Mobile app Tik Tok, popular for sharing 15-second videos set to music, now features “Duet”, a function that lets users to occupy a split screen with a loved one, a celebrity or their clone.

Tik Tok videos are usually short performances – a song, a dance, a comedy bit or a demonstration of some other skill, often including cute 3D stickers and creative editing.

Duet opens up more possibilities for user creativity. Now you can dance with a pal or show someone else mirroring your original dance.

It’s also great for couple separated by distance, while pop stars can upload videos of themselves and invite their fans to join them onscreen.

Users can also duet with an existing duet video, creating potentially infinite duets that interact with each other.

Tik Tok already had duet videos, but they were always made using separate apps. Now everything you need is in one place, streamlining the process and making it much faster and more accessible.

You create a standard Tik Tok video by first choosing a soundtrack from the app’ music list, then recording, using a phone camera (the default is the front-facing selfie cam).

Then you edit the video with jump cuts and slow- or fast-motion effects, add visual filters or AI-powered 3D stickers, trim the video down to 15 seconds, and share with the world.

Duet follows the same process, but with an extra step at the start. To begin, you browse to an existing video and click the icon to share it. The duet option appears at the bottom of the screen. Select it and you see the shared video playing as you record and edit your own, timing it to match.

Finally, the two videos are combined into one, right side and left side, ready to share.

Ramathibodi Foundation under the Patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn recently launched the project “Happy Give Day… giving lives to millions on your birthday”.

The aim is to turn everyone’s birthday into a really special day by giving lives to millions others through purchasing birth-month souvenirs featuring works by 12 Thai artists. The proceeds from sales will be used to purchase medical equipment for Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute (CNMI), Ramathibodi Hospital.

Celebrities Taksaorn Paksukcharern, Ekkaphong Jongkesakorn and Chantavit Dhanasevi manned the foundation’s activity booths at the launch.

The project’s chairman, Prof Piyamitr Sritara, who is also the dean of the hospital’s medical faculty and serves as president of the Ramathibodi Foundation, said that the brand new Chakri Naruebodindra Medical Institute (CNMI) in Samut Prakan will go into full operation next month, with a service capacity of one million out-patients and 17,000 in-patients per year. CNMI has already opened out-patient clinics both during normal working hours and at special hours, emergency medicine, and some in-patient wards at the 460-bed Ramathibodi Chakri Naruebodindra hospital.

“We still need more than Bt14 billion to purchase such medical equipment as bronchoscopes and digital X-ray machines. This equipment is very important in providing the most effective medical service for the patients,” he said,

Punsiree Kunakornpaiboonsiri, managing director of the Ramathibodi Foundation, added that the foundation has been raising funds for the medical faculty for more than 50 years.

“This campaign takes inspiration from the Thai tradition of making a donation on their birthdays. The foundation invited 12 well-known artists to create drawings and turn them into souvenirs to be sold in their birth month on the theme ‘Giving is…Endless’ just like the kindness of Thais, which is also endless.”

This campaign opens the opportunity for everyone to be “Givers”.

Be a part of giving lives to millions others on your own birthday, or also on your family members’, friends, and loved ones.

Thai fans of Lego building blocks are in for a treat in July as BEC-Tero Entertainment brings the “Bricklive: Built for Lego Fans event to Bangkok.

“Bricklive: Built for LEGO Fans” will be the largest brick themed event ever held in Southeast Asia, boasting more than a million Lego bricks and covering an area of some 4,000 square metres. The event will also feature various creations and collections from some of Thailand’s biggest fan builders. Bricklive will take place from July 26 to 29 at the Plenary Hall, Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre.

The Bangkok stop on the international Bricklive tour offers an interactive experience, divided into zones allowing visitors to get their hands on a huge range and variety of different Lego elements, see rare collections, as well as getting a closer look at life-size models including tuk-tuks, ninjas, and the Krunk bear.

The world’s most popular toy has been an iconic source of entertainment for people of all ages for generations. It helps to enhance children’s physical and motor skills, as well as their emotional intelligence and the ability for them to stay focused, resulting in improved patience and creativity. The beloved bricks’ popularity spreads across generations and is loved by adults and children alike. The demand for bespoke creations and rare sets has seen a booming collectors market for this popular toy brand.

