Chatyapha Nayasoontornkul and Natphakan Tipakornsaowapak, co-founder and director of “Petsionate” – online trader of premium pet clothes.

WITH A passion for pets and for designing clothes, Chatyapha Nayasoontornkul and Natphakan Tipakornsaowapak created their own business, Petsionate, to sell pet clothes online.

The two friends launched the venture in February last year, foreseeing a great opportunity to go into business for themselves with little investment and low risk. They combined their love for animals and passion for designing to create lovely pet clothes to sell online.

Unlike other pet clothes, Petsionate’s designs feature a luxurious look. They also use special kinds of fabric such as silk and linen to make clothes that are uniquely lavish, while also ensuring pets’ comfort. Each of Petsionate’s creations is carefully handcrafted and original.

Chatyapha said she took great care designing and making the clothes as nowadays pet lovers like to dress them up and take them to parties, wedding ceremonies, and many other activities. Petsionate also designs and produces accessories for pet owners under the same concept.

The accessories include scarves, clutches and phone cases. All of these products are created to match the pet’s clothing collection, so the owners can enjoy using accessories that reflect the bond between them and their pets.

After more than a year in business, the company’s good designs are attracting the attention not only of Thai pet lovers, but also foreigners. Traders from several countries have contracted with the company as sales agents for its pet clothes in overseas markets.

Natphakan said that after a good response in the domestic market, the company aimed to penetrate overseas markets, focusing on Asean, mainly Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Indonesia, and some countries in Europe such as France and Germany.

“Many pet lovers want to shop online and dress up their pets. We will always create new designs for |pet clothes, about two or three patterns every month, and change our collection to serve market demand,” she said. Petsionate now earns revenue of about Bt50,000-Bt60,000 per month from domestic orders. The company expects revenue of up to Bt100,000 a month soon as more foreigners order their products.

Prices of pet clothes start from Bt450.

Petsionate now has distribution channels through Facebook, Line, Instagram, and its own website:www.petsionate.com.

The company expects sales to increase by an average of 20 per cent a year from now on.

Big C store in Ho Chi Minh City.

CENTRAL GROUP in partnership with Nguyen Kim Group yesterday announced the acquisition of Big C Vietnam from France’s Casino Group for 920 million euros (Bt36.6 billion).

Central said the acquisition represented the strength of its will to keep expanding its business in Asia.

“Central Group and Nguyen Kim Group have officially acquired Big C Vietnam, which has been operated for more than 18 years,” said Tos Chirathivat, chief executive officer of Central Group.

He said Big C Vietnam had 43 stores nationwide, comprising 33 hypermarkets and 10 convenience stores, and 30 shopping malls. “Total revenue in 2015 was approximately 586 million euros.”

Central Group Vietnam was founded in 2011 with its business partner Nguyen Kim. This business collaboration was very successful. They continued to expand their business, and finally acquired Big C Vietnam.

Central Group Vietnam currently operates two Robins department stores in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, as well as two Marks & Spencer stores, 27 Supersports stores, 21 Nguyen Kim stores selling electronic goods, and 13 branches of Lan Chi Mart retail and wholesale food stores in Vietnam.

Nguyen Kim was founded in 2001, and became one of the leading electronics retailers in Vietnam. Central Group acquired 49 per cent of Nguyen Kim last year.

Casino yesterday on its official website announced the closing of the sale of Big C Vietnam to Central Group, for an enterprise value of 1 billion euros, implying 2015 multiples of 1.8 times net sales, 20.4 times EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation) and 34.4 times EBIT.

The proceeds to be received by the Casino Group will amount to 920 million euros.

Casino Group recently reached a deal worth 3.1 billion euros to sell its Big C operations in Thailand to Berli Jucker, a listed manufacturing and trading company owned by tycoon Charoen Sirivadhana-|bhakdi.

Big C operates a large network of more than 700 stores in Thailand, including 126 hypermarkets, with a sales revenue of Bt119.6 billion in 2015.

Casino Group has made significant investments for more than 18 years to develop its subsidiary Big C in Vietnam.

Big C Vietnam has built strong relationships with its Vietnamese suppliers and farmers, its customers, its employees and the local authorities and communities, which allowed the development of modern retail in the country.

