Manchester United stars swapped the pitch for the kitchen in Bangkok on Sunday, surprising onlookers with their chopping skills.

Jadon Sancho, Diogo Dalot and Tahith Chong battled for supremacy in a one-hour cooking competition – one of six events organised for the Man Utd team to showcase Thai culture at their Athenee Hotel. The events also gave fans a chance to mingle with the Premier League players, who were in town for a pre-season clash with Liverpool on Tuesday.

Fans grabbed the rare chance to take selfies with their favourite players, as Manchester United returned to Thailand for the first time since 2013.

The cooking competition saw the Man Utd trio take on the challenge of making som tam (spicy papaya salad) and smoothies. The football stars showed off surprisingly sharp culinary skills, suggesting they were no strangers to the kitchen.

Their efforts were judged by the stern eye of the hotel’s chef, who chose Sancho as the winner, with Darlot scoring the runners-up prize and Chong taking third.

The event was joined by 18 fans who won places via Marriott Bonvoy membership. All took home the new Man Utd 2022-23 home shirt, autographs from players and an apron.

Man United land in Melbourne ahead of Australia tour

Off the back of a 4-0 routing of Liverpool in Bangkok in Erik ten Hag’s first match as manager, United take on Australian outfit Melbourne Victory at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday (July 15).

Ten Hag’s men then face Premier League rivals Crystal Palace at the same venue four days later, before meeting Aston Villa in Perth on July 23.

Ten Hag’s side will then travel back to Europe for a weekend double-header when they face Atletico Madrid in Oslo on July 30 before facing Rayo Vallecano at Old Trafford on July 31.

Will Fish will join the United squad in Australia after Axel Tuanzebe left the pre-season tour. The 24-year-old did not train in the open session at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Monday night and was absent from the squad for the victory over Liverpool.

United flew to Melbourne after the match, but Tuanzebe remained at the team hotel in Bangkok. A club spokesman said: “Axel returned back to Manchester this morning to deal with a small personal issue.”

Former LPGA player Patcharajutar Kongkraphan got off to a great start in the Bt2.5 million SAT-TWT Open – Road to World Ranking following an opening 68 at the Royal Hua Hin Golf Club on Wednesday.

PK Steals 1st Round Limelight at SAT-TWT Open in Hua Hin

Playing under overcast sky, the 30-year-old from Khon Kaen fired seven birdies against three bogeys to finish atop the first round leaders’ board at the par 72 6,343 layout. She was a shot ahead of unfancied Yupaporn Kawinpakorn, ex-LPGA member Nontaya Srisawang and 16-year-old Kornkanok Sungpankhao.

“I’m quite focused with my game and everything went smoothly. I’m quite proud with my mental game and the way I stuck to my game plan,” said Patcharajutar or “PK” a short name called by  fellow players.

Patcharajutar who posted three top 10 finishes on the LPGA Tour has been on a superb form this year, settling as a runner-up three times on a local tour. Despite being unable to win those events,  she remains positive about her chance this week.

PK Steals 1st Round Limelight at SAT-TWT Open in Hua Hin

“Even I didn’t win those tournaments, I’m getting more and more confident to be so close at winning. I know I’m getting there. All I need is to stay patient,” added PK who still hopes to return to the LPGA Tour since her last participation in 2019.

“I need to play in Asia for awhile to regain my confidence. Right now, I feel more comfortable playing at home. Once I’m ready, I will want to play on the LPGA once again,” she said.

Yupaporn, with three birdies after the turn, shot a 69 to sit a stroke back. The 31-year-old from Samutprakarn has a good memory at this course where she produced her best result on homesoil by finishing at second in a match-play event last year.

“I’m quite familiar with this course but it’s still a very tough one. You need to hit the fairways and keep the ball on play all time. If you lose your concentration even a bit, you will end up in disaster,” said Yupaporn, looking for her first victory since winning a China LPGA Tour event in 2018.

Another  former LPGA player Nonthiya came back from one over par to fire four birdies on holes No 4, 5, 6 and 8 to finish with a 69.

“I’m happy with my game by hitting a lot of fairways and had great up and down shots. The course condition is quite tough, so I need to adjust to weather well and try to make as fewer errors as possible,” said the 34-year-old Nonthiya who hopes to end the seven-year drought of title since winning in Taiwan in 2015.

Despite her good start, Kornkanok who just turned professional in March hoped just to make the cut this week despite the fact that she won on this course as a junior back in 2020.“My goal is to improve my game as I’m just in my rookie year. I want to learn as much experience as possible in order to improve my game. That’s why I decided to turn pro at such a young age,” said the girl from Karasin.

