Red-Hot Arpichaya Yubol Employed Her Superb Putts To Beat The Young Duo Of Ekpharit Wu And Sirapob Yapala By Four Strokes And Claimed The Season-Ending Bt5 Million Thailand Mixed Presented By TrustGolf Trophy At The Gasson Panorama Golf Club In Lamphun On Sunday.

The 2018 No 1 player on the Thai LPGA Tour was on fire from start to finish, shooting six birdies in the first 10 holes and, despite a hiccup on the 11th where she hit a double bogey, bounced back to generate four more birdies to sign off with a 64 on 23 under-par-265.

“I didn’t have the pressure at the beginning as I played in the same group with familiar players. But I felt a bit uptight on the 11th and had a double. I tried to calm down and fought my way back to shoot more scores. Hitting eight under in the final round was amazing,” said the 20-year-old Arpichaya following her second win of the year. Her previous 2022 victory came in the LET Access Series in July in Scotland.

This marked her second crown on the Thailand TrustGolf Tour after she won the inaugural edition in February last year at the Black Mountain Golf Club. In addition to the winner’s prize money of Bt750,000, the Saraburi-based also earned a berth into the Australian Women’s Open as the best female player who finished in the top five of the fifth and final Thailand Mixed event in 2022. She will join Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong who finished third in the last Thailand Mixed in the December’s Australian LPGA Tour tournament.

“I’m so proud of myself to be really patient out there until the final hole. The course sets up pretty tough but I still managed to shoot low scores. I cannot say how happy I am to win on this tour again and especially this is the last Thailand Mixed event of the year,” said Arpichaya who has won a total 12 career titles thus far.

Ekpharit, 22 from Rayong, had six birdies against two bogeys for a final 68 and a total 19 under-par-269. His runner-up position finish this week matched his best result on a pro tour after settling at this same spot in the Thai PGA Tour in Nakhon Nayok two months ago.

Also at tied second was 17-year-old Siripob who produced an error-free round 66 for his best result in a main professional tour.

Overnight leader Amarin Kraivixien had to bear another heart-broken final result after a sluggish round of 70 which placed him at lone fourth on 270. Amarin was a 52-hole leader in the previous Thailand Mixed where he lost to Artiruj Winaicharoenchai on the final day.

Of all the five Thailand Mixed tournaments this season, four were won by female players including Chanettee Wannasaen who won a record of three straight titles: the first at the Springfield Royal Country Club in Cha-Am, Sothern Hills Golf and Country Club in Songkhla and Rayong Green Valley Country Club. The fourth circuit was won by a male golfer Artiruj  last month at Thana City Country Club.
National player Weerawish Narkprachar settled at tied 15th on five-under-par 280 which earned him the Adidas Best Amateur Award for the men while Satonkan Thiengsri won the women’s division with a total 285 and landed joint 35th.

Manchester City And Wolverhampton Wanderers Paid Their Respects To The Late Queen Elizabeth II On Saturday (September 17) As The Premier League Resumed.

Players and fans held a minute’s silence at the Molineux Stadium as a tribute, followed by a rendition of the national anthem.

Last weekend’s games were postponed following the Queen’s death on Thursday (September 8), meaning that this is the first chance that these clubs and their fans have had to pay their respects at a match.

While the Premier League resumed on Friday night, a few fixtures needing extra policing will be postponed this weekend as the country prepares to hold a huge state funeral on Monday (September 19).

Manchester City comfortably won the match 3-0.

The Up-And-Coming Amarin Kravixien Once Again Put Himself In Contention In The Thailand Mixed Hosted By TrustGolf Following His Bogey-Free 65 At The Gasson Panorama Golf Club In Lamphun On Saturday.

The big hitter from Bangkok who came closet to winning his maiden professional win at the last Thailand Mixed series at Thana City Golf Club where he lost to Artiruj Winaicharoenchai by five strokes in the final round crafted seven birdies, five on the front and two after the turn, to lead on 16 under-par-200. That was one ahead of young-gun Ekpharit Wu and the only female in the top five Arpichaya Yubol, each with a 201.

“I can’t say that it was mistake free round because I knew I still left a few shots out there today, especially not being able to birdie the par 5 hole on the back nine. But overall, I’m really satisfied with my solid round today,” said the 26-year-old Amarin in his first appearance at par-72 Gasson Panorama.

