British luxury fashion house DAKS makes it debut in Thailand recently with the launch of its first store and a special collection that marks its 125th anniversary. Brought to the country by ICC International, the store marked its arrival with a fashion show presented by Teeradetch “Alek” Metawarayut and Kannarun “Prang” Wongkajornklai, an exclusive exhibition and a live painting show by world-renowned artist Takeshi Sato.

The exhibition portrayed the brand’s 125 years of history, from its birth in1894 in London, its close ties to the British Royal Family and its constant innovations over the years to remain relevant. Also on show was “I am Charles”, a hand-made teddy bear a massive 1.5m high.

The “125th DAKS Anniversary Check” collection is centred on the architecture of the Royal Albert Hall in London and underlines the brand’s expertise in design, use of colour, texture, and details, reflecting British elegance. Designs and colours, namely purple, brown, acid green and grey, are inspired gy British writers and their most important works: “The Moon and Sixpence” by William Somerset Maugham, “The Remains of the Day”, written in 1989 by Nobel prize winner Kazuo Ishiguro, and “Pygmalion by George” Bernard Shaw.

New-look Cartier boutique at Iconsiam embraces Thai architectural elements

Renowned brand Cartier is celebrating the first anniversary of its Iconsiam boutique with a new look that blends Thai elements with the company’s style.

The luxury French jewellery and watches brand has given its Chao Phraya riverside boutique a design amelioration, with a local touch of contemporary Thai architecture with the luxury of Cartier.

The design marries elements of Thai architecture based on inspirations drawn from local beliefs and Thai ways of life. “The result is a boutique filled with contemporary Thai ambience and the magnificence of Cartier,” the company said.

The walls of the VIP Room are inspired by wood gasket of traditional house in the Central Region of Thailand. Teak panels are interlocked with each other and therefore the house is built without using any nails.

Teak wood is here represented by environmentally friendly recycled leather strips woven with recycled polyester yarn from PET bottles collected from beaches in Thailand.

Another highlight wall within the newly redesigned boutique is clad with ornamental braids inspired by fabrics popular in Thailand since Ayutthaya Kingdom during 1350 to 1767 AD. The fabrics woven from precious metal threads such as gold and silver were once only strictly used in court textiles.

In addition to a beautiful blend, this boutique is noted for its furnishing and decorative items. Among them is a cabinet inspired by the gold lacquer book cabinet during the reign of King Mongkut and King Chulalongkorn — a period of Thai modernisation that saw children of the kings educated in Europe and strong relationships built with European countries.

The book cabinet reflects the change and development education brought to the Kingdom during the time and their effects on present day Thailand.

There are also vases inspired by ancient beads, brassware with crumpled gold texture that looks like gilded gold leaves applied by Buddhist Thais on Buddha images, a sculpture that resembles chor fah gable apex, beautiful cut-glass lamps, a replica of old-styled balustrades, lotus-shaped chandeliers, arched doorways inspired by those found in temples, and use of Thai silk as furniture upholstery and wall cladding.

From the exterior, Cartier Boutique at Iconsiam stands out with an external façade inspired by facets of diamond, making an allusion to the brand’s expertise in jewellery which was once admired by King Edward VII of England who announced that Cartier is “the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers”.

Iconsiam boutique boasts a spacious area of more than 300 square metres and is one of the brand’s first 10 boutiques worldwide to create such décor styles that subtly embrace local architecture.

Chinese actress Dilraba Dilmurat, who usually goes just by the name Dilraba, has been confirmed as the brand ambassador in Asia for world-renowned Japanese pearl jeweller Mikimoto for the second year, the company said this week.

Founded by Kokichi Mikimoto, who is credited with creating the first cultured pearl, the company has dedicated itself for the last 125 years to realising Mikimoto’s dream of adorning the necks of all women with pearls and making it possible for women all over the world to experience their timeless elegance.

Dilraba, who is heading up the new #FindYourPearl campaign, has a positive personality that embodies the brand’s image. The campaign itself is inspired by the idea of the “Jeux de Rubans” collection – decorative yet luxurious ribbons of pearls transformed into the luxurious and timeless jewellery design. The necklace and earrings from the collection is designed with Japanese Akoya Cultured Pearls and sparkling diamonds, with the ribbon-styled diamond clasp the main feature of the design, allowing for multiple styling.

In the release photo, Dilraba is seen wearing a piece from the Les Pétales Place Vendôme collection.

This latest series of the popular bags is inspired by the marks that tyres leave on the road and combines the letters “B”, “A” and “O” on the sawtooth streaks in 3 bright colors: Black Mix, Mix Beige and Multicolor.

The bucket bag, which comes with an equilateral triangle at its base, can open up to form a three-dimensional shape and increase the space inside or be folded flat for a compact design. Ears and straps are made of leather for a more luxurious look and come in mixed gray and khaki mix.

The bags in the Lucent series, meanwhile, boast a camouflage pattern with a texture similar to twill fabric and are available in red, magenta, beige, dark green, violet.

Also likely to be popular are the bags with a drawstring. The weight of the bag closes the mouth of the bag automatically when slung over the shoulder, adding dimension to the triangles and creating a charming round shape. They are available in gray x purple, beige x light green and brown x black.

Hermes sees red

French luxury goods brand Hermès showcases its proud history in the Heritage touring exhibition, which is currently enjoying a stop at Parc Paragon, Siam Paragon until Sunday (October 13).

The exhibition takes viewers on a journey to explore the history of the house, which was founded in 1837 by Thierry Hermès, following the thread woven by generations of designers and craftspeople from its origins as a harness-maker and saddler to today’s contemporary designs.

