The Centre for Air Pollution Mitigation announced on Tuesday morning that pollution in Bangkok and other provinces is slowly improving.

• Greater Bangkok: 23 to 40 micrograms per cubic meter of air (μg/m3)
• North: 14 to 30μg/m3
• Northeast: 12 to 38μg/m3
• Central region and West: 23 to 37μg/m3
• East: 13 to 34μg/m3
• South: 8 to 16μg/m3

The Pollution Control Department, meanwhile, has warned that PM2.5 levels in Greater Bangkok will be high from Thursday to Saturday, but will improve from Sunday to next Tuesday.

Residents can monitor the quality of air via the websites Air4Thai.com and bangkokairquality.com or the Air4Thai and AirBKK applications.

Chaiyaphum police arrested 20 students on Monday evening for being involved in a clash outside the Chaiyaphum College of Agriculture and Technology in Muang district earlier in the day.

The students were tracked down from video clips captured by witnesses as well as CCTV footage after they fled when teachers came out to break them up.

“Students from another college parked their motorcycles outside the campus began fighting a group from the Chaiyaphum College,” a witness said, adding that some students had also pulled out knives.

One of the detainees reportedly pleaded guilty, saying the brawl was sparked by a flirtatious message posted on his girlfriend’s Facebook page by a student from the Chaiyaphum College of Agriculture and Technology.

They denied the brawl had been inspired by the recently released film “4 Kings”, which documents clashes between vocational students in the 1990s. The film is in theatres now.

Meanwhile, police officers persuaded both parties to forgive each other and charged them a fine before releasing them. Police are also taking legal action against those who hurt others with a knife.

A villager in Narathiwat’s Rusoh district is calling on insurgents to stop attacking rangers because it causes difficulties for local residents.

Zulkiphli Benjamat, 52, issued this statement on Monday after two rangers, who were protecting monks while they were collecting alms, were injured from a bomb explosion on December 11.

The bomb was reportedly hidden inside a bin next to an oil vending machine and set off remotely. The rangers are being treated at Rusoh Hospital.

Zulkiphli, who lives near where the explosion took place, was getting ready to drive his son to a job training session in Phatthalung.

“I ran into my house as soon as I heard the bomb,” he said. “My wife and son rushed to hug me because I was standing too close to the bombing site.”

Zulkiphli said he is still agitated even though he has been reassured by officials from different agencies who came to collect information. His car has also been picked up by the insurance company to evaluate damages.

“I want to call on administrative officials to tighten measures to take care of people because this is the second time that a bomb has been exploded in this area,” he said.

“I also call on the insurgents to stop attacking rangers as it causes trouble for local people.”

Don’t rush to get a fourth Covid-19 jab, advises expert virologist

#SootinClaimon.Com : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation.

https://www.nationthailand.com/in-focus/40009956

In a Facebook post on Tuesday, expert virologist Dr Yong Poovorawan said Covid-19 is a new disease and its vaccines are also new. Hence, the best way of tackling the virus is to gradually accumulate knowledge on what works to reduce the risk to vaccine recipients.

“So far, we know that two vaccine shots can prevent severe symptoms and death from Covid-19. However, to maintain high immunity, a booster or third jab is required,” he said.

“Based on this, everybody should get at least two jabs and then a booster when they can.

“There is no need to think about getting a fourth shot just yet. Instead, we should wait until we know more about Covid-19 or until a new generation of vaccines is developed,” he suggested.

He said waiting is the best thing to do since each jab needs to be administered at a suitable interval to allow the vaccine enough time to stimulate immunity.

“Furthermore, getting too many jabs can increase the risk of side effects,” he added.

“There is evidence that recipients of three mRNA vaccines develop myocarditis after the second shot and lymphadenopathy after the third shot, though they had shown no side effects after the first jab.

“If you have already registered for the fourth jab with a private vaccine importer, it is advisable to postpone it for now and wait at least six months after your third jab,” the expert said. “We don’t know what will happen in the future. There could be a new variant of the virus or a new type of vaccine may become available.”