The chance to play with countless Lego bricks whilst admiring rare collections under one roof is an event not to be missed. The show is divided into zones starting with the Brick Pits Zone, featuring green, red, and Duplo bricks. Visitors can use the bricks to create their own works. The red and green pits consist of standard-size system bricks (2×4) while the Duplo pit consists of larger, easier-to-handle bricks for small children from 18 months to five years old. There are also several Lego themed Bricklive build zones featuring Star Wars, Ninjago, Friends and Minecraft bricks.

Other zones help visitors to improve their construction skills and learn about engineering principles. In the Race Track zone, bricks can be used to create your own cars and race against one another. You can also take a photo with brick-made trophies.

In the Technic Zone, challenge yourself with something more complicated with the option of using cogs as well as bricks to build your own cars. The Architecture Zone offers more than 1,000 white bricks for visitors to design and create buildings. The City Zone and Map Builds Zones allow you to build houses, cars, or whatever else you need to create your own functioning metropolis which can then be placed on a giant map of Thailand as if these cities are being created from scratch. For a different type of Lego creativity, the Graffiti Wall zone allows visitors to place brick designs on a wall to producing their own Lego street art.

Another exciting feature is the Fan Zone exhibiting the Lego collections of long-time collectors and builders, including rare and unseen sets. This zone will also be home to the amazing bespoke creations that have been built by Thai Lego builders.

Tickets are priced at Bt350 and Bt500. Each ticket comes with a souvenir and a cashback coupon to the value of Bt150.

Tickets are available at all ThaiTicketMajor outlets, or by calling (02) 262 3838.

An egg a day may keep the doctor away, study claims

For decades, experts warned that eating eggs raises levels of unhealthy cholesterol. But a study Tuesday said an egg a day may actually reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke.

While outside experts cautioned against reading too much into the study, its authors claimed that Chinese adults who ate an egg every day had a lower risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).

Studying half-a-million healthy adults aged 30-79 over almost nine years, researchers concluded that “compared with non-consumers, daily egg consumption was associated with lower risk of CVD.”

Risk of haemorrhagic stroke was 26 percent lower among egg-eaters, the Chinese-British research team reported in the journal Heart.

And daily egg consumption was associated with an 18-percent lower risk of death from CVD, and a 28-percent lower risk for death from haemorrhagic stroke.

CVD, a group of disorders of the heart and blood vessels, is the leading cause of death and disability worldwide, including in China.

According to the World Health Organization, about 17.7 million people die of CVDs each year, almost a third of all deaths worldwide.

Eighty percent of CVD deaths are caused by heart attacks and strokes.

Smoking, not exercising enough, and eating an unhealthy diet high in salt and low in fresh fruit and vegetables, increase the risk.

Chicken and egg

Eggs are rich in dietary cholesterol, long linked to a higher CVD risk, but also contain crucial protein and vitamins.

In the study group, 13 percent reported daily egg consumption, while nine percent said they never or hardly ever ate them.

By the end of the study period, almost 84,000 cases of CVD and 10,000 CVD deaths were recorded, and compared among the different egg-intake groups.

“The present study finds that there is an association between moderate level of egg consumption (up to 1 egg per day) and a lower cardiac event rate,” the authors concluded.

But experts not involved in the study, said the results fail to prove that eating eggs actively lowers CVD risk.

“An important limitation of this present study is that the people who consumed eggs regularly were much more affluent than those who avoided them,” University College of London nutrition specialist Tom Sanders said.

“Indeed, rates of stroke have been falling in Japan, Australia, North America and Europe for several decades for reasons that remain uncertain but may be related to increasing affluence,” he said via the Science Media Centre in London.

According to cardiology expert Gavin Sandercock of the University of Essex: “to say that eating eggs is good (or bad) for you based on a study like this would be foolish as diet is much more complicated than picking on one foodstuff like eggs.”

A second paper published in Heart found that people who commute to work by walking or cycling had a risk of heart disease and stroke 11 percent lower than those who take the car.

Their risk of dying from CVD diseases was almost a third lower, found the seven-year study of more than 350,000 people in Britain.

