Packaging business SCG announced its 2019 direction with key strategies to drive growth with more production bases in Asean and accelerating innovation and technology development to add value to products, services and the manufacturing process.

Tanawong Areeratchakul, president of SCG, said: “In the past year, packaging had to cope with price fluctuations of raw materials and fuel on top of the intense market competition. In the meantime, the widening growth in Asean yielded new opportunities for the packaging industry. In 2018 alone, the Asean packaging market value reached US$50.5 billion or a growth of 5 per cent while Thailand registered a rise of 3 per cent, parallel to the country’s economic growth. The market is expected to proliferate further primarily due to the changing demands for packaging, ie, increasing preference of sustainable, convenient and harmless-to-health products, while the focus of B2B clients centered around efficiency improvement and cost management. As a result, packaging developed key strategies to handle challenges and identify opportunities to ensure that SCG is ready and compatible with potential changes. To achieve the strategies, SCG is introducing a series of upgrades on manufacturing efficiency and competitiveness, quality improvement of products and services to better meet the customer needs.

“As a result of a consistently growing rate of the packaging industry, parallel with national economic growth, the market expansion in Thailand and Asean is projected to be similar to the previous year,” Tanawong said.

Thonburi Healthcare Group Plc officially opened its Ar Yu International Hospital in Yangon to increase the efficiency of integrated in-patient and out-patient services.

Within the first phase, the numbers of patients visiting the hospital had increased consistently heading to the Cardiology Centre, Emergency Department and Wellness Centre. The company is preparing to strengthen the hospital with Thailand’s specialist physicians to provide new alternative, expecting to attract more patients to the hospital for health advice instead of going to hospitals overseas.

Dr Tanatip Suppradit, vice chairman of the THG board, said the hospital plans to send physicians from Thailand to provide the treatment to Myanmar. The hospital aims to achieve the target of 300 out-patients per day and then to 600 out-patients this year.

“We see Myanmar as a potential country with a growing economy. However, the hospitals with international standards are not sufficient for the demands. At present, the Myanmar travels to Thailand for their health checkup and ongoing treatment. Therefore, we decided to enter the joint-venture to develop Ar Yu to serve Myanmar, tourists, and foreigners with skilful physicians and modern medical equipment as well as treatment and services of international standards as those of Thonburi Hospital in Thailand,” said Tanatip.

Community aims to prepare Thais for ageing

Breaking News March 21, 2019 17:04

By The Nation

Jin Wellbeing County, which describes itself as Thailand’s first residential district built for post-retirement life on 140 rai on Phahonyothin Road, has revealed tips for a healthy diet that will inject life into ageing bodies and make them ‘Glow As Jin.’

Together with simple activities that improve physical well-being for all ages, the county says it seeks to create a healthy balance between body, soul and spirit – a balance that serves as the heart of a long life well lived – and lead Thai senior citizens into the era of the ageing society with grace and joy. The county’s dedication to creating a “wellness district” goes beyond the ambition of any property development or wellness centre, and its integrative healthcare offerings extend beyond medical care to deliver tailor-made care that covers every aspect of living.

The residential facilities are designed to encourage active ageing living with universal convenience for everyone in the family and easy access to a full complement of lifestyle and wellness services. These features and more make Jin Wellbeing County a major wellness-oriented, mixed-use development.

Dr Kobkan Junhasavasdikul, chief medical officer of Jin Wellbeing County, said: “Senior citizens and those living the post-retirement life often see themselves as ageing people who lack the capacity to do what they used to be able to do. They may feel like a burden for the younger generations and grow concerned about their own ability to adapt. They may become desperate and depressed, leaving them vulnerable to all kinds of illnesses. Some of their physical ailments may, in fact, stem from a sickness of the mind.

“This requires a truly holistic treatment that does not only focus on the physical cause. Our ‘Glow as Jin’ concept is based on the fact that a balanced body, soul, and spirit will lead to sustainable healthy living. With every patient, our treatment begins with a conversation and some physical tests to determine their current condition.

“We then design diets, exercise routines, and various recreational activities that are tailor-made to match each person. Furthermore, we provide assistance in fortifying the mind against the concerns of ageing life, giving them the morale and sense of pride in living as well as full awareness of themselves. Through this, they will be able to take care of themselves appropriately and prevent such illnesses from recurring.”