Asked about his game plan for Sunday, Amarin said: “I don’t have any specific thought for tomorrow apart from doing my thing. If I focus on what someone else is doing, then that means I’m not focusing enough on myself.”

Amarin is in search for his first key tour title after he won a Thailand Development Tour event in Nakhon Nayok back in 2019. He is confident he always has what it takes to win a tournament and makes his statement that he is here to win.

“I know I’m capable of getting it done but it still has yet to happen. I’m here to win. Let’s see how it goes tomorrow,” Amarin said.

Ekpharit who has a Taiwanese father benefitted from his hot driver and sharp iron to produce the week’s lowest score of 63 which propelled him to a tied second on 15 under-par-201 alongside Arpichaya.

“I couldn’t be happier by hitting nine under. I really served well and hit accurate approach shots to set up easy birdie chances,” said the 22-year-old player who is also eyeing on his maiden win.

“I’ve never played in the final group on the final day before. This is a new experience for me, but I will try to play my game and not to put myself under pressure,” he added.

Twenty-year-old Arpichaya, with eight birdies and one bogey on the 14th for a 65, stands a shot at claiming her second Thailand Mixed title after she won the inaugural Thailand Mixed event in February last year.

“My approach going to the final will be the same like what I did today. That is to relax out there, not thinking too much about winning,” the former Thai LPGA Tour No 1 said.
Teenage rising star Sirapob Yapala fired a 69 to sit two back off the lead on 203 with Ronnachai Jamnong following two shots behind on 205.

Midway leader Kammalas Namuangruk was nowhere near his best as he had to bear with a 75 which included a double bogey on the 10th, three bogeys and two birdies for a total 206, the same score achieved by three-time champion Chanettee Wannasaen who carded a 69.

The Thailand Mixed is organised by TrustGolf, an indoor training center with advanced technology. It is supported by the Sports Authority of Thailand, the National Sports Development Fund, the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, Bangkok Bank, B.Grimm Company, Bond Holdings, AISPLAY, Bridgestone, Trust Pharmacy, Trust Live Streaming, Adidas Golf,  Balance Golf Nutrition, Leborn, LMV, Longa, the Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration and Gatsson Legacy Golf Club in Lamphun.

England Soccer Great David Beckham Spotted In Queue For Queen’s Coffin

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2022

THE NATION

Former England Soccer Star David Beckham Was Seen Queuing Alongside Other Mourners On Friday (September 16) In London To See The Coffin Of Britain’s Longest Reigning Monarch Queen Elizabeth II Who Died Last Week.

Beckham – wearing a dark jacket, tie and a dark hat – gently smiled as others in the queue spoke with him and took selfies.

Elizabeth died in Scotland aged 96 last week, prompting an outpouring of emotion that drew tens of thousands out to see her coffin on its journey to London, and that has now compelled many more to join long lines pay their respects during a four and a half day lying-in-state ceremony.

The 47-year-old former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder and current co-owner of American Major League Soccer team Inter Miami said he had joined the queue at 2.15 a.m. (0115 GMT).

“It’s hard to explain. You know, it’s very, very emotional. You know, the silence….the feeling in the room is very hard to explain,” said Beckham, who was wearing a dark flat cap and a dark suit with a black tie and appeared to be alone.

Television footage of Westminster Hall showed Beckham, who met the queen several times during her 70-year reign, looked tearful as he waited to file past her coffin.

Stopping to pay his respects by the coffin at around 3.25 p.m, Beckham bowed his head and closed his eyes momentarily.

The government paused entry to the queue for a few hours earlier on Friday after warning of waiting times of at least 14 hours.

It snakes its way for miles through central London to parliament’s Westminster Hall. Some 750,000 people in total are expected to file past the coffin before Monday morning.

Kammalas Namuangruk Shot A Second Round 64 To Cling To The Lead Going To The Weekend Stage Of The Bt5 Million Thailand Mixed Hosted By TrustGolf At The Gasson Panorama Golf Club In Lamphun On Friday.

With his accurate fairways in regulation, Kammalas sprinkled his round with nine birdies against a lone bogey on the 17th hole to lead on 13 under-par-131 at the par 72 6,929-yard layout for the men and 6,314 for the women.

“I was playing incredibly well. In fact, my goal this week is to hit eight fairways and 12-13 greens each day. But hitting 18 fairways today was far beyond my expectation. That’s why I was able to hit close to the pins and shot so many birdies,” said the 30-year-old former SEA Games national player.