Thailand score 2nd win in Nations League

sports May 25, 2018 08:27

By FIVB

Macao – Thailand’s Chatchu-On Moksri’s 26 points helped her side deliver on the potential they had shown all week in registering a 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 16-14) win over Poland in second-round action at the 2018 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League.

It seemed at times the Thais just couldn’t find the points – or the luck – to roll Poland over but with wing spiker Chatchu-On’s confidence growing, and with support from Ajcharaporn Kongyot (16 points), they seized control of the tie-breaker and just wouldn’t let go.

When a Chatchu-On kill sealed the deal, the Thais’ leapt into each others’ arms and danced without a care in the world.

The loss would have hurt for Poland’s superstar Malwina Smarzek, who again led all concerned on court with 38 points. The spiker has been in sensational form in Macao, and a fourth set-winner that threatened to bounce out of the stadium was just one of any number of personal highlights in an effort that included four blocks.

But the young Thai squad’s efforts in Macao this week have won over the crowd and coach Danai Sriwacharamaytakul had them looking at all times to stretch the Polish blockers – and avoid Smarzek. That meant the ball was flying everywhere.

The Poles were worried by that movement in the first set and by the fourth had seemingly no real idea how to cope other then look to Smarzek – and hope.

The Thais meanwhile kept moving and when Sriwacharamaytakul took a time out at 11-9 in the last set he called for calm, and his players stuttered but eventually they delivered.

The loss marked Poland’s first 0-2 run in world level major tournament matches since they lost five in a row at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World Grand Prix. They’ll be now hoping to stop the rot. Quickly.

But Thursday night was all about this young Thai squad, whose only two previous victories over Poland had come at the 2008 and 2009 World Grand Prix – both times over five sets. It was also the first time in history they had ever taken a first set of the Poles.

The Thais moved to 2-4 after two rounds with their second victory in the VNL overall while Poland are on the same mark. Thais are at 12th in the standing.

Fulham, Villa clash in £160m promotion shoot-out

Fulham, Villa clash in £160m promotion shoot-out

sports May 25, 2018 08:18

Slavisa Jokanovic has challenged Fulham to “cross the magic line” as they bid to return to the Premier League by beating Aston Villa in the £160 million ($213 million) Championship final.

Jokanovic’s side hope to end their four-year exile from the top-flight, while Villa are looking to get back to among the elite two seasons after their relegation.

Whoever wins at Wembley on Saturday will bank a huge financial windfall, with the rise in revenue estimated at least £160 million across the next three seasons, which could rise to in excess of £280 million if they retain their Premier League status.

Reflecting the thirst for fame and fortune provided by success in English football, Fulham are controlled by American tycoon Shadid Khan and Villa by Chinese businessman Tony Xia.

But while the owners might be counting the cash, for players and fans it is the pride of competing with the best that offers the biggest incentive this weekend.

Fulham missed out on automatic promotion on the final day of the regular season despite a 23-match unbeaten run, but they bounced back to see off Derby in the play-off semi-finals.

Now Jokanovic is urging his players to finish the job as Fulham make their first appearance at Wembley since losing the 1975 FA Cup final against West Ham.

“I arrived here two and a half years ago fighting against relegation, we must try and make great steps, we have a great opportunity to bring this club back,” Jokanovic said.

“We are now at the front of an important chance. We are going to follow our style and be confident we will cross the line.

“There is a huge job ahead of myself. It is an opportunity for a side to be part of the best league in the world.

“That is a big motivation for us. Behind us is one great season but we can’t think about past games.

“We have one opportunity to cross the magic line. We are ready for everything.”

– Fear of failure –

No manager has won more promotions to the Premier League than Villa’s Steve Bruce, whose team is littered with players who have experience at the highest level, including former Chelsea and England defender John Terry.

In contrast, Fulham, who finished five points above Villa, are a young team driven by the precocious talent of 18-year-old wing-back Ryan Sessegnon.

“Villa have players who have experienced playing in this stadium,” said former Chelsea midfielder Jokanovic, who led Watford to promotion from the Championship in 2015.

“We are the youngest team, one with more energy, we believe in our style, we believe we can dominate the situation, we believe we can score the goals.”

