The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) on Wednesday signed contracts with three consultant consortiums to hire them to supervise the construction of the south Purple Line electric train project.
MRTA governor Pakapong Sirikantaramas signed the contracts to hire the three consortiums for THB2.6 billion to supervise the construction of the southern section of the Purple Line from Taopoon to Ratburana.
The MRTA signed the contract with five companies as Project Management and Construction Supervision Consultant 1 (PMCSC1) valued at THB1.09 billion.
The companies in the PMCSC1 are MAA Consultant Co Ltd, Index International Group Plc, PSK Consultant Co Ltd, PPSN Co Ltd and C Consult Engineering Co Ltd.
For Project Mangement and Construction Supervision Consultant 2 (PMCSC2), it signed a contract with six companies for a total of THB959.458 million.
The six companies under the PMCSC2 contract are Asian Engineering Consultant Co Ltd, Tesco Co Ltd, Utilities Design Consultant Co Ltd, IT International Co Ltd, Project Planning Services Plc and Integrated Engineering Co Ltd.
The MRTA also signed contracts with three companies hiring them as Project Management and Construction Supervision Consultant 3 (PMCSC3) for THB561.043 million.
The PMCSC3 companies are Chote Jinda Consultant Co Ltd, Wisit Engineering Consultant Co Ltd and IT International Co Ltd.
The three consortiums are required to supervise and manage the construction of the section to be done as per the contracts between the MRTA and the construction contractors.
The three consortiums also signed the Integrity Pact with the MRTA to ensure transparency in the construction of the project.
Pakapong said the three consortiums are ready to start operations right away and the MRTA has already sent notice to proceed (NTP) to the six contractors of the project on April 25. The constructions will start this month to be completed in 2027.
Pakapong added that the committee in charge of hiring consultants has so far failed to select a winner as the Project Implement Consultant, as no firm has met the technical requirements.

He took on the role of General Manager of Marketing Department in RCL since 2015. In 2018, he held the position of Senior Vice President (Chief of Regions and Business Development). In his seven years of experience, he was involved in administrative task and management work. Mr Twinchok has expanded the fleet deployment and increased the number of vessels, including enhancing plans and operating procedures to cope with the volatile market situation. He also led the team to develop the company’s effective operating system by launching robotics technology, data management and analytics and leveraging technology to achieve better efficiency in cost management and to enable employees to handle more important and complex tasks.
In view of his vast experience, the Board of Directors has assigned Mr Twinchok, the new President, to implement the business strategy plans, including the increase in fleet efficiency to match international standard. He said Nation Group will adhere to its ideology and perform its duties as a media outlet with responsibilty towards society and the country.
“Once the transactions are completed, Nation Group will be strong financially and ready to expand the business further,” he said.
The first lot of four vehicles under City Transit E-Buses project have been delivered to Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA) on Tuesday (May 31) at BMTA head office in Bangkok’s Huay Kwang district.
The project is a cooperation among BMTA, National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) to transform decommissioned BMTA buses into electric buses using up to 40 per cent of domestic parts. The modification has been carried out by Choknamchai Hi-Tech Pressing Ltd under the supervision of NSTDA.
Dr Phatcharinruja Juntharonanon, advisor to the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation presided over the delivery ceremony on Tuesday, whereas NTSDA director Dr Narong Sirilertworakul and MEA deputy governor Phattra Suwandet also joined the ceremony.
After the delivery, the ceremony participants witnessed the demonstration of E-buses, which can travel up to 250 km. per charge cycle, while each charge cycle will take around 2-3 hours to complete. The bus’s body has been made of aluminum to reduce weight and maximize power efficiency.
The City Transit E-Buses project aims to fulfill the government’s policy in promoting BCG (Bio-Circular-Green) economy and reduce the emissions of greenhouse gases and other air pollution, including the PM2.5 dust particles. It will also pave the way for Thai automakers in manufacturing electric vehicles with domestically sourced components.
For over a decade, Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) has been preparing the infrastructure to support the widespread use of electric vehicles that will soon replace the internal combustion engines. MEA has installed 24 EV charging stations in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan and aims to achieve the target of 100 stations within this year at convenient locations such as Chaeng Watthana Government Complex, Benchakitti Park, MEA branch offices and police stations. MEA’s EV charging stations are linked with MEA EV application to help users locate the nearest stations with ease.