Central Group in partnership with Nguyen Kim says it will continue the strategy of Big C Vietnam, notably regarding sourcing of goods produced in Vietnam for Big C stores.

Casino says it will continue its sourcing activity of Vietnamese food products distributed in France, Brazil and Colombia. After the disposal of its subsidiaries Big C Thailand and Big C Vietnam, the deleveraging plan of the Casino Group reaches 4.2 billion euros.

According to the Thailand-Vietnam Business Council, imports of Thai products by Vietnam expanded almost two-fold to US$8.2 billion (Bt286 billion) in 2015 compared with 2009.

The average growth rate of retail sales in Vietnam has been in double digits over the last five years.

Modern trade accounts for only 18 per cent of the country’s total retail sales, suggesting huge growth potential.

As of December, there were 415 Thai investment projects in Vietnam with registered capital of $7.36 billion.

Thai Union to scrap worker recruitment fees

LABOUR

THAI UNION Group Plc, the largest shelf-stable tuna processor and owner of a portfolio of leading global seafood brands, will immediately eliminate recruitment fees at its factories and processing plants for all workers from within and outside Thailand.

Thai Union’s primarily Thai, Myanmar and Cambodian workers are recruited in Thailand or directly through formal channels engaging licensed recruitment agents in Cambodia and Myanmar.

The move follows the company’s continued development of an ethical migrant worker recruitment policy and has been welcomed by the Migrant Workers Rights Network (MWRN), whose mapping of all Thai Union’s factories and processing plants this year highlighted challenges in recruitment as requiring an urgent response.

In recent months, Thai Union has focused on reducing the potential for abuse and extortion by agents and brokers in the recruitment of migrant workers.

By committing significant resources and time to dealing directly and building stronger relationships with recruitment agents in Cambodia and Myanmar, the company has been able to map out recruitment processes more effectively, with MWRN providing oversight and supervision, thereby reducing costs and complexities.

Darian McBain, global director of sustainable development for MWRN, said Thai Union’s ethical migrant recruitment policy has already been applied to the use of agents for all migrant worker registration processes in Thailand, such that its workers cover no additional costs should Thai Union choose to utilise agents for these processes.

This policy will now be extended to all foreign recruitment for this year.

“One of the key platforms in developing a truly sustainable future is the need for all employees to have access to safe and freely chosen employment.

“Debt bondage resulting from recruitment has no place in our workplaces,” he said.

Andy Hall, international affairs adviser for MWRN, said Thai Union was moving openly, cooperatively and quickly to address MWRN’s remaining concerns regarding working conditions of its workers.

MWRN has recently completed factory mapping exercises across Thai Union Manufacturing, Thai Union Group factory, Thai Union Seafood and Songkhla Canning Company, with complete transparency and open access during site visits alongside full cooperation in sharing all internal documents, audit materials and information relating to key areas of workers’ conditions.

“Not only have MWRN’s team of migrant worker leaders had an opportunity to observe positive practices which benefit Thai Union’s workers, but we also found strong cooperation and a willingness to fix compliance and welfare concerns we raised,” he said.

Thai Union has been working with MWRN’s leadership since 2013 to address migrant worker concerns about conditions in Thailand’s major export factories.

In January, Thai Union and MWRN formally launched a cooperative project to validate progress in addressing remaining concerns in migrant workers’ conditions in these factories.

OUTLOOK

CONSTRUCTION company Ch Karnchang (CK) is confident on its 2016 outlook with a restructured management team, and says it is ready for new construction and PPP (public-private partnership) projects, expecting revenue of Bt40 billion.

Executive chairman Plew Trivisvavet said the company achieved strong performance in 2015 while the management restructuring of its subsidiary Bangkok Expressway and Metro was accomplished as planned.

The management restructuring for BEM is intended to bring a great deal of benefit by strengthening the company’s financial stability, streamlining its operations, and allowing it to seize opportunities for new projects, he said.

Meanwhile CK has enhanced its workforce readiness by the addition of new senior management team members, as well as strengthening its financial readiness and leveraging strategic partnerships to accommodate upcoming infrastructure development inside and outside Thailand.

With its 43 years of experience, extensive knowledge base, advanced engineering expertise and high-capacity working teams, Ch Karnchang says it is confident of quality project outcomes and accomplishing its business goals.