Bruce was more cautious than Jokanovic, saying: “How can you call it? Fulham are favourites? They’re always wrong the bookies!

“It will be close. We are all looking forward to it.”

Villa were a consistent presence in the play-off places in the second half of the season and saw off Middlesbrough in the semi-finals.

Given his club’s size and history, Robert Snodgrass, who played in Hull’s Championship final victory against Sheffield Wednesday in 2016, believes a fear of failure could be a valuable motivating factor for Villa.

“I know some of the other lads have experienced it as well. That’s beauty of the play-offs, it’s the fear of losing that drives you forwards,” the Villa midfielder said.

“Everybody wants to be on the good end, the club have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to get back there.

“It’s very rare you get a second chance to get to your final destination.

“We fell short in the automatic places, we know now there’s no room for error.”

Moriya Jutanugarn, playing with new confidence since her maiden LPGA win last month, had six birdies in a six-under 66 on Thursday to join a four-way tie for the lead at the LPGA Volvik Championship.

Moriya, who had notched 11 top-10 finishes in 2017 before finally breaking through for her first win at the LA Open, missed just one fairway and hit 14 of 18 greens in regulation as she tied her low first-round score of 2018.

She was joined atop the leaderboard by Germany’s Caroline Masson and Americans Danielle Kang and Amy Olson.

“I feel is more relaxed now, and of course I like looking forward for my next one,” Moriya said of vying for a second career title.

“But I just want to set it as a goal and go back to what I have to do every day, every shot, and I think, it’s just more like starting over again.”

Moriya, whose younger sister Ariya won the weather-hit Kingsmill Championship on Sunday, said she’s been working hard on a simple, committed approach to her game.

“Pretty much you just hit the shot, go find the ball, hit another shot,” she said. “If you don’t make (the) putt, just go hit another putt.

“I had a lot of fun out there.”

Ariya meanwhile opened with a 69 after hitting six birdies against a double bogey and two bogeys.

Masson emerged with a share of the lead after an eventful round that included six birdies, an eagle and two bogeys.

She said improved putting was the key.

“I played well last week, and my ball-striking was really good and I was struggling a little bit with the putts. Just changed a couple things with my coach earlier this week and it seemed to work,” she said.

“So it was just nice to see a couple go in and played pretty solid overall.”

Masson and Moriya played in the same group. They teed off on 10 and both said they fed off the birdies that abounded.

Masson, seeking her first LPGA win since 2016, eagled the par-five 14th, where she rolled in a 30-footer.

“That was kind of the first really nice putt that I made today,” she said. “Sometimes it can really get you into a really good round, so it was fun to play like that.”

Kang, like Moriya, had six birdies without a bogey and Olson had seven birdies with just one bogey.

Japanese teenager Nasa Hataoka, who finished runner to Ariya in a playoff at the Kingsmill Championship, was among a group of seven players one shot off the pace on a crowded leaderboard.

She was joined by Australian Minjee Lee, England’s Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Americans Megan Khang, Jessica Korda, Lindy Duncan and Morgan Pressel.

Another half a dozen players were a further stroke back on 68.

Defending champion Feng Shanshan, seeking her first title of 2018, endured a tough bogey-bogey finish that dropped her to a tie for 104th, two-over par and eight shots off the lead.

HOSTS THAILAND clawed back from 2-1 behind to beat arch-rivals Indonesia 3-2 to reach the Uber Cup semi-finals for only the second time at the Impact Arena Muang Thong Thani yesterday.

The Thai team, whose best run in the tournament was a semi-final spot in 2012, fought back from two defeats in the doubles and singles rubbers to win the second doubles and third singles in front of 2,000 cheering fans at the arena.

World No 4 Ratchanok Intanon got Thailand off to a great start, using her superior all-court game to tame the 39th-ranked Fitriani Fitriani 39 21-8 21-7 in just 33 minutes.

Ratchanok Intanon

“Seeing so many fans coming out to support us really helped ease the pressure. Being drawn against Indonesia wasn’t what we wanted so we had no choice but to fight hard,” she said.

Indonesia hit back in the first women’s doubles match as world No 6 Greysia Polii and Apriyani Rahayu cemented their supremacy over world No 8 Jongkolphan Kititharakul and Rawinda Prajongjai 21-18 21-16 for a fourth straight win over the Thais.

