The explosion left one woman dead and 18 people injured, some seriously, including Matthayom 6 student Narisara Makchuchit. The bomb blast occurred at a noodle shop in the night market in Pattani’s Muang district.
Narisara was critically injured and had her left leg amputated at the knee at Songkhla Nagarin Hospital in Songkhla’s Hat Yai district.
Bundit Dulyaraksa, director of the Demonstration School at Prince of Songkla University’s Pattani campus, said yesterday that Narisara was out off danger and had regained consciousness.
“I visited her at the ICU room in the hospital on Tuesday morning. Her health status is better than earlier, but she has to be monitored to prevent diseases and infection in her wounds caused by shrapnel, according to the doctor,” the school director said.
He said that the student’s family and other relatives were being encouraged by the support from the public including several hundred well-wishing messages on social media.
“The school has opened a bank account to receive donations from the public to establish a fund to help Narisara and her family. Prince of Songkla University will take responsibility for compensation,” he said. People who are interested in contributing donations are encouraged to contact the Demonstration School directly.
“Narisara, described as a studious and well-mannered schoolgirl, has to unfortunately miss a university exam in this coming weekend. Hence, Prince of Songkla University would like to offer her a seat to study for a higher-education degree as a special case,” he said, adding that she has to drop out for a semester until she leaves the hospital.
Meanwhile, Fourth Army Region commander Lt-General Piyawat Nakwanich, along with Pattani Governor Weeranan Pengchan, went to Pattani Hospital to encourage other people injured in the blast as well as their families and to pass on condolences to the family of the dead woman.

UN meets to honour the King
The United Nations will organise a special assembly to honour HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej today, which will be broadcast live on the UN’s webcast.
Thailand’s ambassador to the UN, Virachai Plasai, said yesterday that representatives of UN member countries would speak in honour of the late King in a rare and special session held at 10am (9pm Thailand time) at the UN building in New York City.
The 15-minute session will commence with an address by the chairman of the General Assembly, followed by the chairpersons of five regions and the US permanent representative to the UN, Samantha Power. The session will end with Virachai’s speech.
The King passed away in his 89th year on October 13, eliciting nationwide mourning for the much-beloved monarch and international condolences. Throughout his seven decades on the throne, the King devoted himself to improving the well being of his people who remember him fondly as the dedicated father of the nation.
Several times at critical junctures in the country’s history, the King exercised his moral authority to peacefully defuse crises.
Demonstrating overwhelming loyalty for the late King, more than a million people have flocked to the Grand Palace to mourn his death, with black-clad mourners at the palace, where the late monarch’s body is resting, day and night.
Merit-making ceremonies in dedication to the late King took place across the country yesterday to mark the 15th day since his passing.

More than 3.7 million people have officially signed condolence books to bid farewell to the King.
The Interior Ministry yesterday reported that 319,148 people had attended Abhidhamma prayer
rituals for the King’s funeral, in addition to 49,057 people who joined alms-giving rituals and 56,915 people who participated in other activities to honour the King.

In Phitsanulok province, people from the Hmong ethnic group
performed a sacred ritual in front of the King’s portrait in the belief that his soul would then ascend to heaven.
In another area of Phitsanulok, state officials joined a merit-making ceremony marking the 15th day of His Majesty’s passing.
A similar ceremony also took place in Bueng Kan province with food presented to monks, praying rituals and water-pouring rituals honouring the King.
Making merit for late King
Khon Kaen Governor Pongsak Preechawit also led local officials and people in his province in making merit for the late monarch.
It has also been announced that mass alms-giving ceremonies would be held at Wat Pa Saeng Arun
every Thursday in honour of the king.
Recognising the outpouring of love for the late monarch, authorities are preparing to accommodate an expected massive flow of mourners to the Grand Palace tomorrow, when it will open the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall for people to pay respects to the late King before his Royal urn.

Bangkok Metropolitan Administ-ration’s spokeswoman Threedow Aphaiwongs Sukhum said 10,000 queue cards would be handed out each day to grant admission to the throne hall.
She said the hall would be
open between 8am and 9pm every day for an indefinite period of time to accommodate the flow of mourners.
Deputy Bangkok governor Pol Lt-General Amnuay Nimmano also said the number of mourners would be limited to 10,000 a day.
“For people from provinces, please head to Bangkok under the quota system that the Interior Ministry has arranged to ensure that your trip is smooth,” he said.

Authorities will close 27 roads around the Grand Palace and nearby areas this weekend to help facilitate the flow of mourners.
Army spokesman Colonel Winthai Suvaree said queue cards would be handed out at the Mahathat Temple, while in a nearby area 20 tents have been erected and 20,000 chairs provided for mourners.

The King’s name can be pronounced in various ways so the government will not enforce a particular pronunciation, Sansern said. “It’s up to you because all Thais are of the same heart,” he added.
The Office of the Royal Society previously stated the section of the late King’s name in question should be pronounced as “po-ra-min” or “pa-ra-min”, although people could opt for “pa-ra-min-tra” as per the Pali and Sanskrit-influenced pronunciation. The phrase translates in English to “the supreme”.
The recent confusion over how to pronounce the king’s name correctly stemmed from variations including “po-ra-min-tra” and “pa-ra-min-tra”, while the Public Relations Department on Wednesday told the public that the correct pronunciation was “pa-ra-min-ta-ra”.

