INDEX LIVING Mall, a manufacturer and retailer of home furnishing products, has set strategic plan to open at least one store in a new Asean market every year.

The sales contribution from Asean countries is expected to increase significantly from the 6-7 per cent estimated for this year to 10 per cent within three years.

Managing director Kridchanok Patamasatayasonthi said the company’s overseas expansion was in line with its vision to be the No 1 player in Southeast Asia in terms of brand awareness in this segment.

She said that in Thailand, Index Living Mall had opened a new branch in Nakhon Pathom in February with 7,500 square metres of retail space. Another store will be opened in Chachoengsao in June with 5,500sqm of space.

“We also plan to open another Index Living Mall store in Bangkok in January next year,” she said.

Outside Thailand, Index Living Mall has opened home-furnishing stores in Malaysia and Vietnam. The first store in Malaysia is in IOI City Mall in Putrajaya. The company opened another store at Aeon Mall in Shah Alam in March, and at Aeon Mall in Kota Bahru last month.

The expansion in Malaysia is via a joint venture with Japan’s Aeon Group. The fourth Index Living Mall store will be opened in Johor Bahru next year.

In Vietnam, the company has appointed a local franchisee to expand its retail network. The first Index Living Mall in Vietnam, at Vincom Mega Mall in Ho Chi Minh City, opened in January, and the second one last month at Vincom Mega Mall in Hanoi.

“We are negotiating with a potential joint-venture partner in the Philippines and a potential franchisee in Indonesia for partnership deals that are expected to be finalised next year,” Kridchanok said.

Index Living Mall posted Bt2.5 billion in sales revenue in the first quarter of this year, a 10-per-cent increase compared with the same quarter last year.

The company targets Bt10 billion in sales this year, up 10 per cent over 2015.

The company has also opened a concept store at Don Mueang International Airport, “Sky Living by Index Living Mall”, with 400sqm of retail space, which showcases its home-furnishing products and accessories to potential buyers, both Thais and foreigners.

After the official opening of the airport’s new Terminal 2 building, which was recently renovated byAirports of Thailand to accommodate the growing number of domestic passengers, Index Living Mall aims to create direct customer experiences by providing a premier passenger lounge designed around a wide variety of room settings, as well as a Kids’ Zone that offers a play area for young children.

Customers can also place an order and make payments onsite, and their products will be delivered to their preferred address by a professional service team.

“Sky Living by Index Living Mall boasts Thailand’s first home-furnishings and accessories store in an airport, and this new marketing initiative reflects Index Living Mall’s commitment to drive the furniture retail sector forward,” Kridchanok said.

Last year, passenger arrivals at Don Mueang International Airport increased by 40 per cent over 2014 to more than 28.5 million, of whom 20 million were domestic passengers and 8.5 million international. It is anticipated that the reopened Terminal 2 building will serve 20 million passengers each year.

She said Index Living Mall continued to develop its retail network, from the first store that opened its doors more than 20 years ago, to the first standalone speciality store in Thailand, to its current 26 retail locations nationwide, spanning 270,000 sqm of retail space.

The company has established footprints in major tourist destinations including Chiang Mai, Udon Thani, Khon Kaen, Hat Yai and Phuket.

Thailand to host global student entrepreneur competition

THAILAND PLAYS host for the first time to the Global Student Entrepreneur Awards (GSEA) finals from May 10-12, welcoming 50 nominees from 50 countries.

“Not just the first time to be held in Thailand, it’s also the first in Asia.

“And Pattaraphon Boonchai, a mechanical and aerospace engineering student at King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok, is the first qualified Thai student to represent Thailand’s young entrepreneur in ente ring the semi-finals,” said Sasamon Sanguansin, president of Entrepreneurs’ Organisation Thailand.

Since 2006, the Entrepreneurs’ Organisation (EO) has been organising the GSEA programme to support student entrepreneurs who require mentoring, recognition |and connections to take their businesses to the next level of success.

It is aimed at giving student entrepreneurs the opportunity to accelerate their success, challenge the status quo, connect to an instrumental peer group and make the greatest impact in their community.

In the past, only undergraduates who owned and had operated a business for at least six months were eligible to compete.

However, the Thai chapter asked the global EO to skip that criterion to give more opportunities for students to submit their work without doing business.

From the 50 candidates competing in the semi-finals, only five will be selected for the Global Finals Competition on May 12 at the Centara Grand at CentralWorld hotel.

The grand prize is Bt700,000.