Former world junior champion Gregoria Mariska Tunjung boosted Indonesia to 2-1 when she upset world No 11 Nitchaon Jindapol 21-10 22-20. It was sweet revenge for the 18-year-old, who lost in straight games to Nitchaon in January’s Thailand Masters.

Sapsiree and Puttita

However, Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai produced a spectacular performance to upset world No 11 Della Destiara Haris and Rizki Amelia Pradipta 22-20 21-12 and keep Thai hopes alive at 2-2.

Busanan Ongbamrungphan turned team heroine when she won the decisive rubber against the Ruselli Hartawan 21-9 21- 12.

“I’m so overwhelmed to win this crucial point for Thailand. There was so much pressure out there but I tried really hard to focus,” said Busanan.

“Once in a life time I got to play the Uber Cup in my home country, I feel really proud,” added Busanan.

Thailand will play defending champs China, who beat Denmark 3-1. “It will be tough against China but there’s nothing to lose,” said Busanan.

Ratchanok said: “I’m looking forward to play Chinese No 1 Chen Yufei and wish to have a revenge.” Ratchanon carries a poor 0-4 record with the Chinese.

Elsewhere, third seeds South Korea beat Canada 3-1 and will play top seeds Japan who beat Taiwan (3-1).

Jazz and Carballo share clubhouse lead at Betagro Championship

Nakhon Pathom –   Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond and Argentina’s Miguel Carballo shared the first-round clubhouse lead on seven-under-par 65 at the weather-hit Betagro Championship on Thursday.

The in-form Argentinian mixed his card with one eagle, six birdies and one bogey to move atop the predominantly Thai dominated leaderboard at the Suwan Golf and Country Club.

Finland’s Janne Kaske, was the only other international player in the top-10, along with ADT winners Nattawat Suvajanakorn and Chanachok Dejpiratanamongkol. They were among nine players tied in third place at the Bt3,000,000 (approx. US$96,000) Asian Development Tour (ADT) event.

Thailand’s Sorachut Hansapiban stole the spotlight when he aced the 12th hole with a seven-iron from 155 yards.

Round one was suspended due to lightning threats at 10.40am local time but resumed at 12.15pm local time. The delay led to the suspension of play at 6.35pm due to fading light with a total of 21 players returning to complete their rounds tomorrow.

Jazz, who missed only one fairway, traded eight birdies against a lone bogey after misjudging the direction of the wind which pushed his approach shot to the greenside bunker on the fourth hole.

“I thought it was headwind when I was standing over the ball so I clubbed up on my approach, but the wind was actually right-to-left so I ended up missing the green and missed my up-and-down for par. The wind was tricky today but I still played really well,” said the 22-year-old Jazz.

“Hole 14 was the highlight of my round when I hit a bad drive that landed in the trees. But I hit a huge cut with my 3-wood that landed just 10-feet from the hole. I played a lot of different shots today because I was confident in my swing and I knew I could be aggressive,” added the Asian Tour winner.

The 39-year-old Carballo, who has had four top-10 finishes on the ADT and finished tied-fifth in his second start on the Asian Tour last week, credited his low round to a solid iron game which led to only two missed greens in regulation.

“I am hitting my driver and irons very well this week. The course isn’t too long for me so I took out my driver whenever I could and I only had to hit shorter irons into the greens to give myself birdie chances,” said Carballo who negotiated his way around the greens in 26 putts.

“My game has been pretty solid this season other than when I missed the cut in Bangladesh in my first start on the Asian Tour. I worked on my short game that weekend and did well in China the week after. The course is beautiful, it is my second time back in Thailand since (Asian Tour) Qualifying School. I am just enjoying my game and that’s why I played well,” added the Argentinian.

The Betagro Championship is the ninth leg on the ADT 2018 schedule and is jointly sanctioned by the All Thailand Golf Tour and the ADT. Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) points are offered on all ADT events with the winner earning a total of six OWGR points while the top-six players and ties earn points on a sliding scale.

The leading five players on the ADT Order of Merit at the end of the season will earn playing rights on the Asian Tour for the 2019 season.

Ends.

Leading round one scores:
