The event is held under the theme “Making a Difference: Shaping a New Learning Paradigm for a Sustainable Southeast Asia”. It will serve as a platform for 600 executives, educators and stakeholders to share perspectives on education agenda, innovative methods in teaching and applicable ideas in shaping a learning paradigm for the new generation.

During the opening ceremony, Education Minister Teerakiat Jareonsettasin will deliver the keynote address on “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy for the Achievements of Sustainable Development Goals through Education”.

Paper presentations and discussions by experts and researchers from various organisations will also be held seven sub-themes. They are Teachers Education and Lifelong Learning; Making Accessible and Inclusive Quality Education Happen; Enhancing Regional Competitiveness through STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) Education; Digital Learning in a Borderless World; Education in Emergencies and the Role of School Community; Bridging Skills Development for Global and Local Demands, and Strengthening Citizen Engagement in Education and Community Development.

Wansa Khiriarchadai, 26, an employee of the UNHCR shelter in Thasong Yang district in Tak, was attacked by the tusker while she rode on a motorcycle driven by her husband on the way to Mae Sot.

The husband, Boontham Chokthammakan, 31, told police that as they travelled along a road through Khun Khao Pawor National Park in Mae Ramat district, they encountered a herd of six elephants.

The elephants, startled by the sound of the motorcycle, then charged them. Boontham said he stopped and ran, but his wife, who ran in another direction, fell and was kicked by an elephant.

Article 5 previously had been written to authorise the Constitutional Court to convene the heads of key government agencies such as Parliament, the opposition party, and the Army chiefs to find a solution in the event of a stalemate.

In the latest revision earlier this year, it was revised back to the previous Article 7. Article 5 now states that in case no laws were applicable, the operation to resolve the issue should follow the traditional rule.

Abhisit said at a press briefing before Songkran that the convention of the Constitutional Court forming an ad hoc committee could be too inflexible and could only decide on legal issues.

Such a committee was rigid and impractical and could not possibly solve any conflict, he said.

He said the stipulation to follow the traditional rule was more open and could help better in resolving conflicts.

The resolving of a crisis depended more on the conflicting parties’ consensus, the Democrat leader said, adding the mechanism should be something flexible.

Apart from that, Abhisit said that in the past Article 7 did not work because the powers-that-be would not give up power to pave the way for conflict resolution.

He said the problem in politics lay in the behaviour and culture, adding that issues could only be resolved when people were willing to take some steps back. It was the only way to reduce social pressure and bring about solution, he said.

The People’s Party “Memorial Peg” (Mhud Khana Ratsadon), which was made of brass, has been replaced with a new one with different wording that says nothing about the 1932 revolution. The revolution changed the country’s ruling system from absolute monarchy to constitutional monarchy.

Srisuwan Janya, secretary-general of the Association for the Protection of the Constitution, on Friday issued a statement demanding that the new peg be removed and the original one reinstated immediately.

A Facebook page called Mhud Khana Ratsadorn alerted the public on Friday that the historical peg had been removed and replaced with a new one.

So far, no government agency has come forward to take responsibility for the action. Government agencies, including the Fine Arts Department, said they knew nothing about the change.

The wording of the original peg said: “Here, on June 24, 1932 at dawn, the Khana Rassadorn started a constitution for the progress of the country”.

But the new peg states: “May Siam country have sustainability and the people be happy to be the force of the land. The respect and love in the three gems and their own state, their family, and their loyalty towards their King will bring about progress of their state.”

Srisuwan said in the statement that a group of persons or an agency was trying to change the country’s history with the new peg.

He said the historical peg was once removed during the dictatorial regime of Field Marshal Sarit Thanarat who staged a coup in 1957, but it was later reinstated on the order of Parliament secretary-general Prasert Pattahamsukhon.

In the statement, Srisuwan said the change of the historical peg violated the law and Article 57 (1) of the new Constitution.

He said the government, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Interior Ministry and the Culture Ministry must take all steps to reinstate the historical peg.

Srisuwan warned that if no action were taken, the association would invoke Article 51 of the new charter to sue government agencies concerned.

Pasit’s condominium, which was still under her name, has also been confiscated pending investigation, Pol Lt General Sutin Sappuang, chief of Crime Suppression police, said yesterฌday after meeting AMLO officials at his office.

There had been rumours she had already transferred ownership of the condo to someone else.

The investigation has led police to believe that Pasit is the ringleader.

Police and AMLO would seek to seize more assets so that funds can eventually be returned to the victims as compensation, Sutin said.

“As of now, almost 400 people who fell victim to the scam have already filed complaints with police, seeking legal action against Pasit. More are expected to folฌlow suit,” he said.

Those living in the provinces could file complaints with tourism or regular police in their areas, he added.

More suspects are believed to be involved in the scam and police are collecting evidence to take out arrest warrants for them.

Pasit, the founder and chief execuฌtive of foodsupplement firm WealthEver, faces fraud charges after allegedly defrauding more than 1,000 people who were promised a threeday Songkran trip to Japan but were left stranded at Suvarnabhumi airport on Tuesday night.

Police arrested her in Ranong the next day after five of her relatives were taken in for questioning.

Pol Lt General Thitirat Nonghanpitak, from Central Investigation police, said a team of police and AMLO agents had been set up for Pasit’s case and would meet on Monday.

The police are from the crime, techฌnology and economic crime suppresฌsion, and tourism units.

A group of 10 “supporters” of Pasit gathered at the Institution for Female Offenders in Chatuchak district and encouraged her not to despair.

They told Pasit, who was transฌferred there from Crime Suppression headquarters, that they are gathering money to bail her out.

Nitisak Meekuat, Pasit’s lawyer, told reporters that Pasit was maintaining her innocence.

Her papers and property are being prepared for an application for bail but Pasit would remain in cusฌtody in the meantime, he said after paying his client an early morning visit before she was moved to the new detention centre.