Kammalas is now in a good position to add his second professional win in his portfolio. His maiden and only professional victory occurred in the All Thailand Golf Tour at the Royal Hill Golf Resort and Spa in Nakhon Nayok four years ago.

“I’m going to the weekends with the same mindset and game plan. Hitting 13 fairways and 13 greens in regulation is what I have in mind. Other than that, I will try to create myself more scoring opportunities,” added the Bangkok-based golfer.

Chiang Mai’s hope Sirapob Yapala set himself as another title prospect, shooting a second round 67 to trail by three strokes on a 134.

Sitting four strokes back was the in-form Amarin Kravixien who carded a 67 (one eagle on the 15h, five birdies and two bogeys) for a midway total of 135.

“That eagle really got me into the groove. Everything about my game was great. I just wished that I made more birdies,” added Amarin who came closet to his first career win by settling at second in the last Thailand Mixed at Thana City Golf Club in Bangkok last month.
“I’m here to win. But whether that’s going to happen or not is another story. If I don’t want to win, I wouldn’t be here,” said the 26-year-old Amarin.

Former champion Arpichaya Yubol, with a 67, followed a shot behind with a total 136, the best by a female challenger.

“I did quite well in my approach game within 100 yards and made birdies. I was hitting the iron better than yesterday. Maybe because the weather in the morning wasn’t so hot like yesterday which proved to my benefit,” said the 20-year-old from Saraburi.
“About my game plan for tomorrow, I will stick to the same game plan and focus more on my lobs. I also need to hit straight to the fairways and create some good opportunities out there,” she added.

A stroke behind were three-time victor Chanette Wannasaen and Waris Manthorn, each with a 137.
With the cut at three over-par-147, a total of sixty-six players made it to the weekend rounds.

Federer Broke The News Fans Across The World Have Long Been Fearing When He Announced On Thursday He Will Retire From Competitive Tennis After Next Week’s Laver Cup In London.

The 41-year-old Swiss, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles and is regarded by many as the best player ever to wield a racket, has not played a match since last year’s Wimbledon.

“As many of you know, the past three years have presented me with challenges in the form of injuries and surgeries,” Federer said in a post on Instagram.

“I’ve worked hard to return to full competitive form. But I also know my body’s capacities and limits, and its message to me lately has been clear. I am 41 years old.”

“I have played more than 1,500 matches over 24 years. Tennis has treated me more generously than I ever would have dreamt, and now I must recognize when it’s time to end my competitive career. The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event. I will play more tennis in the future, of course, but just not in Grand Slams or on the tour.”

Federer, who dominated men’s tennis after winning his first Grand Slam title at Wimbledon in 2003, has been troubled by injuries in recent years.

He has undergone three knee operations in the last two years and his last competitive match was a quarter-final defeat against Poland’s Hubert Hurkacz at the 2021 Wimbledon.

Federer had announced he planned to return to the tour when he teams up with long-time rival and friend Rafa Nadal to play doubles at the Laver Cup in London.

He had also planned to play at the Swiss indoors tournament at home in Basel.

Former SEA Games Gold Medalist Kammalas Namuangrak Produced A Spectacular Back-Nine Performance To Emerge Among The Four-Way Lead In The Bt5 Million Thailand Mixed Presented By TrustGolf At The Gasson Legacy Golf Club In Lamphun On Thursday.

With his opening 67, the 30-year-old, a member of the Thailand’s winning team in the 2017 Games in Kuala Lumpur, carded seven birdies, six on the back, against a double bogey on the first hole to share the lead alongside Thai-Taiwanese Ekpharit Wu, teenage Sirapop Yapala and Waris Manthon at the par 72 6,929-yard landscape for the men and 6,314 for the women.

“I hit six-under on the back (started on the 10th). I played almost perfectly, hitting 17 greens with only one double on the first hole. But I’m prepared for some tough conditions as there are ponds here and there on this course,” said Kamalas who is based in Bangkok.

“But I really like to praise the course staff here for their amazing work. On Monday, the course was soaked with water due to some heavy rain,  but today it sets up in a great condition,” added Kamalas, a one-time winner on the All Thailand Golf Tour in Nakhon Nayok back in 2018.

“I have a good start this week, and I intend to keep it that way. I will focus on hole by hole, play one shot at a time. I’m not competing against anyone as we have a bunch of good players out there. I’m my own enemy,” he said.

