Raffles Hotels & Resorts recently opened a 21-villa beach island experience in the Maldivian oasis of Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Accor’s fourth property in the Maldives and the first under the Raffles brand.

Opened on May 9, Raffles Maldives Meradhoo is home to beach villas and beach residences, featuring private pools, generous living spaces and a lavish marble bathroom with a sunken bathtub and outdoor shower. The Raffles Royal Residence and a secluded collection of Overwater Villas and Residences, which lies adjacent to one of the vibrant house reefs, and which can be reached by a traditional Maldivian Dhoni boat, is set to launch during the last quarter of 2019.

In each of the terraces, guests can marvel at the marine life below through the glass flooring panels. Two magnificent reefs provide a thriving habitat for the marine life including baby sharks, turtles and a myriad of tropical fish. For those that want to learn more about the underwater realm, the hotel’s resident marine biologist and team of marine butlers are on hand to personalise guest experiences that bring beautiful insights of the underwater world.

“Boasting 1,200 islands, Maldives is home to the best beaches in the world and now, with the opening of Raffles Maldives Meradhoo, is also home to the best in luxury hospitality. We look forward to offering guests the most natural beauty set within an incredible resort with unrivalled service, says Patrick Basset, Accor’s chief operating officer for Upper Southeast and Northeast Asia and the Maldives.

Guests can relish a range of rich gastronomic delights served at the all-day diner or relax at The Firepit, where various flame-grilled chef specialty dishes are served under the stars. Private destination dining options abound, from caviar breakfasts on a sandbank reached by jet ski, to sunset cruises where the champagne flows freely. A selection of tapas and freshly-prepared sashimi, original cocktail concoctions, inspired by the national drinks of South America and Japan, can be experienced at the over-water Yapa Sunset Bar while Champagnes and wines can be sipped at the popular Long Bar.

Set over the water, Raffles Spa offers a private escape opening doors to discovery with authentic treatments from Biologique Recherch and Aromatherapy Associates and first-class manicures and pedicures by Magaret Dabbs London.

Recharge with an invigorating workout at the over water fitness centre, a soothing seaside yoga session or choose from a selection of water sport activities to balance the physical and mental wellbeing.

“For couples looking for an unforgettable romantic hideaway, our exceptionally spacious villas and the discreet expertise of the Raffles butler service redefines the resort experience. From intimate dining with our private chef service to snorkelling and diving in the world’s most breath-taking coral reefs, we create a place where guests can enjoy the best of both worlds in a destination known for its stunning surroundings,” said Olivier Larcher, general manager of Raffles Maldives Meradhoo.

To mark the 350th anniversary of Dutch artist Rembrandt van Rijn’s death, Amsterdam’s luxurious Conservatorium hotel joins hands with the Rijksmuseum to craft the Art Suite by Rembrandt package.

The room rates start at 875 euros (Bt31,000) for a night in the Art Suite, which is adorned with curated artwork reminiscent of the Rembrandt’s masterpiece, “The Night Watch”, and receive two sleeping masks featuring Rembrandt’s famous work “Marten & Oopjen”.

To maximise the guest experience, Conservatorium enlisted the assistance of Dutch designer Irma Boom, who created the colour scheme for the suite’s design based on the DNA colours of “The Night Watch”, as well as renowned Dutch artist Sarah van Sonsbeeck, whose interpretation of the painting can be found in the bathroom.

“We wanted hotel guests to be immersed in the different elements and colours of Rembrandt’s work, and to inspire them before seeing the real thing at the Rijksmuseum,” said Boom.

“In my own personal way, I tried to get closer to Rembrandt as an artist, imagining what would happen the moment after everyone stops their posing and they would actually step out of the painting.”

The package also provides a copy of the book “Rembrandt: Biography of a Rebel” by curator Jonathan Bikker and complimentary ‘fast-lane’ access for two persons to the ‘Year of Rembrandt’ exhibits at the Rijksmuseum.

Guests can also register for the additional sightseeing programmes that include a private after-hour tour of the Rijksmuseum’s Hall of Fame and two-hour private walking tour through the city of Amsterdam that showcases where Rembrandt lived and worked, and the places that inspired his work.

The Rijksmuseum is commemorates Rembrandt’s 350th anniversary with the Year of Rembrandt exhibitions and special events celebrating the work of one of the world’s greatest artists.

The year-long celebration opens with “All the Rembrandts”, in which the Rijksmuseum will present for the first time an exhibition of all 22 paintings, 60 drawings and more than 300 of the finest examples of Rembrandt’s prints in its collection. As well as holding the world’s largest collection of Rembrandt paintings – including “The Night Watch” and “The Jewish Bride” – the Rijksmuseum collection offers the world’s most comprehensive and representative overview of Rembrandt’s work.

This exhibition will run until June 10 and then from July onwards. Rijksmuseum visitors will be invited to watch the restoration of “The Night Watch”, Rembrandt’s most celebrated masterpiece next year. From July 15 to September 15, 2020 visitors can enjoy the “Long Live Rembrandt” exhibition.

Bookings can be made at http://www.ConservatoriumHotel.com.

“The opening of the property strengthens our luxury footprint in Japan following the successful launch of Pullman Tokyo Tamachi last year. Home to 17 stunning Unesco World Heritage Sites, Kyoto is considered the heart and soul of traditional Japan. Famed for its great temples, beautiful gardens and intricate works of art, it combines a modern city with historical treasures,” said Patrick Basset, chief operating office at Accor for Upper Southeast & Northeast Asia and the Maldives.

Surreal nights with Mickey and Minnie

Le Bristol Paris and Parisian gallerist Kamel Mennour have transformed the luxury Paris Suite into a live-in exhibit with radical pop artist Bertand Lavier’s artworks to give guests a surreal night’s sleep.

Inspired by Mickey and Minnie’s adventures in a modern art museum, the living room of this suite has become a “thought bubble” with cartoon characters jumping off the paper into sculptures set in a technicolour space.

The work, an extension of Bertrand Lavier’s Walt Disney Productions series, continues in Le Bristol Paris gardens where three-metre-high brilliantly bright sculptures confront guests amidst the nurtured elegance.

The suite’s salon is designed to resemble the museum in the Disney comics: the floor is swathed in a zingy purple carpet and minimalist modern furniture stands in relief against vivid yellow and green walls. Brilliant sculptures and canvases in pop colours are inspired by the Walt Disney comic strip.

The surprising journey in fiction stops only when you return to the reality of the Paris Suite’s other rooms, which retain their Louis XVI luxurious elegance, a rather surreal contrast.

The hotel offers the Art at Le Bristol package, in which guests can stay two nights in the Suite Paris by Bertrand Lavier, enjoy American breakfast, the wine tasting in exclusive wine cellar and dinner with artist Bertrand Lavier at Epicure restaurant. Other benefits include VIP roundtrip transfer and a private tour of the Bertrand Lavier exhibition at the Galerie kamel mennour, which runs until May 25.