Pattaraphon said that, inspired by his 94-year old grandmother with Alzheimer’s disease, he wanted to invent a rescue robot for the elderly and disabled who cannot walk.

This robot’s arm is fixed with four cameras and was designed to flexible and to prop up the robot’s body, thanks to an auto-motion-detection system.

“This rescue robot offers great mobility, so it can be further developed for various purposes,” he said.

“In the future, I want to carry on the project with the aim [of making] a robot chair for the disabled, such as people with myasthenia gravis,” a neuromuscular disease.

EO Thailand will also host the Global Leadership Conference for the first time, gathering 1,500 EO members to share best business practices.

Founded in 1987, EO is a global peer-to-peer network of more than 20,000 influential business owners with 158 chapters in 50 countries.

EO is a platform that enables entrepreneurs to learn and grow from one another, leading to greater business success and an enriched personal life, it says.

EO provides members access to mentors, offers customised learning programmes and gives them the chance to attend global networking events.

Sasamon said EO Thailand was founded 20 years ago with one chapter and 110 members.

All of them are entrepreneurs from a range of business types.

The member entrepreneurs |can take home value through learning events and in-depth sharing forums.

Sponsorship deal a win-win relationship

LEICESTER SPONSORS

IT HAS PROVED to be a particularly worthwhile investment being a sponsor of English football club Leicester City, who have taken just two years since being promoted to the Premier League to be crowned champions, as the deals made with Thai brands have turned out to be win-win relationships – and now look set to be even more so.

King Power Group chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha announced the acquisition of Leicester City FC in August 2010.

One of Vichai’s key ambitions has been to develop Leicester City’s fan base internationally and particularly in Asia, while boosting Thailand’s global reputation and capabilities through the management of the club.

Through training with the club’s soon-to-be-implemented local education and coaching programme, he also hopes to put Thai footballers on the world map.

Sugree Sithivanich, deputy governor for marketing communications at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), said the agency had begun sponsoring Leicester City four years ago, when the team were in the second-tier Championship.

The club has, however, since moved up rapidly, clinching the Premier League crown earlier this week.

“The TAT decided to sponsor this team because we were confident that they would help raise Thailand’s tourism awareness among their fans in Europe. Moreover, Leicester is a big city, from which the TAT should be able to claim more potential tourists,” he said.

The authority has spent millions of baht on sponsoring the team since the inception of the deal, with the rate paid remaining the same throughout the period.

Even now, despite the rapid growth in the club’s popularity during its fairy-tale success season, there are still no negotiations being held on a new sponsorship rate, he added.

Sugree said the TAT was continuing to gain high marketing value from its sponsorship, because the team allowed it to organise events outside the King Power Stadium, as well facilitating its marquee Thai tourism campaign, “Amazing Thailand”, inside the stadium.

“Each year, Thailand is promoted about 20 times during the team’s home matches,” he said.

The deputy governor also said the TAT had for years been pushing sports as a key tool to drive tourism and help build tourism awareness in both overseas and domestic markets.

The agency spends about Bt30 million annually on supporting a number of major as well as smaller events.

The TAT is planning to separate its sports marketing budget from other marketing for the first time, and expects to implement this “issue-based” approach from next year onwards.

Last year, Thailand welcomed 946,919 visitors from the United Kingdom, some 4.3 per cent higher than the 907,877 received in 2014.

Singha Beer, meanwhile, started sponsoring Leicester City in 2012, when they were in the Championship and two years before their promotion to the Premier League.

Singha last October extended the sponsorship deal with the club for a further three years at a cost of ฃ4.6 million (around Bt236 million). Under the deal, Singha will be an official club partner and sponsor of the Spion Kop Stand, and is the official club beer.

Singha now has partnerships with four Premier League teams – Leicester City, Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Singha executive director Bhurit Bhirombhakdi said the deal with Leicester City was good for both sides, as the company was supporting a team fully owned by Thais.

New CEO at SCG seeks surge in region

THE NEW chief executive of SCG, Roongrote Rangsiyopash, wants his industrial group to match or surpass the market growth rate in Asean countries outside Thailand, where the chemical-building materials-packaging group has underperformed in the past.

While maintaining the two main strategies that his predecessor, Kan Trakulhoon, announced a decade ago – to “go Asean” and “go for higher value-added products” – the Harvard-graduate CEO spoke of the need for SCG to hasten the conglomerate’s speed of execution and enlarge its businesses fivefold in Asean markets outside Thailand.

