Daikin launches Daikin ZETAS to welcome the summer with streamer technology to eliminate virus, bacteria, fungus and unpleasant odor for clean air

Mr. Sarawut Tempattarasak, Corporate Planning Assistant General Manager of Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd., the world’s leader in air conditioning technology, announced the launch of Daikin air conditioner latest model, ZETAS, that comes equipped with Daikin’s patented streamer technology which helps eliminate virus, bacteria, fungus, allergens and various harmful gases in the air. Daikin ZETAS hit the market in March 2021.

Daikin launches Daikin ZETAS to welcome the summer with streamer technology to eliminate virus, bacteria, fungus and unpleasant odor for clean air

For the time, streamer technology emits high-speed electrons that can deactivate SARS-CoV-2 and MHV-A59 by 99.9% – the test result was confirmed by Tokyo University and Okayama University in Japan on 16 July 2020.

The patented technology that is featured in Daikin ZETAS harnesses 3C innovations: Clean Air, Comfort Room and Convenient Control, that bring cool, comfortable air with user-friendly control via smartphone.

The Clean Air innovation comes with Air Purifying Mode. The streamer technology emits high-speed electron that help decompose germs and harmful matters. Efficiency tests by leading institutions in and outside of Japan since 2014 reveal that streamer can deactivate virus, fungus, bacteria, allergens and 60 kinds of harmful gasses, hence reduces germs and unpleasant odor to generate clean, pure air.

The model also has upgraded Mold Proof Function that better prevents moldy odor fungus. The automatic cleaning feature creates water from condensation to clean the fan coil then rids the moisture with blowing wind infused with streamer’s electrons to deactivate remaining germs in the air conditioner unit. The latest filter not only effectively filters PM2.5 dust but also virus, bacteria, unpleasant odor and allergens with Enzyme Blue technology that is proven to deactivate 99% of germs.

The Comfort Room innovation delivers cool and comfortable air with Hybrid Cooling technology that automatically keeps humidity level to 50-60% RH, which is scientifically proven to be the most suitable humidity level for Thai consumers, allowing for comfortable, light and pleasant feeling.

The last innovation, Convenient Control, is powered by built-in wi-fi adaptor that allows for easy control anytime from anywhere via Daikin Mobile Controller application on smartphone.

Mr. Sarawut added that Daikin ZETAS’s swing compressor also helps save energy, hence save electricity expenses. The fitted Super PCB PRO Inverter circuit board is also extra durable, and it helps protect the air conditioner unit damage from drop in voltage and power surge, allowing the unit to continue operating at as low as 130 volts and no damage through 440 volts of power surge. The board is also coated with dust-free, humidity-free and pest-free surface, and comes with 3-year warranty for this part.

Daikin ZETAS FTKZ09/12VV2S also comes with Intelligent Eye that maximizes comfort with automatic human movement detection, allowing for specific air flow or comfort airflow. Every BTU capacity of the model comes equipped with motion censor to save energy. The smart technology increases room temperature by 2 degrees Celsius when  no human movement and reverts to the pre-set temperature when motion is detected.

Daikin ZETAS condensing unit is also pest-proofing. Small animal, such as house lizards, can cause serious damage to the circuit board, especially for residential areas upcountry. The newly improved condensing units either have smaller than 4mm access to the circuit board or are paved with proofing stickers (for slots wider than 4mm) to minimize possible damage from pest and prolong service life of the product.

Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd. signs MOU with King Mongkuts University of Technology Thonburi to verify the efficiency of Daikin ZETAS’s streamer technology in reducing viruses and bacteria to generate pure, clean air

Mr. Akihisa Yokoyama, President of Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd., the world’s leader in air conditioning technology, reveals that the firm has signed an MOU with the Environment Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering of King Mongkuts University of Technology Thonburi, to test and verify the efficiency of Daikin’s patented Streamer technology that is designed to intercept virus, bacteria, fungus,  allergens and other harmful gases to create pure, clean air and strengthen Daikin’s position as the world’s leader in air conditioning technology.

Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd. signs MOU with King Mongkuts University of Technology Thonburi to verify the efficiency of Daikin ZETAS’s streamer technology in reducing viruses and bacteria to generate pure, clean air

The efficiency test was done to Daikin’s latest model, ZETAS which was launched in March 2021, to verify the imbedded streamer technology’s capability in reducing bacteria and eliminating unpleasant odor from within the air conditioner unit.

