Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz Won The U.S. Open, Becoming At 19 The Youngest Man To Win A Major Since Rafael Nadal‘s First Title At The 2005 French Open And The Youngest Man To Ascend To The No. 1 Ranking In ATP History.
Alcaraz, a phenom over the last few years, took out Norwegian Casper Ruud 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (1), 6-3 in Sunday’s unprecedented final. It marked the first time that two men faced off each seeking his first major title and to take over the No. 1 ranking for the first time.
Alcaraz denied Ruud from becoming the first Norwegian man to win a major singles title. Ruud previously lost this year’s French Open final to Nadal.
Alcaraz is the first teen to be No. 1 in the world, supplanting Australian Lleyton Hewitt as the youngest No. 1 in history.
This final was the youngest by combined age since Hewitt won 2002 Wimbledon over David Nalbandian.

World Number One Iga Swiatek Swept To Victory Over Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur 6-2 7-6(5) In The U.S. Open Final On Saturday (September 10) To Clinch Her Maiden Trophy At Flushing Meadows And Third Grand Slam Crown.
Poland’s Swiatek fell on her back and covered her face with her hands after prevailing in a tight second set tiebreak, having sealed the win when the fifth seed’s shot sailed long.
It was twice French Open champion Swiatek’s first major title on a hard court and the 21-year-old is the first Polish woman to win the U.S. Open.
Despite the defeat, Jabeur will regain her world number two ranking when the tournament concludes on Sunday.
Jabeur made history at Wimbledon when she became the first Arab woman to reach a major final. She added another line in the history books in New York, becoming the first African woman to reach the U.S. Open championship match.
Swiatek came out firing, pushing Jabeur to the back of the court with her precise serve and deep groundstrokes to race to a 3-0 lead.
Jabeur found the range with her forehand to win back-to-back games for 3-2 but the momentum was short-lived as Swiatek broke back and took the 30-minute first set when the Tunisian’s backhand landed in the net.
A confident front-runner, Swiatek kept the pressure on early in the second as frustration began to mount for Jabeur.
Swiatek blasted a backhand winner down the line for a 3-0 second set lead and it seemed the match would be a brief affair.
But urged on by a rowdy and supportive crowd at Arthur Ashe Stadium, Jabeur rallied to force a tiebreak.
However, she made some costly unforced errors that opened the door for Swiatek, who exchanged a warm embrace with the Tunisian after improving to a 3-2 lifetime record against her.

English Premier League Clubs Have Decided To Donate Their Matchday Food To Charity After This Weekend’s Fixtures Were Postponed Following The Death Of Queen Elizabeth II.
The late postponement of 10 matches caused concern that food at stadiums would be wasted during a living-cost crisis when many people are going hungry.
Fulham, Bournemouth, Liverpool, Southampton, Manchester City, Arsenal, Leicester, West Ham and Crystal Palace have confirmed they will make donations to food banks and other charities. Meanwhile, surplus catering supplies from Leeds’ home ground of Elland Road have been donated via the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust.
“We’d like to say a big thank you to the club who have donated to us all surplus food stock, due to the match cancellation,” said the supporters group.
“This is being distributed to Rethink Food in the White Rose Centre.”
Liverpool have already made a donation of food to local organisations, including two schools, the Fans Supporting Foodbanks group, a homeless centre and a youth hostel.
Manchester City are expected to distribute any food with a short shelf life to organisations around Manchester. The club will also pay casual employees who were due to work this weekend. Staff will be remunerated in full for duties at the rescheduled Premier League and Women’s Super League matches.
Casual staff at other clubs are expected to be paid when they work at the rearranged fixtures.
Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, died on Thursday aged 96 after 70 years on the throne.

Hosts And Defending Champions Thailand Got Off To A Strong Start In The Second Women’s Asean Grand Prix Volleyball Tournament With A Dominating Win Over The Philippines On Friday Night.
Pimpichaya Kokram was top-scorer for the home side with 17 points as Thailand crushed the Filipinas 25-17, 25-22, 25-12.
Thailand coach Danai Sriwatcharamethakul fielded a squad of big names that also included Pornpun Guedpard (captain), Watchareeya Nuanjam, Wipawee Srithong, Kaewkalaya Kamulthala, Sasipaporn Janthawisut and Libero Piyanut Pannoy.
But it was Ajcharaporn Kongyot who crushed Philippine resistance in the second set, scoring three points to rescue the hosts from a 19-22 deficit and tilting the match in Thailand’s favour.
The Thais will play their second match of the tournament against Indonesia on Saturday at 6pm.