“[SCG] hopes to grow faster than or at least equal to the market, and with quality growth. By [sales] volume, last year we grew by 3-5 per cent, [but] if considering the Asean economies, they expanded by about 5 per cent,” he said.

While Thailand accounts for about 10 per cent of the Asean population, and about 20 per cent in terms of gross domestic product, only 10-12 per cent of SCG’s sales are derived from other Aseanmarkets outside the Kingdom, he added.

“This [contribution from other Asean markets] must become 70-80 per cent. [This means] we have to grow five times [in these Asean markets],” the chief executive said.

In his first formal media interview since taking the helm at the start of this year, Roongrote admitted he was worried about the end of the uptrend cycle for the petrochemical industry, which is expected to come in the next two to three years.

SCG’s chemicals business contributed Bt9.1 billion out of a total Bt13.6-billion net profit that the group reported for the first three months of the year.

“This [the end of the petrochemicals uptrend] is something we should be worried about,” he stressed.

Roongrote said he believed, however, that SCG’s cement and building-materials business could find large room for further growth in the region, which is massively expanding its infrastructure investments.

Moreover, SCG’s packaging business could also grow well in the next five years, thanks to its recent decision to shift focus to end-packaging products and to unlock its material usage from pure paper-based packaging, he said.

Petrochemicals business, meanwhile, can also be developed to grow further with the Long Son petrochemicals complex project in Vietnam, and new capacity expansion and new-product projects to be carried out by PT Chandra Asri Petrochemical, its 30 per cent-owned joint venture in Indonesia.

The neighbouring markets of Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia, which share their land borders with Thailand, possess greater potential than he had previously thought, and also offer a huge opportunity for SCG to expand its logistics services business, Roongrote said.

Siam Global House, in which SCG holds a 30-per-cent stake, will be a vehicle for SCG investments in the region, he added.

The group will also study opportunities to expand to Southern China, which has a larger economic size than the whole of Thailand and where goods can be shipped inland from Thailand through Laos and Myanmar.

On the research and development front, Roongrote said the budget and number of researchers would be less important than the speed and quality of its R&D outputs.

The group’s next move in R&D is to make it become more customer-centric, through engaging more marketing and sales people in the R&D processes, he said.

Since competition in Asean markets has intensified with more regional players and the participation of global players in some of the industries in which SCG operates, the group has to beef up its R&D and its people’s capabilities to become world-class as well, he stressed.

The new SCG chief will have a maximum of eight years in post, as he reaches the retirement age of 60 in 2024.

SCG reported sales revenue of Bt110 billion for the first quarter, a flat year-on-year result due to the slide in petrochemical prices, which came down in line with oil prices.

TACC to sell Sanrio cartoon-character products

BUSINESS DIVERSIFIED

TAC CONSUMER (TACC), exclusive distributor of ready-to-drink tea and coffee in 7-Eleven stores, yesterday announced its newly diversified business selling food and non-food products under five cartoon characters of the Sanrio group.

“The new products are expected to be on sale by August after the company inked a deal with Sanrio on April 29 for distributing these licensed products,” said Chatchawee Wattanasook, chairman of TACC’s executive board.

The five cartoon characters |are Hello Kitty, My Melody, Kerokerokeroppi, Pompompurin and Bad Badtz-Maru.

As a key strategic partner of CP All, operator of 7-Eleven convenience stores, Chatchawee said TACC was allowed to sell the licensed products, which would cover five groups: stationery, non-food items such as cups, coil wallets and key chains, cosmetics, beverages, and processed food.

He said the contract would last for five months, from August 1 to December 31. However, the company can renew the contract if it informs Sanrio Wave Hong Kong Co at least a month in advance.

TACC has been listed on the Market for Alternative Investment since the end of last year. The company is a producer and distributor of beverages, mainly tea and coffee.

Currently, it operates business-to-business services, such as supplying ready-to-drink beverages to 7-Eleven stores as well as instant drink powders to All Cafe outlets in the 7-Elevens.

The company also sells beverages directly to consumers, such |as bottled green tea under |the Zenya brand, VSlim instant |coffee, and instant drink powders under the Na-Arun and Sawasdee brands.

In Cambodia, Zenya now has more than half of the market for bottled green-tea products, and the Na-Arun and Sawasdee brands are targeted for export, as the company has started selling them in China online.

Last year, TACC posted a 31-per-cent increase in net profit to Bt67.95 million on flat-growth revenue of Bt1 billion.

“The company expects to see around Bt50 million to Bt60 million in revenue this year,” Chatchawee said.