The company plans to bid for new mass-transit and other transport projects including the MRT Orange Line, Pink Line and Yellow Line, dual-track railways, motorways, and Suvarnabhumi Airport Phase 2, and is confident that it will acquire 20-25 per cent of the construction work for these projects, Plew said.

With strong and diversified subsidiaries like BEM, TTW and CK Power, CK is also ready to invest in the government’s infrastructure projects under the PPP scheme, including expressways, superhighways, electric train systems, power plants and water-treatment plants.

As for its investment outside the country, two key markets are Myanmar and Laos, where infrastructure development is seeing a high growth rate, he said.

CK chief executive officer Dr Supamas Trivisvavet said the company managed to maintain a strong revenue stream and profit ratio in 2015 with revenue of Bt38.02 billion and net profit of Bt2.26 billion.

Of the total revenue, Bt34.81 billion came from construction business, which grew by 5.62 per cent from 2014. The gross profit ratio for 2015 was 8.22 per cent.

After the strong performance in 2015, the company’s annual general shareholder meeting on 29 April 2016 agreed to pay a dividend of Bt0.40 per share. When combined with the previous interim dividend of Bt0.25 per share, the total dividend for its 2015 performance is Bt0.65 per share, she said.

For 2016, CK’s revenue target for construction business is Bt35 billion to Bt38 billion.

The company’s current backlog accounts for Bt83.55 billion.

Last month, the company signed a construction contract for the Pattaya-Map Ta Phut Motorway-Contract 5 project for Bt727 million.

The Na Bong Power Substation project in Laos, worth Bt2.2 billion, currently awaits contract signing.

The company was also recently awarded additional construction work for the Xayaburi Hydroelectric Power Plant Project in Laos worth Bt19 billion, for which the contract is expected to be signed later this year. The construction of Xayaburi Power Plant is now reaching 60 per cent completion as planned.

Chalermpong Darongsuwan, managing director of Philips Electronics (Thailand), launches a new campaign, entitled ‘Philips LED: The Right Light is Everything’ campaign, aimed to raise consumer’s awareness about the potential of LED innovation that extends b

Royal Philips, the Dutch manufacturer of electrical, medical and lighting products, will close its only fluorescent-light plant in Thailand next quarter and lay off about 200 workers.

The shutdown of the factory at the Bangpoo Industrial Estate in Samut Prakan comes as demand for fluorescent lamps dims in markets around the world.

Fluorescent lamps are gradually being replaced by light-emitting-diode (LED) lamps.

The plant produces more than 1,000 types of fluorescent lamps.

China will become a significant lighting production hub for Asia and the world.

In Thailand, the company separated its lighting business from medical and electric goods in February. The move will give its lighting operations more flexibility in managing its business and setting its growth plan.

The lighting business will be under Philips Electronics (Thailand), while medical and electrical appliances will be under a new company named Philips (Thailand).

The transformation aligns with the company’s strategy for creating a stronger foundation for future growth and innovation to address customer needs better and faster.

“Under the reshuffle, our head office is expecting significant growth in the lighting business and the creation of a new segment of smart and connected lighting,” said Chalermpong Darongsuwan, managing director of Philips Electronics (Thailand).

In Thailand, the contribution of fluorescent lamps in the overall lighting market is continuing to drop, from 30 per cent last year to 28 per cent expected this year.

Overall demand for electric lamps is expected to brighten by 3-4 per cent to about Bt6.1 billion this year.

LEDs have taken about 34 per cent of the market, with traditional lighting products still dominant.

However, in the Bt15.3-billion luminaire market, LEDs represent about 62 per cent.

“We believe that LEDs will share more than 50 per cent of the local electric-lamp segment in one or two years,” he said.

Philips will bring out about 1,000 LED products in Thailand this year.

“We will continue to encourage Thais to convert to LED bulbs, and this year, we are going to emphasise our position as the leader of the lighting market with the ‘Philips LED: The right light is everything’ campaign.

“This campaign will raise consumer awareness about the potential of LED innovation that extends beyond illumination and cost-saving to the building of a variety of mood settings around the house, as well as the creation of a warm and energetic atmosphere.

“It is to enhance life with light,” he said.

The company will also focus on positioning itself as a leading provider of lighting solutions, especially in project-based channels, such as the government’s infrastructure projects and the private sector’s housing and shopping-mall projects.

