit-card service is now available in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, while multiple card service will be fully introduced by the end of this month.

Entering a new market segment, the firm also offers “GrabWork” to attract corporate passengers who would want get consolidated business or personal statements for claim-submission purposes. The in-app feature is integrated with GrabPay to toggle between personal and corporate payment options.

“After gaining a better understanding about different demands, we therefore have to create and offer more flexible service for different needs. The payment options are among our priorities. For instance, students at Chulalongkorn University might prefer to pay by cash while corporate-credit-card payment might be convenient for SCG officers,” Anthony Tan explained.

He said the key revenue driver for his business was the emergence of the middle class in Southeast Asia countries, which is expected to double by 2020.

To date, there have been more than 11 million Grab app downloads in 28 cities of six countries for ride-hailing services ranging from taxis to private cars, motorbikes, carpooling and delivery.

The company was founded in 2012 in Malaysia and has received crowd funding of Bt700 million from major investors Vertex Ventures Holdings (Temasek), GGV Capital, Qunar, Tiger Global, Hillhouse Capital, Softbank, China Investment Corporation, Didi Kuaidi and Coatue.

BUSINESS DIRECTION

HP Inc (Thailand) plans to expand in the Indochina market, utilising Thailand as a digital hub to cover the high-potential market.

The company also announced “device as a service” (DaaS) to cover small and medium-sized enterprises and the commercial market.

Pavin Vorapruck, managing director of HP Inc (Thailand), said Hewlett-Packard would use the Thai unit as a hub to expand in the Indochina market, including Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. The move started early this year. As the digital hub of the Indochina market, the Thai unit will provide marketing, consultant work and products to the three countries, which are large-potential markets.

“I think the Indochina market has high potential for growth, since the three countries also have high GDP growth and are new markets that have the potential to expand and leverage the market,” Pavin said.

He added that in Thailand the company this year was moving to divide its operation into three business units. The computing business unit will provide desktop computers and notebooks to the market, the second unit will provide printers, and a graphics solutions business (GSB) will provide digital printing such as building wraps.

The firm is also providing a new DaaS service to support SMEs and the commercial market, so that they can more easily acquire, deploy, manage and refresh personal-computer technologies.

The service has customers use their PCs as a utility – a customer will pay one price per seat on a monthly basis over a three- or four-year period. Meanwhile, customers can get customised services and support from HP such as PC configuration and installation, onsite repairs, data migration, and proactive support. Customers will also get the latest HP technology for subsequent contract periods.

The devices covered under DaaS are commercial desktops, notebook PCs, tablets and workstations.

Pavin said the company had also announced the new HP Elite x2, which is a versatile tablet that offers the productivity of a full notebook and is designed for mobile professionals.

Zense plans 40% hike in revenue

ศาสตร์เกษตรดินปุ๋ย : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Zense-plans-40-hike-in-revenue-30277922.html

ZENSE ENTERTAINMENT targets Bt400 million in revenue this year, up by more than 40 per cent from 2015, from its imported TV formats and the shows it produces itself for top-rated television stations.

It also aims to export its own shows to Southeast Asian countries within a couple of years.

Chairman and chief executive officer Varavuth Jentanakul said his company anticipated that the 12 TV shows it produces for Channel 7 HD, MCOT HD, Channel 3SD and True4U channel would receive very good feedback, with an average audience rating of 3.21 points per hour.

Giving this high rating, Zense Entertainment is able to attract a number of advertisers and sponsors to its TV shows.

“Our key strategy is that we must offer the best shows in response to real demand from audiences while helping our partner broadcasters sustain long-term business growth in terms of TV ratings and revenue,” Varavuth said.

The company creates an array of TV shows totalling 27 hours per week, ranging from game shows to variety shows, situation comedies and dramas. Half of the shows it supplies to TV stations are imported formats from global content creators, producers and distributors such as Endemol Shine Group, NBC Universal, ITV Studio and Armoza Formats, and the rest are created and developed by Zense.

The company makes four game shows – “Still Standing Thailand”, “Spelling Star”, “The Money Drop Thailand” and “Sing Your Face Off Season 2” – a variety show called “Jedsarati”, and the TV series “Code Hunter” for market leader Channel 7 HD.

For MCOT HD, the company produces four game shows – “Step Right Up”, Do Me a Favour”, “Asean Together” and “Horo Game” – and a situation comedy named “Ha Company Unlimited”.

It supplies the “Ban Praram 4” news variety show and “Honeymoon Flight” variety talk show to Channel 3SD and “The 60 Seconds Game” to True4U station.