GROUPM has high hopes that world sports events such as the Olympic Games and Uefa European Championship along with the increasing popularity of local soccer leagues will boost the Thai advertising industry in the second half of this year.

Rattakorn Surbsuk, trading partner of GroupM, a media-investment management firm under British advertising and public relations company WPP, said marketing activities related to world-class sport competitions would have a big impact on advertisers.

“Thai football leagues are gaining in popularity among local audiences, mainly driven by improving performance of Thai national teams. This creates huge opportunities for advertisers and sponsors that want to publicise their brands through these events and local football clubs,” Rattakorn said.

The advertising industry looks like benefiting significantly from the Uefa European Championship from June 10 to July 10 and Summer Olympics from August 5 to 21.

The country’s second-largest TV station, Channel 3, will broadcast the 15th edition of Uefa Euro 2016, which will take place in France. Meanwhile, Channel 3 along with other main free-TV broadcasters including Channel 7, the Army’s TV5, MCOT’s Modernine TV and NBT channel will be co-broadcasters of the Summer Olympic Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“Such world-class sporting events will boost related business including advertising investment, sport marketing and on-ground activities by at least double from normal periods,” he added.

Amid the economic slowdown, sport-related marketing is expected to play a key role in media industries. Bangkok Entertainment Company (BEC), the operator of Channel 3, agreed that it was also witnessing this growing trend.

“Live sports programmes will be one of the key drivers boosting ratings for Channel 3 and its affiliate networks this year,” Surin Krittiyaphongphun, executive vice president of BEC, said recently.

Apart from the Uefa Euro 2016, BEC plans to air big sports competitions such |as the FIVB Volleyball| World Grand Prix Final in July and MotoGP World Championship.

Bangkok Media and Broadcasting’s PPTV digital channel appears to be aggressively promoting its live sports content to boost its ratings and expand its audience base.

Kematat Paladesh, president of PPTV, said that from the second half of this year, the channel would show live the new seasons of major soccer leagues including the English Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga, Spain’s La Liga, Italian Series A, Uefa Champions League and Uefa Europa League, as well as leading soccer tournaments such as the International Champions Cup and Fifa Club World Cup.

Nippon Paper to install demo facilities for biomass fuel

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Nippon-Paper-to-install-demo-facilities-for-biomas-30285122.html

NIPPON PAPER Industries has signed a joint research and development agreement with Phoenix Pulp and Paper, a core company of SCG Packaging’s fibrous business chain, invested by Nippon Paper Industries in Thailand.

In the course of this joint research, they will install demonstration facilities in Thailand for the production of woody biomass fuel or “torrefied pellets” using torrefaction technology along with the woody biomass resources that PPPC possesses.

Torrefied pellets are superior to pellets made with only woody biomass (white pellets) or woody chips both in terms of water resistance and grindability. The increased density of energy leads to benefits such as reduced logistics costs.

Nippon Paper Industries has decided to begin demonstrative production on a scale of 8,000 tonnes per year in collaboration with PPPC. It will use the accumulated torrefaction technology and ultimately aim to commercialise it for market release.

The demonstration facilities for production will be installed on the premises of the PPPC mill in the Northeastern region of Thailand. They will utilise woody biomass as a raw material from the company-contracted forested site nearby.

The facilities will begin production of torrefied pellets in spring 2017, with the plan being to ascertain the potential for commercialisation around the end of December of the same year after a mixed combustion experiment with a pulverised-coal boiler at Kushiro Mill in Kushiro, Japan.

Nippon Paper Industries envisages installing commercial production facilities with a yearly production capacity of 80,000 tonnes when |commercialisation is realised. It will also do market research in Asia with Mitsui & Co while demonstrative experiments are being conducted.

There is a global demand for woody biomass fuel as a renewable energy source that can reduce carbon-dioxide emissions. Domestic demand is also becoming higher in Japan.

Navy picks Thales to modernise its capabilities

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/Navy-picks-Thales-to-modernise-its-capabilities-30285121.html

FRENCH multinational Thales Group has won two significant contracts for the supply of a full spectrum of above- and underwater solutions for the Royal Thai Navy.

Thales will modernise Bang Rachan-class mine hunters and supply the combat, navigation and communication suite on board the newly ordered Krabi-class offshore patrol vessel.

Thales has been a partner to Thailand’s armed forces since the late 1990s and has provided the Navy with numerous solutions from sensors to integrated combat systems for various vessels of the fleet.

The company has been awarded the role of prime contractor for an extensive upgrade of two Bang Rachan-class mine hunters built in the late 1980s – HTMS Bang Rachan and HTMS Nong Sarai.

