ONE Championship™ (ONE) graced the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Saturday to celebrate its 10-year anniversary with ONE X, a massive three-part extravaganza featuring 20 bouts, including five World Title contests, two submission grappling matches, and a flyweight special rules super-fight.

Angela Lee Submits Stamp Fairtex in Round Two to Retain ONE Women’s Atomweight World Title

In the main event, reigning ONE Women’s Atomweight World Champion Angela Lee powered through a rough first round to come back and defeat ONE Women’s Atomweight World Grand Prix Champion Stamp Fairtex.

Lee stormed out of the gates after the opening bell, forcing Stamp on the back foot. That turned out to be a mistake, as Stamp struck her with several knees from the clinch position. A left hook to the body then had Lee reeling across the Circle as Stamp looked to finish, but the defending World Champion was able to recover and make it to the second round.

From there, it was all Angela Lee, as the Singaporean-American superstar took the Thai fighter to the mat at will, threatening with a variety of submissions. After taking Stamp’s back, Lee flattened her out and snuck an arm under the neck to force the tap.

In the co-main event, 12-time Flyweight MMA World Champion Demetrious Johnson survived a ferocious first round with ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Champion Rodtang Jitmuangnon, taking some hard shots while landing a few of his own. After getting through the Muay Thai round of this historic special rules super-fight, Johnson wasted no time in the MMA frame, closing the distance and instantly taking Rodtang’s back. On the ground, “Mighty Mouse” secured the hooks and latched onto a rear-naked choke that put “The Iron Man” to sleep.

ONE Flyweight World Champion Adriano Moraes submitted #2-ranked contender Yuya Wakamatsu after a tepid start. Both fighters were reluctant to engage in the first two rounds, obviously wary of each other’s strengths. Action finally picked up in the third as both fighters gained a sense of urgency. After an ill-advised shot from Wakamatsu, Moraes saw an opening and capitalized on it, securing a tight guillotine choke. With Moraes’ arm firmly under the neck, Wakamatsu had no choice but to tap.

South Korean-Japanese mixed martial arts icon Yoshihiro “Sexyama” Akiyama put forth a vintage performance, finishing #3-ranked lightweight contender and former ONE Lightweight World Champion Shinya Aoki to win via technical knockout. Aoki went to work in the first round, closing the distance and taking Akiyama’s back. He threatened with his signature face crank for most of the opening five minutes, but Akiyama was able to survive. In the second stanza, “Sexyama” landed a plethora of shots and pummeled Aoki into the Circle Wall. The referee called a halt to the contest as Aoki was unable to intelligently defend himself from the onslaught.

Former ONE Lightweight World Champion Eduard Folayang survived a hellish third round from John Wayne Parr in the Australian legend’s last Muay Thai fight before retiring from the sport. The Filipino superstar started off with his wushu strikes, battering Parr across the Circle with relentless forward pressure. Parr tried his best to defend against Folayang’s trademark spinning attacks, but it was clear “The Gunslinger” was a step behind. In the third round, however, Parr hurt Folayang and went on the offensive, forcing “Landslide” on the back foot. Both men made it to the final bell, and Parr left his gloves on the canvas in an emotional send-off.

ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon Singha Mawynn made a successful defense of his belt, overwhelming #1-ranked contender Marat Grigorian across five rounds. Behind intelligent use of the teep to keep distance, a torrent of left body kicks, and well-placed step-through knees in close quarters, the Thai dominated Grigorian from beginning to end to score a unanimous decision victory. Despite knocking him out in their previous encounter, Grigorian simply had no answer for Superbon’s accurate strikes and flawless timing.

The legendary Nong-O Gaiyanghadao retained his ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai World Title, stopping Felipe Lobo with a thunderous uppercut in the third round. Lobo was game and tried his best to match Nong-O’s pace from the get-go, but the Thai warrior was too precise and calculated with his offense. The reigning king showcased his composure from start to end, picking his shots from the outside while throwing feints that froze Lobo in his tracks. In the third round, he caught Lobo coming in with a punch to the chin that instantly ended the match.