AIS, DTAC back start-ups to acquire innovative technology

START-UPS

ADVANCED Info Service (AIS) and Total Access Communication (DTAC) aim to transform themselves into digital service providers by backing innovation through accelerating start-ups.

DTAC has spun off DTAC Accelerate as a start-up investment and incubation business, while AIS has expanded AIS The Start-up into a digital-partner programme called AIS The Start-up Connect.

Sompoat Chansomboon, director of DTAC Accelerate, said DTAC aimed to build up the best Thai start-ups to go global.

DTAC Accelerate, started in 2013 as an in-house project, was spun off as a company last year to invest in and incubate start-ups. DTAC Accelerate this year has doubled its investment and incubation budget to Bt100 million from between Bt50 million and Bt60 million in 2015.

From 2013 to 2015, DTAC Accelerate groomed 11 start-ups, and its Batch 4 is ongoing with 11 teams.

Around 70 per cent of its 11 start-ups have raised funds from overseas surpassing US$5 million (Bt175 million), while total valuation is now above Bt1.2 billion.

DTAC Accelerate offers investment and incubation as well as co-working space. Its investment focuses on pre-seed funding of between $20,000 and $50,000 each.

DTAC Accelerate, which is 100 per cent invested by DTAC Trinet Network (DTN), is with an investment-business holding company.

“The benefits of DTAC Accelerate are not only financial gain but also adding innovation to DTAC’s services,” Sompoat said.

He said the potential areas for start-up innovation were financial technology, health tech, agri-tech, Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and virtual reality.

Suvit Arayawilaipong, senior vice president for product management at AIS, said the company took in start-ups as digital partners to offer innovative services to its customers. Therefore, AIS yesterday officially announced AIS The Start-up Connect to welcome as partners start-ups that already have products.

Currently, AIS has 23 digital partners, brought in through start-up competitions since 2011, to provide innovative services for AIS’s corporate and individual users.

“Being digital partners, start-ups will be offered help including payment platforms and market access,” Suvit said.

Meanwhile, AIS has also joined with InVent, the venture-capital team at InTouch, to invest in potential start-ups.

Thanapong Na-ranong, vice president and head of the venture-capital team, said InVent this year was concentrating on investing in Series B start-ups, because of the relative lack of investors in such businesses and the low risk.

With a 2016 investment budget of more than Bt200 million, InVent plans to invest in four start-ups, most of them Series B entities that usually each require more than Bt30 million.

InVent is a corporate fund, so it aims to invest in start-ups with a product or service that can be utilised, and is not looking to invest simply for financial gain, he said.

‘Digital money’ at core of expo

FINANCIAL institutions joining the Money Expo from May 12-15 will highlight digital money to deal with the increase in digital consumers and to help educate them on the upcoming national e-payment system.

Santi Viriyarangsarit, president of Money Expo, said yesterday that this year’s event would be held under the theme “Digital Life, Digital Money”, in response to the lifestyle of Thai society that is moving towards the digital era.

Next month will see the transition of magnetic-stripe debit cards to chip cards compatible with the national e-payment system, so the Money Expo will feature booths aimed at familiarising consumers with the digital economy, he said.

Financial institutions are ready to support economic activities through attractive campaigns in order to help consumers access financial services, and mortgages will still be the highlighted products at the expo.

Bt90-bn deals expected

The organiser hopes that transactions at the expo will be at least as high as the Bt90 billion recorded at last year’s event.

Krungsri Group (Bank of Ayudhya and its subsidiaries) will bring virtual teller machines (VTMs) to its digital-banking zone at the expo so people can see how they work. For mortgages, the key product at the event, the bank will offer an interest rate of 0.25 per cent per annum for the first six months.

Krungthai Bank will highlight VTMs as well, on which customers can open deposit accounts at the expo; the machines can also issue debit cards.

KTB will offer 0.99-per-cent interest per annum for the first nine months to mortgage borrowers at the fair and highlight the unsecured-loan product it calls Super Easy, offering an annual interest rate of 15 per cent to salary earners.

Kasikornbank will demonstrate new features of its K-Mobile Banking Plus on Facebook Live. It will also offer free Wi-Fi at the booth to encourage customers to download KBank’s applications to watch promotions of its products.