Shine Bunnag has stepped down as Nation Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) CEO to work on combining the Nation Group’s eight media outlets in line with the One Nation policy.
The new strategy will connect Krungthep Turakij, Kom Chad Luek, Nation Thai News, Nation TV 22, The Nation Thailand, The People, Khob Sanam and Spring Online.
NBC director Asst Prof Dr Samart Deephijarn has taken over from Shine as of Monday, the company’s report to the Stock Exchange of Thailand said.
At a meeting on April 29, shareholders approved the sale of 691.03 million or 61.46 per cent stake held by Nation Group in NBC to Nattapong Sitaworarat and Boon-ua Jitthanom for 898.34 million baht. These transactions are expected to be completed by July.
The shareholders also approved the Nation Group’s purchase of 85.99 million shares, equivalent to 99.99 per cent of registered shares, of NBC Next Vision (NNV) at 2.79 baht each from NBC. The stake will cost the company 239.72 million baht.
On April 29, NBC shareholders also approved the sale of NNV shares to Nation Group. NNV is an owner of Nation TV 22, which also holds a 60 per cent stake in Nation Coffee.
Shine, who is also CEO of Nation Group, said these moves are important steps towards the company’s new landscape along with maintaining its reputation as a fair and responsible media outlet. He said adhering to this ideology was important, especially since The Nation turns 51 on July 1.
“Once transactions are completed, Nation Group will be strong financially and ready to expand the business further,” he said.

Innobic (Asia) Co Ltd, a subsidiary of national oil and gas conglomerate PTT Plc which it co-owns with Aztiq HK Ltd, recently acquired Alvogen Emerging Markets Holdings Ltd (AEMH), a major shareholder of Lotus Pharmaceutical Ltd and the sole owner of Adalvo Ltd.

Under the US$475 million (THB16.46 billion) acquisition deal, Innobic became the largest shareholder of Lotus Pharmaceutical with a 37 per cent stake, and of Adalvo with a 60 per cent stake. The acquisition aims to increase the strength of both Lotus Pharmaceutical and Adalvo as world leaders in pharmaceutical and patent trading industries, as well as increase Thailand’s accessibility to drugs of international standard.
Buranin Rattanasombat, chairman of Innobic and senior executive vice president for innovation and new ventures at PTT, said that Aztiq has a long-established presence in healthcare and drug manufacturing, which will help drive the businesses of Lotus Pharmaceutical and Adalvo forward and enable Innobic to manufacture high-quality drugs at affordable prices.
“Thailand’s drug market has an approximate value of THB200 billion to THB250 billion per year with continuous average annual growth of 3-5 per cent,” he said. “Although the sales of drugs for communicable diseases are greater than that for NCD [non-communicable diseases], the market for NCD drugs is gaining momentum as Thailand is entering an ageing society. Furthermore, in the future, local drug factories will be required to implement GMP [good manufacturing practice] standards, which will prompt them to seek higher technology,” he pointed out. “The acquisition will therefore help increase the country’s capacity in manufacturing affordable drugs using internationally recognised technology, especially for NCDs such as cancer and diabetes. This will also expand our market penetration capability at the regional level, as Asean nations are also entering an ageing society.”
“Having a partnership with Lotus Pharmaceutical will enable Innobic to receive knowledge transfer of world-class drug manufacturing techniques, as Lotus Pharmaceutical has been manufacturing drugs for not only Asian countries, but also for the European and American markets that require higher pharmaceutical standards,” added Buranin.
After the acquisition, Lotus Pharmaceutical will serve as Innobic’s main manufacturing base, while Adalvo will be responsible for trading of drugs and related patents through its global network. This partnership will put Innobic at the forefront of global drug manufacturing companies in a short time while being backed by a comprehensive sales network and growth opportunities in Asian, European and American markets.
“We hope that the partnership will boost our expertise in the pharmaceutical industry, especially in biosimilar drugs which are a new innovation that require modern supporting technology,” said Buranin. “Thailand has several capable medical professionals, but to spearhead our researches in the global market we will need a strong coach and partner with comprehensive manufacturing, researching, and marketing network. With this acquisition, Innobic aims to become the country’s leader in the Life Science industry, which is one of the 10 target industries under the government’s Thailand 4.0 policy. We will also continue to invest in medical-related technology, including research and development in the field of molecular genome, mutation, and medical equipment.”