Second-ranked bantamweight kickboxing contender Hiroki Akimoto scored an upset victory over Capitan Petchyindee to capture the ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship. Akimoto was aggressive from the opening bell, bringing the heat to his opponent with fiery combinations. Capitan tried to hold on, but he received two yellow cards for excessive clinching in the third round. He was then docked a point in the fifth and final stanza for the same infraction. Akimoto seized the moment, unloading a barrage of strikes until the final bell. After five rounds of action, all three judges scored the bout in favor of the Japanese challenger to win by unanimous decision.

n the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Grand Prix Championship Final, fourth-ranked Chingiz Allazov stifled third-ranked Sitthichai Sitsongpeenong, winning by unanimous decision after three grueling rounds. In the first frame, Allazov came out firing with accurate combinations, while Sitthichai struggled to find his rhythm. The Thai star picked up the pace in the second stanza, but Allazov answered back furiously. The final round was close, but the Azerbaijani-Belarusian’s boxing gave him a slight edge. With the tournament victory, he is now set to challenge Superbon for the ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title.

Two-division ONE World Champion Reinier de Ridder and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu legend Andre Galvao battled to a draw after 12 minutes of intense submission grappling action. De Ridder was aggressive to start, and Galvao appeared to have difficulty dealing with the Dutch athlete’s size and length. Even though the Brazilian was able to gain top position in the final few minutes, he couldn’t complete the submission finish as time expired.

Promising teenager Chanettee Wannasaen has her eyes firmly fixed on back-to-back wins as she grabbed a two-stroke lead heading into the final round of the Bt3 million Thailand Mixed hosted by TrustGolf at the Southern Hills Golf & Country Club on Saturday.

The big-hitter from Chiang Mai generated three birdies, an eagle on the ninth hole against three bogeys to end the third round with a 70 and 14 under-par-202 with co-overnight leader Arpichaya Yubol trailing two shots behind.

“The greens were very stiff today and the flag positions were difficult for me. If I didn’t hit the ball to the right positions, I would end up in trouble” said the 17-year-old Chanettee who will now vie to become the first player to win two successive Thailand Mixed titles. Last month she hoisted her first trophy at the Springfield Royal Country Club, beating Pavarisa Yoktuan by three shots.

“I will need to remain clam on the final day. If I got frustrated like today, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate on my game,” added Chanettee who has bagged two victories this season including the National Qualifiers of the Honda LPGA Thailand in February.

Arpichya, who seized the top spot on the leaders’ board along with Chanettee after the midway stage, had to bear with a roller-coaster day, swapping five birdies with five bogeys before settling with a 72 and a total 12 under-par-204.

“It was tough to control the shots because the ball rolled pretty fast today. I didn’t play my game at all and I was a bit upset with myself,” bemoaned Arpichaya who won a record five straight LPGA Thailand Tour titles back in 2018.

“I will need to be extra patient and be more prudent on Sunday. I have to read the lie better and calculate the ball speed well on such a fast green condition,’’ added the 19yera-old from Saraburi.

Two-time champion Prom Meesawat, with a 68, followed four shots off the lead on 10 under-par-206. The 37-year-old from Hua Hin will eye on his third victory on the TrustGolf Tour following wins at the Alpine Golf Resort in Chiang Mai and Black Mountain Golf Club on homesoil last year.

“It will be tough to catch up with the leader as the women still have the advantage on the tee box distance. Besides, several par 3 holes are not easy at all. But I will give it a try and see what’s going to happen,” Prom said.

A stoke behind was Nirun Sae-ung who carded a 71 and a total 207, followed by former LPGA member Supamas Saengchan who shot a 70 on 208.

Thai football goes ‘green’ with fans urged to recycle old phones at stadiums

All 16 Thai League 1 football clubs have joined the battle to reduce Thailand’s daily mountain of electronic waste from broken computers, phones and other gadgets.

Thai football goes 'green' with fans urged to recycle old phones at stadiums

Football fans can drop their e-waste at any Premier League stadium nationwide until May 31, under a scheme run by mobile operator AIS and Waste Management Siam (WMS). If they can’t make it to a stadium, fans can simply pop their old gadgets into a box, write the name of their favourite football team on top, and drop it off at the nearest post office.

The disposal points have been set up at stadiums nationwide as part of a drive to recycle e-waste, AIS said. Silver and gold from the discarded gadgets will be recycled into commemorative e-waste medals to hand out to the football clubs in recognition of their environmental efforts.

The scheme would kick-off Thai football’s push to go green with cooperation from fans and communities, AIS added.

Thai League acting chairman Korrawee Prissananantakul said the efforts would help the Thai League meet international standards while also creating environmental awareness among football clubs, players and fans.

“We are ready to expand this initiative to other aspects of the Thai league, so the competition can maintain sustainability as it grows,” he said.