Ekpharit, 23 from Rayong, enjoyed an unblemished back-nine play which featured four birdies before he committed an error on the third hole, then recovering to shoot two straight birdies on the sixth and seventh to share the lead.

“I’m quite pleased with my iron. I hit most of the fairways. The bad thing is I missed a few three-foot putts. But overall, I’m quite happy with my game. I just need to fix on a few things before the second round,” said Ekpharit who posted eight top 20 finishes on the All Thailand Golf Tour events this season. His best run in a professional tour was a runner-up position in the Thai PGA Tour at the Royal Hills Golf Resort & Spa in Nakon Nayok two months ago.
Former national team’s player, 17-year-old Siripob  from Chiang Mai also hit six birdies with only one bogey on his scorecard.

“I hit 17 greens in regulation, missing only one on the 12th. However, my putter let me down a bit. I feel like I have my momentum back again after being far from impressive in the Thailand Open,” said Sirapob
“I will try to serve well and hit he fairways like I did today. I also have to make more putts in order to stay in contention this week,” the teenager said.

Amarin Kraivixien, who finished runner-up in the previous Thailand Mixed  in Bangkok, hit an ace on the fifth hole and was leading at six-under heading to the 18th. Unfortunately, an ending double bogey saw him finish with a 68 along with Woradech Jangphan and Chommapat Pongthanrak, the only female in the top five.

THU, SEPTEMBER 15, 2022

Manchester City Manager Pep Guardiola Said Erling Haaland’s Spectacular Winner In Wednesday’s (September 14) Victory Over Borussia Dortmund Reminded Him Of Former Dutch Great Johan Cruyff.

The Norwegian leapt at the back post, six minutes from the end of the Champions League Group G game, to hook a Joao Cancelo cross into the net with the outside of his left-foot.

City had to come back from a goal down with two strikes in the final 10 minutes to secure the win against a determined German side, for whom 22-year-old Haaland played until the summer.

“Yeah maybe the people who know me, maybe you know the influence Johan Cruyff had in my life as a person – education, manager and mentor and everything. Johan Cruyff, years ago, years ago, scored in the Camp Nou, an incredible goal against Atletico Madrid. It was quite, quite, quite similiar to Erling Haaland’s goal and the moment he scored the goal, I thought ‘oh Johan Cruyff.’ It was quite similar, it was a really good one.” Said Pep Guardiola

“And it was quite similar. We had a lot of problems to get our rhythm and we were so passive in our transition, our movements, to be aggressive. Yeah we struggled. We played in a wrong gear.”

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola remonstrates with referee Daniele Orsato after the match Action Images via Reuters

“I was impressed three seasons ago. Now he’s 19? He was 17. I was impressed with 17, imagine with 19. He’s able to defensively follow Gundo (Ilkay Gundogan) and Kevin (De Bruyne) in the pockets and win the duels. The transition is fast, he had the sense for the second position right to the box, the goal he scored. So yeah, exceptional player. I think everybody knows it, not because THE manager of Manchester City’s going to tell you, so everybody knows it.”

Guardiola was far from happy about the way his team, once again, had to turn the game around.

The equaliser came via a thundering long-range drive from defender John Stones, and Guardiola joked before the news conference that he wanted to talk about his strike before mentioning Haaland’s winning goal against his former side.

City, who won their opening group game against Sevilla 4-0, top the standings on six points, three ahead of the Germans.

Queen Elizabeth Was Remembered Fondly Before The Latest Round Of Champions League Fixtures On Wednesday Night (September 14).

In Glasgow, Rangers fans created a mosaic of the British flag and Queen Elizabeth during the minute’s silence, before the crowd launched into a rousing rendition of ‘God Save the King’.

The Scottish side went on to lose against Napoli 3-0 at Ibrox, as the Italian club maintained their position on top of Group A.

At Stamford Bridge in London, an impeccable minute’s silence was observed before Chelsea’s match against RB Salzburg.

New coach Graham Potter’s first game in charge ended in a 1-1 draw, after Raheem Sterling’s opener was cancelled out by Noah Okafor’s 75th minute equaliser.

The Etihad Stadium in Manchester also observed a minute’s silence before kick-off, with fans holding up various flags remembering the Queen.

Pep Guardiola’s side again relied on the brilliance of prolific striker Erling Haaland, as the Norwegian acrobatically scored an 84th minute winner to beat Borussia Dortmund 2-1.