Varavuth said his company was pitching several projects to TV stations and hoped that three of them would be selected for airing in the second half of this year.

He said that two years after its establishment in 2009, his company with 130 experienced staff had been developing its own TV formats for export to neighbouring countries.

For this year, Zense has earmarked about Bt300 million for TV production and operations. It aims to earn at least Bt400 million in revenue from its existing 12 shows, up from Bt280 million last year. Of total revenue this year, 80 per cent will come from selling advertisements and the rest from TV production.

The CEO also said that if the company is able to complete its three studios by the final quarter of the year, this could reduce its TV production costs by 10-15 per cent. The company now rents studios from other companies to produce its shows.

Leaders in Thailand’s start-up ecosystem will join a panel discussion organised by Harvard Business School Association of Thailand alumni on February 4.

The speakers are Juthasree “June” Kuvinichkul (co-founder of GrabTaxi Thailand), Chalermpol “Charles” Tuchinda (director of Software Park Thailand), Ariya Banomyong (managing director of Line Thailand) and Krating Poonpol (general partner in 500 Tuk Tuks and venture partner in 500 Startups).

They will talk about and how organisations can maintain a competitive advantage amid disruptive change, as in a very short period the Internet has re-imagined and disrupted markets, and continues to do so. The majority of those responsible for this are the new entrants, the start-ups.

This is a fast-paced process accountable for massive restructuring of corporate structures and a frequently changing landscape.

The event will take place from 6.45pm at the Bangkok Marriott Sukhumvit Hotel (Thong Lo Skytrain Station). The cost with dinner is Bt2,800 for a non-member or Bt2,300 for a member. You can register online at HBSATH on Eventbrite or e-mail to admin@hbsath.com.

SCG wants to emphasise speed and execution

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/SCG-wants-to-emphasise-speed-and-execution-30277917.html

Roongrote

Roongrote

NEW CHIEF EXECUTIVE Roongrote Rangsiyopash sees no need for Siam Cement Group (SCG), the country’s leading industrial conglomerate, to do something drastically different at this time, but rather to do what it already does better and faster.

“I would like to keep the main policies for a while, and would like to emphasise speed and execution in our work,” he said yesterday.

He will keep his predecessor’s policies of expanding in Asean and increasing the group’s capacity for innovation and value-added products.

Roongrote, who succeeded Kan Trakulhoon, the president and CEO for a decade, at the beginning of this year, told his first press conference that considering the market and competition, SCG should continue to focus on the Asean market and focus more on high value-added products (HVAs).

SCG might intensify its research and development (R&D) efforts, while rolling out more HVA products to other Asean markets.

Besides expanding its production base in Asean, the group will also extend the coverage of its distribution channels in markets such as Myanmar, where it is forming a joint venture to handle cement and building materials, and where it will commence its first cement plant in the middle of this year.

Last year SCG boosted its R&D spending 30 per cent to a record Bt3.5 billion, or 0.8 per cent of sales. This year it plans to increase its R&D budget to exceed 1 per cent of sales.

However, sales from HVA products and services last year dropped 4 per cent to Bt161.85 billion, or 37 per cent of total sales. Meanwhile, SCG reported to the Stock Exchange of Thailand that its board of directors yesterday approved the proposal of its wholly owned subsidiary SCG Building Materials to acquire the remaining 15 per cent of the Prime Group and related assets in Vietnam for Bt2.19 billion.

Prime Group is the largest ceramic tile manufacturer in Vietnam with sales of Bt8.3 billion in fiscal 2015.

SCG saw its operating profit leap 35 per cent to Bt45.4 billion last year, thanks to the wide margins for petrochemical products. Sales slipped 10 per cent to Bt439.6 billion on a big decline in oil prices, which pounded the prices of petrochemicals.

Increased competition and flat demand in the home market were the major reasons for the sluggish performance of the group’s cement and building materials business, whose earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation fell 8.6 per cent.

“Considering additional production capacities and the market outlook [for the cement and building material business] will continue to face challenges in the next one to two years. It will require high management capability,” he said.

SCG will continue to look for ways to boost energy efficiency and workforce productivity and to apply more automation and mechanics in its operations.

Its US$4.5-billion (Bt161 billion) petrochemical-complex project in Vietnam will be delayed by at least six months while it looks for another partner by the first half of this year, after Qatar Petroleum dropped out.

The Thai economy is expected to perform better this year if the government can push its infrastructure projects ahead as scheduled. This would inject more money into the economic system during the second half of this year.

It is difficult to predict the margins of petrochemical products this year as oil prices were volatile and tumbled by about 10 per cent in less than a month.