This marks Thales’s first success in the Thai market for underwater systems and sonar.

As prime contractor, Thales will be responsible for the revised vessel design, repairs and modernisation, procurement of equipment and platform integration.

The upgraded ship will be equipped with a machinery control system, navigation systems, upgraded communications capabilities, Sonar TSM 2022 Mk III with M-CUBE command and control and a multi-influence signature range to manage the Navy ships’ signatures.

Thales will work hand in hand with the local industry to manage the work.

The group says it will also provide training and integrated logistics support for the Navy to enjoy the best operational use of the vessels in the coming years.

Thales’ solution promises to extend the operational life of these ships by more than 15 years.

In 2009, Thales was chosen to supply the combat, navigation and communication suite for HTMS Krabi. The ship was commissioned in 2013 and has already completed more than 1,000 days at sea.

Last year, the Navy decided to launch a second vessel of the Krabi class. The vessel, to be built by Bangkok Dock, will be equipped with a Thales integrated solution that includes the Tacticos combat management system and an integrated bridge and navigation suite.

The sensors to be delivered are the Variant surveillance radar, Stir 1.2 EO Mk2 fire-control radar and Vigile electronic support measures with SKWS chaff launcher.

Thales will supply the tactical data links – Link RTN and Link-Y Mk2 – and all internal and external communication systems.

It will be responsible for all integration activities, including the 76-millimetre gun, 2x30mm gun and Harpoon SSM.

The ship is expected to be commissioned in the second half of this year.

By working together with its naval key industrial partner, Thales says it will be able to provide the best level of local training and service to the Navy and support Thailand’s goal of strengthening high-end local industrial capabilities.

Thales is a global technology leader for the aerospace, transport, defence and security markets. With 62,000 employees in 56 countries, Thales reported sales of 14 billion euros (Bt560 billion) last year.

Thales has been present in Thailand since the early 1990s, and today has numerous programmes and achievements to its name in both and civil and defence sectors.

Toy firm initiates tourism project

TOY FIRM

MAFIA FACTORY, the group of companies owning rights to manufacture the “CE” platform toy, has announced a new project “CE Localism” to spread the Thainess image and bring tourism income to local areas via its CE toy.

The move came after the group’s success in commercially developing the platform toy called “CE” – which stands for Creative Enhancement – after it finished among the world’s top five toys in the Best DIY Platform category in the International Designate Toy Awards 2011 contest in the US.

CE (Pronounced as “Zee”) is a character and platform toy project created by a Thailand-based company, Expertise Partner International (EPI), a project developed and managed by Napat Phromphruk since 2008

CE is the first platform toy in Thailand completely designed and manufactured in Thailand, from the first sketch to the final product.

Napat, who is business development director of Mafia, also one of the founders of companies under the Mafia Factory brand name – Monkey and Friends Production Co Ltd and EPI – expects the “CE Localised” project would help spur the domestic tourism market in local areas.

He said the idea is similar to one in Japan, which uses a toy as a medium to talk about the characteristics of different local areas.

To execute the new project, Mafia Factory has joined hands with the Thai Cartoon Association to push for exclusively designed cartoon characters in the form of a post box via “CE toy”, focusing on the tourism destinations.

“Initially, we are targeting Ratchaburi and Phetchburi as pilot projects under CE Localism,” said Napat, adding that they had been collaborating with local administrative agencies to initiate the project.

Conceptually, he said the cartoon character designs for each province would be different according to the characteristic of the provinces. The designed post box would be suitable for resorts, shops and restaurants where their customers can take a picture with it and share the pictures on social media.

“So far, we have discussed the idea of the CE Localism project with business owners in more than 10 provinces and received positive feedback from them,” said Napat.

He said this was at an initial stage and the group has not yet decided on the cartoon character for Ratchaburi. In the next step, the group might select the top three famous designers to design a proper character and then have people to vote on their preferred choice.

However, Mafia Factory has also launched six different post boxes via the CE toy designed by six famous designers, who have worked with it over the past six years.

Napat said these post boxes were designed as showcases under the CE Localism project if the idea could be materialised.

“This concept has been very successful in Japan, as people can connect the toy to the area represented by it, creating a robust souvenir product market and other products related to the toy,” he said.

Napat said in Japan, products related to toys could generate about 10 billion yen (Bt3 billion) a year.