Football fans in Thailand have criticised the design of the trophy presented to Manchester United as well as the English club’s decision to leave it behind in Thailand.

Manchester United beat Liverpool 4-0 in a one-off match to win “The Match Bangkok Century Cup 2022” in front of over 50,000 fans at Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok on Tuesday.

The club’s new manager, Erik ten Hag, and captain Bruno Fernandes lifted the trophy together at the award ceremony in front of the packed stadium.

However, netizens were critical of the size and design of the trophy.

The base of the trophy is a modified computer case. Computer hardware store Advice is a sponsor.

Both Thai and foreign fans questioned the design as the bottom part of the trophy was a model of Rajamangala Stadium.

A Facebook user posted after the match that the trophy was left behind in the press room and netizens were curious if the organiser would send it to the team.

Event organiser Fresh Air Festival later said the company would be sending the trophy to UK.

The company explained that since Manchester United was travelling to Australia for pre-season matches soon after the game ended in Bangkok, it was difficult for the team to carry the trophy. Also, the media had requested to take a closer look at the trophy.

Manchester United will play against Melbourne Victory on Friday in Melbourne, and Premier League rivals Crystal Palace on July 19 in Perth.

Getting to know Vinij who brought football giants to Bangkok

#SootinClaimon.Com : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation.

“The Match Bangkok Century Cup 2022”, won 4-0 by Manchester United against Liverpool in front of a packed Rajamangala Stadium, is a feather on the cap of the organiser, Fresh Air Festival.

Getting to know Vinij who brought football giants to Bangkok

Before the match, Fresh Air CEO Vinij Lertratanachai, 60, was the public face for the event, often seen in the media with both good and bad news. So who is Vinij?

Vinij was a famous DJ and actor in films and many TV shows before becoming the CEO of Fresh Air Festival.

Fresh Air Festival was established on March 9, 2009, to hold business and product exhibitions. Vinij owns 150,000 shares in the company, which account for 50 per cent of the 30-million-baht authorised capital. The company has reported losses in all years since 2016.

Fresh Air Festival’s performance in the last five years is as follows:

2016
Total revenue: 126.59 million baht
Net loss: 41.155 million baht

2017
Total revenue: 65.496 million baht
Net loss: 14.729 million baht

2018
Total revenue: 99.904 million baht
Net loss: 8.339 million baht

2019
Total revenue: 80.256 million baht
Net loss: 6.23 million baht

2020
Total revenue: 90.214 million baht
Net loss: 23.602 million baht

Getting to know Vinij who brought football giants to Bangkok

The company has organised several famous events from music festivals, countdown events, concerts, light shows, stage performances, military parades, and sports events.

Fresh Air Festival has organised many big events before but it is undeniable that the match between Manchester United and Liverpool might be the biggest and most challenging event for the company.

It was the first time that Manchester United and Liverpool played each other in Asia, while there was also the Jackson Wang pre-match concert to attract K-pop fans.

Organising the match was tough because there were several problems regarding the 400-million-baht financial support from the Sports Authority of Thailand or tickets being more expensive in Thailand than those sold in Anfield, England.

There was also a controversy over social media influencer Pimrypie selling tickets at a discounted price with perks not offered to other buyers, and computer hardware store Advice selling tickets at half-price at the venue before the match.

Klopp looks at positives after 4-0 drubbing at hands of arch-rivals Man United

Liverpool manager Juergen Klopp tried to look at the positives as his side were hammered 4-0 by bitter rivals Manchester United at a friendly in Bangkok, Thailand.

Klopp looks at positives after 4-0 drubbing at hands of arch-rivals Man United

“As I said, a lot of good situations. I saw a lot of good performances in moments, but no consistency.” Juergen Klopp Liverpool manager said.

“We were sometimes in a rush, we were too high. Anyway, with the way United defended in a man marking system – especially in midfield – we lost the ball at the wrong moments, gave the ball away and they finished the situations off, that’s what was obvious stuff that we have to improve, even if we would’ve won 4-0. It’s just the start of the preseason and now we carry on.”

“When you lose 4-0 and you talk about the game without (talking about) the result, we have a lot of good things to talk about in our team. But if we do it like it should be – not forgetting the result – then we have to consider that we lost 4-0 and so more things didn’t go too well because we made some mistakes – that’s normal – but, we have to pay the price and that’s what we did tonight.”

Liverpool will go to Singapore to day and will play against Crystal Palace on 15 July
