According to a Facebook post from the office of the Sangharaja, the Supreme Patriarch said he and all Thais wish the King a long life.

He said all kings of the Chakri Dynasty adhere to “Raja Dhamma” (virtue of the ruler) in ruling the country, and cooperate with others in a peaceful manner.

The kings have also worked to further education, religion, tradition and culture to enable people to gain knowledge and do good deeds, he added.

The Supreme Patriarch also blessed His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn in Pali language, which translates into: “The King who adheres to dharma is lawful, while people who have knowledge and avoid doing bad things will bring happiness to the country.”

Also present at the ceremony were Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana and Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati.

This changing of attire ceremony is conducted by the King three times a year.

A crowd of people showed up at Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram (Emerald Buddha Temple) to greet Their Majesties before and after the ceremony. All those present were instructed to follow Covid-19 prevention rules strictly.

Asanha Bucha Day is a Buddhist festival which takes place during the full moon of the eighth lunar month, celebrating the day when the Buddha preached his first sermon to his first five disciples after his enlightenment.

It is also the day when the first Buddhist monk was ordained. The next day is the beginning of Buddhist Lent and the rainy season retreat for monks.

The message reads: “Queen Suthida and I are deeply saddened by the passing of Mr Shinzo Abe, former prime minister of Japan. We all in Thailand join the people of Japan in mourning this great loss of a highly revered leader who had devoted himself to making contributions to the people of Japan, whereas his reputation and leadership were also recognised in the global community.

“In terms of the bilateral relationship with Thailand, Mr Abe had a firm belief in a strong friendship between the two countries and had promoted cooperation in all aspects, especially in trading and investment, which have brought prosperity and unity to both Thailand and Japan.

“May I, on behalf of the people of Thailand, express to Your Majesty, Mr Abe’s wife and family members, and the Japanese people our heartfelt sympathy and condolences for this great loss.”

Abe, 67, was shot dead while delivering a campaign speech on July 8 in Nara City. The Thai government on Monday ordered all agencies to fly the national flag at half-mast in honour of the former leader.

The ceremony was also attended by the House speaker, speaker of the Senate, Chief Justice, president of the Constitutional Court, chiefs of the armed forces and the Royal Thai Police, high-ranking government officials and their spouses, and the general public.

The prime minister gave a speech to express the Thai people’s gratitude for the royal kindness of Queen Suthida, before placing a pedestal tray of flowers at the base of Her Majesty’s portrait while the orchestra played the royal anthem. The final zone shows 90 examples of Thai textiles along with their history, inspiration, and details on local communities that make them.

King Rama I had the Bangkok city pillar erected near the Temple of the Emerald Buddha on April 21, 1782, with the city’s horoscope inside. The original pillar was made of cassia wood known as Chaiyaphruek, measuring 75cm in diameter and 270cm high.