Thanks to the start-ups of its cement plants in Cambodia, Indonesia and Myanmar, SCG’s sales from its Asean operations are expected to grow by about 20 per cent this year from Bt47.17 billion last year.

Index Living Mall goes for Asean leadership

ศาสตร์เกษตรดินปุ๋ย : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Index-Living-Mall-goes-for-Asean-leadership-30277916.html

INDEX LIVING MALL, a top retailer of home-furnishing products, yesterday announced its 2020 vision to extend its leadership outside Thailand and into Asean.

The vision is in line with urbanisation in the region, which has shifted Asean consumers towards a more modern lifestyle, including the way they buy and use home-furnishing products, as well as the rise of middle-income earners throughout the Asean Economic Community.

Index Living Mall has franchised stores in three countries in the region, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietnam.

Managing director Kridchanok Patamasatayasonthi said the company aimed to double the contribution from AEC markets from 5 per cent of its total revenue currently to about 10 per cent by 2020. The company posted Bt9.5 billion in total revenue last year, up 5 per cent over 2014.

“Our market expansion through international franchisees is the result of growth in the home-furnishing and accessories retail sectors among Asean member countries. Other positive factors, including the bustling economic outlook, rising gross incomes, and similar customer behaviour, helped to accelerate our decision to look for investment opportunities in new markets such as our neighbouring countries within Asean,” she said.

Kridchanok said the company recently appointed VinDS, the retail investment arm of Vingroup, one of the largest commercial-property developers in Vietnam, as its franchisee to tap into the home-furnishing and accessories retail market in that country.

The first Index Living Mall there had a soft opening last month in Ho Chi Minh City, occupying 7,000 square metres of retail space. Located at Vincom Mega Mall Thao Dien, the store cost more than Bt200 million and is expected to achieve Bt350 million in sales in the first year.

The Vietnamese franchisee VinDS also expects to open 10 Index Living Mall stores in major cities in Vietnam, including Ho Chi Minh, Hanoi and Da Nang, within five years.

Vietnam

“Economic growth indicators show that the Vietnamese retail market is No 2 in Asia, after only China,” Kridchanok said.

“During the first half of 2015, the Vietnamese economy posted 6.28-per-cent growth, the highest since 2008. With a population of 90 million, this will continue to grow, thanks to per capita income rising more than 10 per cent over the past decade.”

She said it was expected that the number of Vietnamese earning a medium income of 15 million dong (Bt24,000) per month would increase from 12 million in 2013 to 33 million by 2020.

“The rise of middle-income earners will help propel demand for middle-to-upper-segment products and services, especially within major cities, because of higher purchasing power and metropolitan buying behaviour.”

Ekaridhi Patamasatayasonthi, director for international business development at Index Living Mall, said the company’s venture into Vietnam highlighted its marketing direction to tap into emerging CLMV (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam) markets, aimed at strengthening its leadership position in the home-furnishings and accessories retail market in Asean.

“We have also underlined our strategic partnership plan to acquire more market share in the region,” he said.

Ekaridhi said the company planned to open its first Index Living Mall store in Manila in September via a joint venture with SM Retail, a Philippine business conglomerate in the shopping-mall operator, property-development, banking and retailing businesses. Index Living Mall owns a 30-per-cent stake in the joint venture, while the majority 70-per-cent stake is owned by SM Retail.

In Malaysia, the company last year opened its first home-furnishing store in Putrajaya via a joint venture with AEON Co. The company plans to open three more stores in Malaysia this year – in Kuala Lumpur in March, Kota Bharu in April, and Johor Bahru in the fourth quarter of this year.

Ekaridhi said Index Living Mall had six franchised stores in five countries, namely Malaysia, Russia, Maldives, Nepal and Vietnam. The company also has dealers in Myanmar and Laos.

In Thailand, Index Living Mall currently operates 25 stores in 17 provinces, of which nine are in Bangkok. The company plans to invest Bt470 million this year to open two new stores in Nakhon Pathom and Chachoengsao.

The company expects to post Bt10 billion in revenue this year and to grow its annual sales by 10 per cent over the next five years.

Coca-Cola launches newest global campaign

BEVERAGES

MANILA – Coca-Cola unveils a powerful, global communications campaign for their most iconic product

The global campaign, which was rolled out first in Paris last January 19 featuring the newest tagline “Taste the Feeling,” fully embodies the uplifting refreshment of drinking Coke – whether it be your Coca-Cola, Coke Zero, or Coke Light.