The Rouges Hermès exhibition demonstrates that the house’s attachment to this colour through a spectrum of some 20 shades fluctuating from vermilion to magenta and from bright red to soft red. Ever since Émile Hermès, with the help of skilled artisan tanners, developed a process to dye box calf leather, red has been used to colour a whole range of designs.

The exhibition demonstrates this by featuring not only leather goods but also clothing and home accessories, rounding off with a contemporary jewellery cabinet whose mobile, folding mahogany structure in rouge H conceals a wealth of intricate details. From wood to crystal, leather to silk, the harmonious relationships between colour and matter are clearly discernible.

Bruno Gaudichon, curator of La Piscine museum of art and industry in Roubaix (France) and of Rouges Hermès and worked with set designer Laurence Fontaine on a framework that is flexible yet rigorous. Borrowing pieces from the Émile Hermès collection, the house’s archives and the full range of recent designs, the exhibition is divided into five zones loosely connected by a chronological thread that allows visitors to discover the emergence of new variants of red over time. These ultimately form a subtle and delicate palette throughout the exhibition, which illuminates the history of the house.

Clothing importer Pacifica Group led by Sopana Lavichant is setting the season ablaze with spring-summer collections from some of the top Milan-based brands – Furla, Max Mara, Weekend Max Mara, Geox, Sportmax, Etro and Coccinelle.

Furla’s latest leather handbags bear the all-new Furla Arch logo, a compelling entrance to an exciting world. The collection includes the popular 1927, Pillow and Piperin bags in classic black and white or pastels, boasting remarkable Italian craftsmanship and modern aesthetics.

Glam girl pret-a-porter clothing brand Max Mara has outfits inspired by the agile spy of 007 fame, Modesty Blaise, the “Bond Girl” of 1963. The trench coat and military uniform will have Max Mara ladies ready for any challenge.

Geox shoes have sport-friendly, breathable microclimate technology. There are the Regale and Levita sneakers for men and Pontoise and Novae for women in white, black, yellow and red. Count on durability, comfort, functionality and Italian elegance.

Artist Daniel Wurtzel lends the new Sportmax collection his vivid expressions of freedom in body and mind while designer Nanni Strada combines femininity and glimpses of the brand’s 50-year history. For the anniversary, traditional patterns are reinterpreted in a fresh modern style while a distinct seam-threading technique features throughout 15 iconic coats, jackets, dresses, shirts and accessories.

Etro achieves a “light and effortless” look with intriguing details in feathery cotton dresses, intricate lace kaftans and embroidered silk handkerchiefs, as well as a bow tie and safari suit jacket. There is metallic gold embroidery and colourful prints and patchwork on Jacquard ponchos and knee-length cardigans.

Coccinelle offers “Music is in the Air” and “Ready for Vacation” handbags in vibrant seasonal colours and eye-catching shapes and details. “Florence” is the new, richly coloured, crocodile-print leather bag and “Marvin” all soft suede with the guitar-pic clasps.

Weekend Max Mara’s “On Set” collection by Oscar-winner costume designer Gabriella Pescucci inspired by three of the projects she worked on – “The Age of Innocence”, “The Adventures of Baron Munchausen” and “The Borgias” TV series. Ivory predominates, complemented by smart injections of black intensity, while the Pasticcino clutch represents Pescucci’s love of the sea, with seashells prints in pastel colours.

A blend of New York and Parisian fashion styles has been launched in a fall collection of contemporary active wear and street wear based on a collaboration between Olivia Palermo, the founder and chief creative Officer of Olivia Palermo Group Inc and Karl Lagerfeld Co.

The Rue St-Guillaume capsule collection brings Karl Lagerfeld’s sophisticated touch to active wear for men and women, offering maximum comfort and range of motion, while other designs are ideal for relaxed weekends or travelling to and from the gym. Each piece is embellished with the iconic 21 Rue St-Guillaume graphic inspired by the Karl Lagerfeld maisonette in Paris, while a colour palette of black and white further reflects the brand’s signature DNA.

For women, there are various styles: the leggings with mesh insets, a racer-bank top, a sports bra with an elasticated logo waistband and a cropped top with a built-in bralette. For running, there are spandex shorts covered by built-in nylon shorts on top, an on-the-back waistband and a mesh insert for ventilation. Street wear brings a polished touch to pre-and-post workout wear, including a cashmere sweater, a two-toned hoodie, and a full-length coat. The collection’s statement piece is an ultra-lightweight raincoat for unisex, with an interior draw cord for a personalised fit and which can be paired with a Rue St-Guillaume baseball cap for an effortless look.

Designed for form and function, the men’s collection features a range of street-ready styles: a logo sweatshirt, hoodie and track pants are made from soft French terry and there’s a two-toned zip-up hoodie with a nylon front panel. For the gym or field, a nylon-blend legging is topped with contrast print panels, accompanied by built-in nylon shorts on top. After the gym, to cool down, a pique polo or neoprene bomber can be thrown on with any outfit.

Accessories include more than a dozen athleisure-inspired styles. A grainy leather bucket bag or tote bag are abundantly roomy for transporting gear to and from the studio. For jet-set adventures, there’s a weekender and a covetable trolley suitcase. Daily routine pieces include a nylon offering of bum bags, a backpack, a cross-body and a tote. There’s also a Rue St-Guillaume water bottle and a premium quality anti-slip yoga mat that is accompanied by a strap for easy carrying.

“Being able to collaborate with the visionary and iconic Karl Lagerfeld is truly incredible,” said Palermo. “I am so proud to bring our shared vision to life on this project and infuse my own eclectic perspective to Karl’s Fall 2019 collection.”

“Karl Lagerfeld Styled by Olivia Palermo” will launch at Karl Lagerfeld stores in Thailand, online at KARL.COM and via select wholesale partners.