The streamer technology has been developed by Daikin Industries (Japan). In 2004, the technology was launched in the market with its highlight feature, the streamer discharge, that is capable of dissolving harmful substances in the air.

Streamer discharge is an air purifying technology that creates stable high-speed electrons – a technology that was hard to achieve at that time. Streamer’s ability to decompose matters with oxidation is higher than glow discharge. Moreover, when combined with the air’s molecule, these high-speed electrons can decompose matters with oxidation, allowing streamers to eliminate unpleasant orders, bacteria, and pollutants such as formaldehyde continuously and effectively.

Asst. Professor Dr. Prapat Pongkiatkul and the research team from the Environment Engineering Department, Faculty of Engineering of King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi tested the efficiency of streamer technology in Daikin ZETAS with bacteria sample collected from the fan coil unit and the drain tray of the air conditioner unit with unpleasant odor from a residential area in Thailand.

The bacteria sample was cultured and then embedded in a Daikin ZETAS, which was placed in an environment simulated from consumer’s household. The test confirms that streamer technology in Daikin ZETAS can deactivate 75%-99.96% of bacteria and fungus in the air conditioning unit within the first 8 hours of use. Daikin ZETAS can deactivate 99.9% of bacteria and fungus within the fourth day of use.

Mr. Akihisa Yokoyama says that the test result verifies streamer technology’s efficiency in Daikin ZETAS that it can help reduce unpleasant odor of air conditioner unit that is caused by bacteria and fungus. This technology sets a new benchmark for household air conditioner and strengthens Daikin’s philosophy of not only cooling down the temperature but also perfecting the air.

The MOU between Siam Daikin Sales Co., Ltd. and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi elevates that standard of air conditioner industry and inspires manufacturers to further develop technologies to the new height and deliver quality products with advanced technology to the consumers.

Thai Ambassador Vosita Vorasaph recently hosted Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) chief Dhananjay Regmi at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kathmandu for talks on promoting post-Covid-19 tourism between the two countries.

The growing number of Thai tourists in Nepal has prompted the NTB to offer tour packages for Thai trekkers, mountaineers and pilgrims.

Regmi expressed excitement about the new international airport opening soon in Lumbini, with plans to offer travellers more direct flights to Nepal.

Lumbini is the Buddha’s birthplace and one of several pilgrimage sites in Nepal.

Regmi also expressed gratitude to the Thai government for building Buddhist monasteries that had drawn more pilgrims to Nepal.

Thai travellers will soon find it easier to visit the Buddha’s birthplace, thanks to new tourism cooperation between Nepal and Thailand.

The primary goal of Nepal’s plans for tourism collaboration is to develop marketing focused on Thai Buddhist pilgrims and mountain lovers.

Ambassador Vosita welcomed the push to strengthen Nepal’s long-lasting relationship with Thailand. He said he would liaise with the Tourism Authority of Thailand to help promote the campaign targeted at Thai travellers and Nepalis in Thailand.

Having experienced Nepal’s tourism riches himself, Vosita also suggested promoting lesser-known destinations and activities in Nepal like Chitwan, Chandragiri, Gokyo Lake, Bhaktapur Durbar Square, and helicopter rides to Namche.

Bangkok, (19 April 2021), JKN’s chief executive officer, Jakkaphong “Anne” Jakrajutatip, said the company is now ASEAN’s leading content manager and distributor via satellite TV, digital TV, and online platforms.

She said the achievement resulted from the board’s expertise and its ‘superstar marketing’ strategy, which allows the company to curate content that meets the customers’ needs.

“Korean, Indian and Filipino series fever has emerged in Thailand due to our many years of experience in content management and distribution,” says Anne Jakrajutatip, CEO of JKN Global Media PLC.  “As JKN is a content company with high growth potential, the company was listed on the Stock Exchange of Thailand on November 12 last year to allow more institutional and retail investors to invest in the company’s share and witness the company’s growth together,” she added.

To promote JKN as a content and commerce company to maintain sustainable growth, she said the company had launched health and beauty products such as C-TRIA, Olig Fiber, V-Allin, Hair Now and Instinct by Anne JKN.

“To achieve a quantum leap in sales, we use ‘superstar marketing’ strategy by hiring celebrities to be presenters of our products,” she said.

“In addition, Herbal Drinks under Cupid brand, such as Dragon X and Tiger X, are expected to be launched within this month.”

She added that more than ten dietary supplements and drinks with hemp extract are currently under development with DOD Biotech.