“Every day, millions of people around the world reach for an ice cold Coca-Cola,” said Marcos de Quinto, chief marketing officer of The Coca-Cola Company. “The new global approach is a powerful investment behind all Coca-Cola products, showing how everyone can enjoy the specialness of an ice-cold Coca-Cola, with or without calories, with or without caffeine.”

In the newest campaign, “Taste the Feeling,” Coca-Cola brings to life everyday moments through great universal storytelling and rich visual imagery – placing the product at the heart of its communications.

“Taste the Feeling makes Coca-Cola the hero of our advertising again. The new campaign is all about capturing both the functional and emotional traits of Coca-Cola – the uplifting refreshment of drinking our product and how having a Coke makes any moment more memorable and more special,” says Stephan Czypionka, vice president for Marketing, Coca- Cola Philippines.

Coca-Cola gathered global creative minds from different agencies, commissioned distinguished fashion and commercial photographers, partnered with three independent artists, and collaborated with a renowned songwriter and producer to illustrate both in visual and through music intimate glimpses into everyday stories, feelings and experiences that people share while enjoying an ice-cold Coca-Cola.

Sensorial experience

Anchored in the fundamentals of the Coca-Cola brand – the Spencerian script, the red disc and the iconic glass bottle – the creative campaign brings a new visual and auditory experience for the consumers, still featuring authentic and real moments, a continuation of the long legacy of Coca-Cola.

The lead television spot, “Anthem,” comes to life through a series of ordinary moments linked by a Coca-Cola, such as ice-skating with friends, a first date, a first kiss, and a first love. The soundtrack to “Anthem” is an original song titled “Taste the Feeling.”

Music, being the main passion point for teens, takes center stage in the new campaign. Coca-Cola worked with Music Dealers to write and produce the song. In select markets, the song features the voice of one of the world’s rising music stars and an artist to watch for in 2016, Conrad Sewell. Sewell, a London-born, Australia-raised singer featured in the breakout single “Firestone,” which produced 300 million Spotify streams and 3 million-plus worldwide sales.

Letting go of its iconic five-note signature, Coca-Cola is also unveiling a new audio signature that makes use of the sounds that have long been attributed to drinking Coke: the opening of the fridge, the unmistakable fizzing on ice, the cheers and clinking of glasses, the quenching sip, and the irresistible ahhh at the end.

Following a partnership that started in 2014, Coca-Cola also tapped Avicii to produce a remixed version of the “Taste the Feeling” campaign anthem featuring Conrad Sewell, and he will produce versions of the song for the UEFA EURO 2016™ and the Rio 2016 Olympic Games campaigns.

The new campaign also features images shot by noted fashion photographers Guy Aroch and Nacho Ricci capturing people from around the world enjoying ice-cold Coca-Cola in a variety of everyday moments. The new campaign imagery will be used in print advertising, out of home billboards, in-store as well as digital media.

The shareable and customizable interactive digital experience is made up of different GIF scenes that reflect feelings associated with drinking Coca-Cola set to the “Taste the Feeling” anthem. The experience allows users to pull a GIF scene directly from the microsite, personalize the scene with real-time feelings, and share it on social platforms with #TasteTheFeeling.

“We are introducing a new approach to continue the brand’s long legacy of great visual storytelling,” said James Sommerville, VP Global Design. “The photography features human moments that blur the boundaries between who people are and what they love to do. In all the creative, Coca-Cola plays a lead role in the scene, enhancing the color, texture and emotion of the images. Every interaction is unique and made more special through the enjoyment of a Coca-Cola, any Coca-Cola.”

Philippine Launch

In the Philippines, Coca-Cola unveils their newest ambassadors, headlined by the country’s hottest love teams such as Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, James Reid and Nadine Lustre, and Enrique Gil and Liza Soberano. Completing the 10 ambassadors are Enchong Dee, Janella Salvador, Bailey May and Ylona Garcia.

Coca-Cola will also go around some of the biggest colleges, universities, and tambayans in the country to turn more ordinary moments extra special. One of the biggest activations that teens should look forward to is the roll out of the Coca-Cola Emoticons – a cool and fun way of tasting and sharing the feeling of drinking Coca-Cola with buddies and friends.

Exciting activities are also lined-up for the rest of the year that will uplift ordinary days and bring refreshing moments throughout the country. We are also giving out millions of free Coca-Cola so we can make millions of moments special.

The campaign also marks the consolidation of all Coca-Cola trademark products like Coca- Cola, Coca-Cola Light, Diet Coca-Cola, and Coca-Cola Zero under a ‘One Brand’ campaign approach. “Taste the Feeling” replaces “Open Happiness™” which has been used by Coca-Cola for the past seven years. Since 1886, there have been 45 taglines before “Taste the Feeling”.