WMS executive director Hiromitsu Takagi confirmed that materials from the e-waste collected would be recycled into medals at DOWA Metals & Mining in Japan.

Two Eagles Propel Chanettee to Share Clubhouse Lead with Arpichaya at Rain-Delayed

Big-hitting Chanettee Wannasaen crafted two eagles to share the clubhouse lead with overnight leader Arpichaya Yubol during the second round of the Bt3 million Thailand Mixed hosted by TrustGolf which was halted due to bad light at the Southern Hills and Country Club in Hat Yai, Songkhla on Friday.

Amonth after winning the last Thailand Mixed series in February, the 17-year-old benefitted from two eagles on the 12th and 16th holes and five birdies against a lone bogey on the 10th for a second round 64. She and the inaugural Thailand Mixed champion Arpichaya were leading at 12 under-par-132 as play was halted due to poor visibility.

Chanettee became the second female winner on the Thailand Mixed after Arpichaya following a three-shot victory over Pavarisa Yoktuan at the Spring Field Royal Club. She now surges into contention again in the second circuit, one of the three Thailand Mixed series which will select top two players on the 2022 TrustGolf Tour Order of Merits to compete in the July’s TrustGolf Women’s Scottish Open at the Dundonald Links in Ayrshire, Scotland.

“I hit close to the pins to create a lot of birdie chances. Although I made some mistakes, I compensated that with two eagles,” said the talented teenager from Chiang Mai.

“About the game plan for the weekend, I need to produce great tee shots at the back nine which is easier than the front,” added Chanettee who also won her second straight National Qualifiers for a slot into the Thailand LPGA event in February.

Lightening warning and heavy rain suspended play for 70 minutes in the afternoon, forcing play to proceed behind schedule. Several players have to resume their actions on Saturday morning in hope to make the cut which is currently projected at four over-par-148.

However, the 2018 Thailand LPGA Tour Order of Merits’ winner Arpichaya was done with her round. She shot five birdies against a bogey on the seventh hole to finish with a 68, emerging as one of the contenders this week after winning the first Thailand Mixed last year in Hua Hin.

“I was a bit excited after an incredible first round (she hit a 64). Too bad I didn’t hit birdies on par 5 holes. The rain interruption also broke my momentum,” said the 19-year-old Arpichaya.
“I have to be more concentrated in the next rounds. I have to be really careful when it comes to distance calculation,” she added.

Pavarisa, runner-up in the first circuit and Wichayanon Chothirunrungrueng, the 2018 Thai PGA Tour No 1, sat four shots off the pace at tied third after both hit a 68 and a total 8 under-par-136.
Two-time champion Prom Meesawat and former national player Kultida Pramphun, each with a second 67, came at shared sixth on 138.

Teddy Sheringham lands in Bangkok with advice for Man Utd – get Pochettino

Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham was quick to give his opinion on who should be the next manager of his old club after he arrived in Thailand on Thursday.

Teddy Sheringham lands in Bangkok with advice for Man Utd – get Pochettino

Asked who could revive the fortunes of a team that has sunk from league winners to also-rans struggling to qualify for European competition, Sheringham offered just one name: Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine coach is currently manager of French Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain but has strong experience in the English Premier League with a five-year stint at Tottenham Hotspur that ended in 2019.

Sheringham played for Spurs between 1992 and 1997 before moving to Manchester United and becoming a member of the “team of legends” that won the treble of Premier League, FA Cup and European Champions League in 1999.

On Thursday, he was at a meet-and-greet organised by SuperSports in CentralWorld, Bangkok, where he made no secret of his pick for next United manager.

Pochettino was the man who could revive a club that has languished since Alex Ferguson retired as manager in 2013, Sheringham told PPTVHD36.

The former striker received a warm welcome from fans of both Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in Thailand.

Teddy Sheringham lands in Bangkok with advice for Man Utd – get Pochettino

He said that Pochettino, 50, would come armed with ideas to help the team achieve success again.

He noted that the Argentine coach would not have to make big adjustments if he moved to England since he had already led Tottenham Hotspur in the top-flight league.

Sheringham also backed Harry Maguire to stay on as captain of Manchester United until a new manager arrives. Maguire has been under pressure over a dip in performances that has seen United knocked out of the Champions League by Atletico Madrid and slump to sixth place in the Premier League.

German coach Ralph Rangnick took over as the Red Devils’ interim coach last season but is due to step aside for a permanent replacement soon.

Pochettino is currently second favourite behind Ajax manager Erik ten Hag to take over from Rangnick.