The alleged attack was attributed to stress.
The shooting, which took place at 8.30pm while people were eating together at the police residence, killed Pol Lieutenant Natthawat Churat, 39, and Pol Sergeant Major Sayan Phetchtem, 44, while nine policemen, four wives of police officers and one other civilian were wounded.
Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Centre acting chief Pol Maj-General Ronnasin Phusara |yesterday said police were continuing to hunt for Hassapol, who allegedly fled the scene with a gun.
Ronnasin added that an initial investigation found that the shooting might stem from stress regarding a family issue and that Hassapol had not visited his home in Buri Ram for three years during his service at the police station.
The suspect reportedly observed his colleagues and their families eating together and remarked that everyone seemed very happy except for him.
Ronnasin added that policemen at the station had a heavy workload and many had developed symptoms of stress, which had prompted local hospitals to send psychologists to provide counselling.
Some of the police officers serving in the deep South were from other parts of the country, contributing to stress related to family affairs, Ronnasin said, adding that supervisors were addressing the issue by giving advice and having psychologists provide counselling.

She added that a tonne of flowers was being placed daily outside the palace by mourners.
The King passed away peacefully in his 89th year on October 13.
“These flower represent the love and faith of the loyal Thai subjects for their beloved King Rama IX and should not be uselessly wasted in the garbage, so the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s top officials decided to transform the flowers into natural fertiliser instead to derive the most benefit from them.”
She said King Rama IX Park had prepared a space where the palace flowers would be converted to fertiliser, which will be used to nourish live flowers in parks across Bangkok.
She said other groups planned to use flowers left in honour of the King for other useful purposes, but she added that resulting products should not be sold.
“Some people have planned to transform the flowers into potpourri and distribute it to public. I think that is a good and creative idea,” she said.

In Uttaradit province, 25,000 people from nine districts led by provincial Governor Pipat Ekpapan gathered at Uttaradit Stadium to form a heart with the Thai number “9” and a banner spelling out the province’s name. Participants said the display was an expression of love for His Majesty showing that he would forever be in their hearts.
Many others braved the heat and held up the King’s portrait or banknotes to show their loyalty.
In Phetchabun, 10,000 people including provincial Governor Pibul Hatthakijkosol sang the Royal Anthem and lined up to form the shape of the number “9”, a heart and the province’s name outside City Hall yesterday. The residents said they were grateful that Their Majesties the King and Queen had visited their province on 13 occasions.
In Bangkok, newly-appointed Governor Pol General Aswin Kwanmuang yesterday led 3,500 officials and members of the public to queue to form the number “9”, sing the Royal Anthem and then stand still for 89 seconds in memory of the late King. The event was held at City Hall’s Khon Muang Plaza.
Meanwhile, 64-year-old retired teacher Praet Jianwanitcha began a bicycle journey from Narathiwat to Bangkok yesterday. The former teacher is carrying black ribbon pins for mourners and plans to stop and meditate to make merit for the late King. He is expected to arrive in Bangkok in 10 to 15 days.
In Kanchanaburi’s Muang district, residents gathered at 6.52pm at Wat Thewa Sangkharam to light candles and sing the Royal Anthem in front of the “Sri Mahapho” bodhi tree as a tribute to the late King.

“People keep asking when the official film will be released and whether it has anything to do with the clips being shared on social media. I have seen these clips and admire what they have done. My father MC Chatrichalerm is not worried about the issue, because he says everybody has the right to edit and make clips.
“The images you see on social media today do not come from our production team, but I believe we share the same mission – showing our loyalty to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Our team is working hard on perfecting the film and expects to release it by next week,” said Srikhumrung, who is also one of the directors.
Crowds of black-clad mourners from across the nation flooded Sanam Luang and nearby streets on Saturday to sing the Royal Anthem in memory of the Monarch, who passed away on October 13.
The singers were accompanied by a 200-piece orchestra and a 130-member chorus under the baton of prominent composer Somtow Sucharitkul.
The tribute was filmed by Chatrichalerm, who is also known as “Than Mui”, and his 1,300-member production crew, who were equipped with 50 cameras, 25 microphones, two drones and two cranes at six different filming locations. Footage of His Majesty, who worked tirelessly for the development of the country, will also be added to the film.
“I appreciated that thousands came together for this musical tribute to our beloved Monarch even though we had very little time to organise. What was a small project at first quickly blossomed into a massive one and I was overwhelmed by the response. The post-production process requires meticulous attention and many different techniques.
“My father is very busy with the editing and sound. Due to loads of moving and still pictures, along with footage, it will take time to come up with something perfect. Once the film is released, we will hand over behind-the-scenes videos and still images to the Government Public Relations Department for publicity purposes,” she said.
The film is expected to be completed by next week and will be shown in cinemas and on television.