The queen, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, died peacefully at her home in Scotland on Thursday aged 96.
“As a mark of respect to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed,” it said in a statement.
“At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
“To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.”
The EFL said all its fixtures from Sept. 9-10 will be postponed.
“This is aligned with the approach that the Premier League and the FA will take with their competitions this weekend,”

Thailand Take On The Philippines As The Second Women’s Asean Grand Prix Volleyball Tournament Gets Underway In Nakhon Ratchasima On Friday.
The three-day tournament (September 9-11) will be held at Korat Chatchai Hall.
The tournament is the result of cooperation between the Thailand Volleyball Association, Asian Volleyball Confederation, and Nakhon Ratchasima administration. Four national teams from the region will vie for prize money of 2.5 million baht.
Indonesia play Vietnam in the opening match on Friday at 3pm, followed by the Thailand-Philippines game at 6pm.

A Moment Of Silence Was Held At European Soccer Matches Involving British Soccer Teams To Mark The Death Of Queen Elizabeth II On Thursday (September 8).
Manchester United and Real Sociedad paid tribute ahead of their Europa League match with Real Sociedad, while West Ham and Romanian side FCSB players did the same before their Europa Conference League game.
In a statement, UEFA President Aleksander Čeferin said: “UEFA and European football are truly saddened by the passing away of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, one of the world’s most-respected figures.
“Our thoughts are with her family and the President of the English Football Association Prince William, as well as with the citizens of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth realms.”
The Ministry Of Tourism And Sports Held A Press Conference To Unveil The Trophy For “OR THAILAND GRAND PRIX 2022”.
The trophy’s design concept is inspired by the Phanom Rung light phenomenon at the Prasat Hin Phanom Rung monument, which embodies the Thai identity with the mythical character of Hanuman complemented by the intricate lines of The Chang International Circuit.
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports held a press conference to countdown to MotoGP 2022, hosted by Thailand, under the name “OR THAILAND GRAND PRIX 2022”.
The event will take place at Chang International Circuit, Buriram province on 30 September to 2 October, 2022. The excitement is palpable among both Thai and international motorsport fans as Thailand hosts the high-octane event for a third year.
Mr Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Minister of Tourism and Sports, said only three weeks remain until the ignition will start for the momentous motorsports event in Thailand. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, on behalf of the Thai government and people, expressed the highest confidence that Thailand is fully prepared for the historic event.
The Ministry is scheduled to send a working committee to inspect the event’s readiness on 28 September 2022. Members of the press will get the chance to visit Sarus Crane Village, Sawaisor Community in Buriram Province. The attraction will help promote sports tourism through the charms of local culture, day-to-day livelihood and OTOP products made by the local community.
“This year’s trophy embodies the Phanom Rung light phenomenon at the Prasat Hin Phanom Rung monument, which is Buriram’s pride and joy. The upper section of the trophy is highlighted by intricate lines signifying the Chang International Circuit and complemented by the mythical character of Hanuman. The mythical creature has been used to promote ThaiGP as it is the embodiment of speed and agility, the perfect symbol for the high-octane MotoGP competition.”
The Tourism Authority of Thailand unveiled a pavilion under the concept “Amazing Thailand Festival at ThaiGP.” The Tourism press and information center will have Thai and English-speaking officials ready to provide information to visitors during the 3-day extravaganza. It will be divided into different zones including Tourism across Thailand’s 5 regions zones and Sports Event which offers modern interactive activities such as marathon, triathlon and long-distance cycling among others.
Buriram Governor Thatchakorn Hatathathayakul said with the province of Buriram hosting the exhilarating event for the third year, the province is committed to maintaining the highest level of standards and ensuring the 3-day event runs smoothly. Hosting the competition allows the province to showcase to the world the best of Buriram from its silk, traditional fabric, local delicacies, and handicrafts. MotoGP attendees will also receive all the necessary and important information through the thousands of officials and volunteers ready to look after the visitors.
This year, a Line official account and a Thai-English bilingual website have been created and tourists can scan QR Codes to access the various platforms in order to check information around the clock. Vital information such as the circuit’s entrances and exits, transportation hubs, parking spaces, schedules, accommodations, restaurants, and tourist attractions can be accessed in order to build confidence with the tourists and ensure they have the best experience.

The Trophy Won By Manchester United For Winning Their Exhibition Match Against Liverpool In Thailand Has Arrived At The Club’s Old Trafford Headquarters.
Manchester United won “The Match Bangkok Century Cup 2022”, beating Liverpool 4-0 on July 12 at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok.
However, the team left the trophy behind in Thailand as they were travelling to Australia soon after the match.
The Thai event organiser helped the club and sent the trophy to their home ground in Manchester, the UK.
The trophy arrived at Old Trafford on Wednesday and it is displayed at the club’s museum along with other famous trophies.
Manchester United have been on a hot streak, winning their last four matches in the English Premier League after a poor start to the season. The club is currently in fifth place on the standings with 12 points from six matches