“We are seeking more partners to develop products with hemp extract in a bid to meet customers’ needs,” she added.

She said JKN had acquired DN Broadcast’s NEW18 digital TV channel, whose name will be changed to JKN18 to expand its customer base and boost its commerce business’s growth in line with the new normal.

“With quality product innovation, JKN18 channel, and superstar marketing strategy, we have confidence that our commerce business will enable the company to achieve our ambitious sales growth,” she added.

He added that JKN is currently restructuring the organization to boost sales and gross profit margin for the long term.

“The company aims to generate over THB5 billion revenue within three years. The company’s revenue this year is expected to hit THB2.5 billion, of which THB2 billion will be from content business and THB500 million from commerce business,” Teeraphat Petporee added.

Huawei ‘can survive US sanctions’ – but won’t be building self-driving cars

Apr 19. 2021

Eric Xu

By The Nation

Chinese tech titan Huawei unveiled five strategic initiatives for the post-Covid world at its 18th Global Analyst Summit, held recently in Shenzhen.

Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to getting everyone in Asia-Pacific online but said it won’t follow tech giants like Google by making its own cars.

The company’s five strategy initiatives are:

1. To optimise its portfolio to boost resilience by strengthening its software capabilities and investing more in businesses that are less reliant on advanced process techniques, as well as in components for intelligent vehicles.

2. Maximise 5G value and define 5.5G with industry peers to drive the evolution of mobile communications.

3. Provide a seamless, user-centric, and intelligent experience across all user scenarios.

4. Innovate to reduce energy consumption for a low-carbon world.

5. Address supply continuity challenges.

Huawei also responded to the ongoing global shortage of microchips and semiconductors used to build them.

“Rebuilding trust and restoring collaboration across the global semiconductor supply chain is crucial to bringing the industry back on track,” said Eric Xu, Huawei’s chairman.

The shortage has heightened trade tensions with the United States, which accuses China of stockpiling product and preventing its export.

Asked about Huawei’s strategy to survive under US sanctions, Xu said the company remained confident and determined to continue working with global customers and partners to address supply challenges.

Any chipmaker reliant on American technology cannot sell to Huawei without being penalised by US authorities.

Xu said Huawei will manage its existing inventory to sustain it for longer, which meant “taking a more focused approach as we work with different regions and customers”.

The company had no hope of being removed from the US sanctions list in the short term, he added.

Huawei also reaffirmed its strategy to help others build self-driving cars with its tech expertise, rather than building cars itself. Huawei has partnered with three Chinese carmakers – Beijing New Energy Automobile, Chongqing Chang’an and Guangzhou Automobile Group.

Also underlined was the company’s push to bring digital to every person, home and organisation in the Asia Pacific region.

Xu said Huawei business growth had remained stable amid the Covid-induced economic crisis, with revenue growing 3.8 per cent and net profits increasing 3.2 per cent. The company’s strategy last year was to stockpile in bulk, so its operating cash flow was 35.2 billion yuan, which was also in line with its forecasts.

Coping with corporate challenges amid uncertainties

Apr 11. 2021

By THE NATION

Krungsri has launched “The Change Master”, a television programme, to cope with disruption and uncertainty.

The initiative under Krungsri Business Empowerment aims to provide knowledge, perspectives, and inspiration to entrepreneurs, and airs on Business Watch, TNN 16 Channel, this month.

Krungsri collaborated with four CEOs from four leading Thai organisations to share their experiences in leadership during a crisis in order to empower customers and entrepreneurs to make a change, welcome disruption and uncertainty.

Each of the four leaders gave important lessons on how to “manage business durinv uncertainty”.

Prasit Boondoungprasert, chief executive officer of Charoen Pokphand Foods Pcl, suggested that “in crisis, we must shift to high-speed mode; otherwise problems will not be fixed in time”. What is a high-speed way of operation?

“The end game must be set, we have to ask, if we want to achieve this kind of success, which direction we should take and how to solve problems. Moreover, frontline workers must be given more authority to make decisions, and the steps in approval process must be reduced to enable prompt response to customers,” he said.

“We are also trying to look for opportunities, for example, during the Covid-19 situation, we visited our export partner countries to see how they were affected.

What happened was we had the opportunity to export thousands of tons of chicken meat to Singapore, which led to a bigger project that would help the supply chain in Singapore by providing food safety.

“CP’s plant in Wuhan was chosen by the government to be the sole food supplier for the province, leading to learning and acquisition of logistics knowledge.