As for Thailand, he said the country’s local areas could develop in the same way as those in Japan. The business owners who join the project would also have licences to sell the designed cartoon characters on the CE toy as souvenir and also other products that contain that cartoon character, for example.

Previously, the group’s main client targets were foreign companies from various industries. Over the past few years, Mafia Factory has provided services to Thai companies such as PTT and Toyota that use toys for branding.

Napat said the group is the holder of the CE toy patent and trademark and it would provide services from designing and producing the designed CE toys for the clients.

Buddy CE is a 3.5-inch plastic figure available for sale as a do it yourself product and a limited special series.

Singapore firm targets region

SINGAPORE-LISTED Super Group is set to stir up its instant coffee and creamer business in the region and Thailand as the Asean Economic Community starts to percolate.

“Super Group is already a relevant regional player with 15 facilities and productions bases within the member states of AEC, including Myanmar, Malaysia, China, Singapore and Vietnam,” executive director Peter Tan said last week.

“With the implementation of the AEC, the free flow of capital, investments, skilled labour, services and goods will immediately mean greater savings from shared resources such as labour, advertising and promotional efforts, trade tariffs/ taxes currently related to the trade of goods and allocation of various resources across borders.

“The group can also leverage and roll out branding, innovation and diversification initiatives within a recognised region that can elevate Super Group or better integrate the group into the global economy.”

Tan told The Nation that the establishment of the AEC last year was a major milestone in the regional economic integration agenda in Asean, offering opportunities in the form of a huge market of US$2.6 trillion and over 622 million people. In 2014, AEC was collectively the third largest economy in Asia and the seventh largest in the world.

The AEC Blueprint aims for a AEC in 2025 that is highly integrated, competitive, innovative and dynamic with enhanced connectivity and sectoral cooperation.

It will be more resilient, inclusive and people-oriented – a people-centred community, integrated with the global economy.

Asean will be more proactive, having had in place the structure and frameworks to operate as an economic community, cultivating its collective identity and strength to engage with the world, responding to new developments and seizing new opportunities.

The new blueprint will not only ensure that the 10 Asean countries are economically integrated, but also that they are sustainably and gainfully integrated in the global economy, contributing to the goal of shared prosperity.

“A shared economic development region will likely equate to a larger combined market and broad consumer bases for the group to tap into for future growth, thereby further expanding Super’s businesses,” he said.

Stepping into and participating actively within the AEC framework will also mean keen competition for the group’s businesses from bigger companies or markets, such as the Philippines and Thailand, compared to Singapore. Management believes that the AEC inclusion will better position the group to ride on the rising consumption of the middle-income group in Asia.

Despite possible continued macro uncertainties within Asia – currency volatility and raw material (commodities such as white sugar and palm oil) price fluctuations being the two headwinds – the group aims to expand its geographical footprint by extending its brand presence within the core markets and the sales contribution from more new markets.

During the pre-fiscal 2013 period, its branded consumer sales were mainly derived from only four Southeast Asian markets – Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia and Singapore.

However, for post-fiscal 2015, after the rebranding, headcount and talent recruitment and organic capabilities expansion, its core branded consumer sales come from eight key markets -Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, China, Singapore, the Philippines, Vietnam and other export markets. It distributes its products to over 60 countries.

Its growth strategy is expanding distribution, market share and brand presence through the three-pronged approach of branding, product innovation and diversification.

This would improve its offerings to engage with and remain relevant to the rising population of middle-income earners across Asia.

It is targeting revenue growth of over 10 per cent annually from the region over the next five years. Providing convenience and quality instant food and beverage products to consumers is its core principle.

“We are always looking to focus on the core of what we do best and will continue to place emphasis on innovation, building and strengthening our coffee position in the market through our different brands that serve the markets in the region,” he said.

Essenso Microground Coffee is one example of product innovation that will leverage on its branding experience, diversified markets presence and distribution capability to drive growth as a new-category product.

Super Group has just concluded a period of progressive manufacturing line upgrades and new facilities add-ons, building new capabilities such as botanical herbal extracts, freeze-dried coffee, glucose liquids syrup solids and nutritional oil powders (premium-grade creamers). It has doubled its soluble coffee powder plant from 10,000 tons to 20,000. These expansions commenced at the end of 2013 and were concluded by the end of last year.

It is now one of the largest food ingredients manufacturers in Asean. Especially notable is its coffee plant in Malaysia.

Over the past two years, the total investment budget spent was disclosed as 130 million Singaporean dollars (Bt3.4 billion).

The utilisation rates of its enhanced facilities and production capabilities are maintained at 60-65 per cent.
