The fourth phase of the “Rao Tiew Duay Kan” (We Travel Together) scheme is expected to blast off next month, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) governor Yuthasak Supasorn said.

‘We Travel Together’ 4th phase to take off next month

The travel subsidy scheme will use a 9-billion-baht budget approved by the Cabinet in 2021 and will have a few different conditions from the previous phase, he said.

TAT is discussing the registration date with Krungthai Bank. Yuthasak expects the scheme to launch as early as February 1.

The new conditions for the fourth phase are:

  1. People must register on http://www.เราเที่ยวด้วยกัน.com/ even if they had registered for previous phases.
  2. The government will support 40 per cent of the accommodation cost, with each registrant being allowed to reserve up to 10 rooms, down from a total of 15 in the previous phase.
  3. The number of airline reservations has also been decreased to 600,000 because the previous quota wasn’t used up, leaving plane seats empty.
  4. The scheme will open in February and run to March 2022.
  5. Travellers must reserve an accommodation seven days in advance.

Registrants can avail of:

  • A 40 per cent discount on accommodation at up to 3,000 baht per room per night (maximum 10 rooms or nights)
  • A 600 baht coupon per day, which can be used to buy meals or used at tourist attractions under the scheme. Travellers will need to pay 60 per cent of the fee while 40 per cent can be used under the coupon. Tourists will receive a coupon each day after they check in and it can be used after 5pm.
  • A 40 per cent discount on plane reservations with cash back of up to 3,000 baht per passenger (only for designated provinces). The limit is two seats per room for a total of 30 seats.

Travellers will receive 40 per cent cashback on plane tickets of up to 3,000 baht per passenger when they travel to Phuket, Phang-nga, Krabi, Surat Thani, Songkhla, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, or up to 2,000 baht per passenger if they visit other provinces by air.

To avail of airfare cashbacks, travellers must fill out a form at http://www.เราเที่ยวด้วยกัน.com/ after they check out of their hotel.

Thailand has been ranked the fifth best place in the world and the best in Asia for retired people, according to a French magazine, Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat said.

French magazine ranks Thailand 5th best place in the world for retired people

The list published by the magazine “Capital” was made available by the website Retraite sans Frontieres.

Greece, Portugal and Spain top the list.

The ranking was based on 12 criteria: cost of living, real estate, medical, cultural heritage, environmental heritage, food, weather, leisure activities, safety, difficulty in adaptation, transportation convenience, and infrastructure. Each criterion has a different value depending on how elders chose cities to retire.

Thailand scored high on cost of living, real estate, and medical. Thailand was only one of two Asian cities/countries on the list apart from Bali, which reflects the good image of Thai tourism, the website said.

The website added that the Covid-19 pandemic and transportation hurdles might have affected the rankings, as other countries in Europe and the Mediterranean Sea were listed due to their proximity to France. In spite of that, Thailand took fifth place.

Most importantly, Thailand also has no territorial links to France nor does it use French as an official language. It confirmed that Thailand is the favourite tourist spot for French tourists, especially elders, the website said.

Three northeastern provinces will be promoted as a major domestic and international destination, with a focus on luring Chinese visitors via the China-Laos railway.

Udon Thani, Nong Khai and Bueng Kan will be promoted as secondary tourism provinces on the Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT)’s “Nakara-Thani” tourism route, according to TAT Udon Thani chief Thanaporn Poolperm.

The route through the Isaan region will highlight Buddhist, natural and cultural highlights.

Another theme will be sustainability under Thailand’s BCG (bio-circular-green) economic model, with a northeastern route for electric vehicles already in place.

TAT will promote the new route via its offices in China and Asean, while preparing tourist attractions to meet demand.

The move, which is part of a wider TAT policy to create tourism corridors connecting provinces, comes as Thailand prepares to resume the Test & Go scheme on February 1. The scheme allows quarantine-free entry to the country for fully vaccinated travellers.

Koh Samui was ranked the second-best tourist destination in Asia and seventh-best in the world by the Travel+Leisure magazine recently.

Koh Samui's shiny beaches, sparkling seas make a top destination in Asia

The ranking was based on votes cast by tourists from January 11 to May 10, 2021.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Tanee Sangrat said on Thursday that the island in Surat Thani province was judged on activities and sights, natural attractions, food, friendliness and overall value. Koh Samui is known for its beautiful coastline and crystal clear sea.

Tanee said travellers can enter Koh Samui under the sandbox scheme, which has them staying on the island for seven days before being allowed to travel elsewhere in Thailand. To be eligible travellers must show evidence of being fully vaccinated and a negative Covid-19 test result.

Tanee added that all prevention measures have been implemented in Samui.

Meanwhile, the Greek islands of Milos and Folegandros took the top two spots in the world ranking, with St Vincent and the Grenadines coming in third. Meanwhile, the list of best places in Asia was topped by India’s Andaman Islands.

“On Thursday [December 30] we recorded a total of 8,485 visitors, while the numbers on Friday would have been closer to 10,000,” Kriangkrai Chaiphiset, chief of Doi Inthanon National Park, said on Friday.

“Before the arrival of Covid-19, Doi Inthanon usually recorded about 20,000 visitors daily during the New Year holidays.”

Kriangkrai said since no camping was allowed, tourists showed up as early as 4.30am to catch sight of the rising sun and enjoy the cold weather. Some stayed on to hike up the 4.8-kilometre Kiew Mae Pan path, which takes about three hours to complete.

The Huai Nam Dang National Park in Chiang Mai’s Mae Taeng district is all set to welcome an influx of tourists on the weekend.

Chiang Mais Huai Nam Dang National Park beckons as temperatures drop

Park chief Bancha Ramsiri said on Thursday that many wild Himalayan cherry trees, or Thai Sakura trees, are presently blooming, which occurs only in winter.

The lowest temperature at the sightseeing spot and tent site on Thursday was 9 degrees Celsius. The sky was clear with sunlight and tourists were treated to a white sea of fog at daybreak.

Meanwhile, the lowest temperature at the Pong Dueat Hot Spring was 15 degrees Celsius. At the Tha Pai Hot Spring it was 16 degrees.

Visitors arrived at the hot springs to wash their feet and even take a something like a bath under strict Covid-19 prevention measures, Bancha said.

Around 1,000 to 1,500 tourists have been visiting the area per day, he said, adding that 300 tourists were staying in houses and tents.

Bancha expected more tourists to arrive on December 31 and January 1 because of the long holiday and the fact that mountains with their cool-to-cold temperatures are more popular with tourists this year.

Moreover, national parks all over the country are open to visitors for free.

Park staff have prepared measures to prevent Covid-19 from spreading, controlling the number of tourists and managing an increase in traffic, Bancha added.