“The situation also caused employees of all generations to adapt to IT, resulting in faster operations, decrease in expenditure, use of AI in connection with production process, eg, voice technology in pork quality checking and camera-based chicken weighing system.

“The idea was that everyone should select technologies and approaches suitable for each of their business.

Thai team makes it Microsoft’s Imagine Cup finals

Apr 05. 2021

By THE NATION

Microsoft Corp on Monday announced the top four finalists of its 2021 Imagine Cup competition, with Thailand’s Team Threeotech emerging top in the Lifestyle category.

This was after an exciting two rounds of semi-finals at which the 12 shortlisted teams provided a three-minute project pitch followed by a Q&A session with judges to compete for a win in the World Championships in May.

This year’s Imagine Cup virtual competition saw teams from 163 countries using innovative technologies like AI, Power Platform and Big Data to develop their ideas into impactful technological solutions that make a difference.

The finalists had to submit innovations that could be applied in one of the four categories, namely Earth, Education, Healthcare and Lifestyle.

The four finalists impressed the judges with their innovative ideas, pushing the envelope on improving society as well as creating a brighter, more inclusive future.

Thailand’s Team Threeotech came up with “JustSigns”, a web application for content creators to create sign language captions to improve media accessibility for their hearing-impaired viewers.

In the Earth category, New Zealand’s Team ProTag created “ProTag”, a smart ear tag for livestock that uses technologies like mixed reality, IoT and Azure to detect the early onset of illness in real-time. This is part of efforts to inculcate sustainable farming, lower costs and increase animal welfare along with providing farmers with peace of mind.

Both these teams will be competing against a team each from Kenya and from the United States for the Imagine Cup trophy, a US$75,000 cash prize and a mentoring session with Microsoft Corp’s chief executive officer Satya Nadella.

Other teams from Asia that participated in the semi-finals are:

Team Intelli-Sense (India): Under the Healthcare category, the team developed “Vision” – an app that gives the visually impaired a “sense of vision” by helping them perceive their surrounding in real-time.

Team DataMasker (China): Under the Lifestyle category, the team came up with “WellMask”, an AI “mask” built to enhance social interaction by supporting “real-time speech transcription”, “intention extraction” and “emotion recognition”.

Team Virtual Radiologist (Nepal): Under the Earth category, the team came up with “Pico Sat”, a miniature version of an environmental satellite that utilises the Azure platform and PowerBI. It aims to provide information about your environment – altitude, temperature, humidity, pressure, dust and pressure level of the present time – be it a small room or open space.

Held annually since 2003, the Microsoft Imagine Cup is the world’s top student technology competition. This year’s contest encouraged participants to “Dream It. Build It. Live It” and create applications that shape how individuals live, work and play.

Sunny beaches top choice of Thais heading for Songkran holidays

Apr 03. 2021

By THE NATION

Thais are on the move this Songkran, heading to beach destinations and choosing higher-end hotels to celebrate the upcoming Songkran holidays, according to data from digital travel platform, Agoda.

Coastal destinations have taken seven of the top 10 spots, with Phuket the most-booked destination spot during 2021 Songkran, jumping to No. 1 from fourth in 2019, and knocking Pattaya off the top into second place, according to Agoda.

Other beach destinations that dominate the 2021 list include Hua Hin/Cha-am (No. 3), Krabi (4), Koh Samui (5), Khao Lak (6) and Koh Chang (9). Bangkok dips to seventh spot from second in 2019.

With international travel off the table, Koh Samui (5), Khao Lak (6), Koh Chang (9), Khao Yai (10) make it in the top 10 this year, ahead of Tokyo, Rayong, Kanchanaburi and Chonburi.

“Travellers this year are also looking to pamper themselves, opting for 4–5-star hotels, a change from 2019’s preference for 1-3.5-star hotels,” said Timothy Hughes, vice president corporate development, Agoda.

“Songkran marks the beginning of the Thai New Year. Recovering from two periods of Covid-19-imposed lockdown, Thais are being a little more indulgent rewarding themselves and their loved ones with upgraded stays to 4-5 star properties. Phuket, Pattaya, and Hua Hin/Cha-am lead the top destinations this year. But domestic travellers are also choosing destinations once deemed crowded with international tourists such as Koh Samui, Hughes said.

“We are also seeing a big pick up in popularity of lesser-known beach destinations like Koh Chang,” Hughes added.