Siam Commercial Bank will demonstrate smart-check-in technology at its booth on the first day of Money Expo. Moreover, the bank will set up an “innovative space” to cater to digital customers who want to do transactions via online banking.

Government Savings Bank will offer the most attractive campaigns at the event, such as zero interest for the first six months for its housing loans and a savings deposit product paying a per-annum interest rate of 4.25 per cent for 103 days.

NMG approves dividend, picks new directors

ศาสตร์เกษตรดินปุ๋ย : ขอบคุณแหล่งข้อมูล : หนังสือพิมพ์ The Nation

http://www.nationmultimedia.com/business/NMG-approves-dividend-picks-new-directors-30284855.html

NATION MULTIMEDIA Group (NMG)’s 2016 annual general meeting of shareholders yesterday approved a dividend payment of Bt122 million and appointed new directors to its board of directors.

Duangkamol Chotana, chief executive officer of NMG, said a dividend of Bt0.03 per share for 4,067.64 million shares or a total of Bt122 million for 2015 operations will be paid on May 24 this year. In addition, the shareholders’ meeting yesterday approved the appointment of Pichita Mahaphol as an independent director, replacing Chaveng Jariyapisut who completed his term.

Pichita was a former managing director of King Power Hotel and Management Co and executive director of BTS Group. The shareholders’ meeting also approved Kemkorn Vachirawarakarn and Adisak Limprungpatanakij as directors for another term.

Duangkamol said the print business had slowed due to the sluggish economic condition and changing consumer behaviour prompting the company to boost its onlined contents while the digital TV business is improving with NOW26 reporting an increase of viewers over the past six months. As of March 31, 2016, NOW26 reached 53 million viewers with an average rating of 0.127 and was ranked 13th among all digital TV channels. In the past six months, the number of viewers has more than doubled, especially during prime time when the average rating was 0.33 per cent due to high quality documentaries and other programming. She said NOW26 aims to be in the top-10 ranking with emphasis on more domestic and international sports events such as Thai boxing, vollayball, basketball, and taekundo.

Meanwhile, Siriwat Worawetwuthikun, a minor shareholder, said NMG should consider taking legal actions against those who violated share acquisition rules as recently identified by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The SEC earlier said Siwasit Sainampeuang, Polaris Capital and News Network had violated the rules when acquiring more than 25 per cent shares of NMG without making a tender offer.

A FORMER executive of Sanook.com has partnered with digital media agency Rabbit’s Tale to set up Moonshot Digital, a new public relations and content agency, targeting at least 10 clients this year.

“From our observation, more than 80 per cent of brands in the market are still using digital media as marketing and communication tools. But we believe that those brands should act as publishers that really understand what customers want to hear from them. This [could] create long-term relationships between the two parties,” said Jakrapong Kongmalai, managing director of Moonshot Digital.

The company is a 50:50 joint venture between Rabbit’s Tale and Jakrapong, who was formerly a vice president of Sanook Online, the operator of Sanook.com, and head of its content business.

“In the digital era, brands should learn how to communicate virtually what target consumers are keen on, and not only the messages that the brand wants to send,” Jakrapong said.

He added that there was room to grow in this segment and to introduce an online PR service, ranging from community relations, content creation, and social-reputation and crisis management to strategic brand communication.

The company believes that digital PR plays a vital role in the digital media industry’s growth.

According to the Digital Advertising Association (Thailand), digital-advertising expenditure this year is expected to soar to Bt9.927 billion, an increase of 23 per cent from 2015. This figure excludes advertising spending via Facebook and Google.

Saroj Laohasiri, head of strategy at Moonshot Digital, said he wanted to have at least 10 clients this year but declined to disclose the revenue target.

Rungroj Tancharoen, managing director of Rabbit’s Tale, said his company would work together with Moonshot to integrate its core strength in digital communications and content creation. To date, three clients of Rabbit’s Tale have already used Moonshot Digital’s services. “We are eyeing the high spenders in digital media, which are in the telecommunication, financial and banking, retails and real-estate sectors,” Rungroj said.

IWIND welcomes China partner

BEIJING-BASED Goldwind International Holding, a global leader in manufacturing wind turbine generators and providing comprehensive wind power solutions, is taking a 10-per-cent stake in a Thai renewable energy company.

Sumet Sutthapaki, executive chairman of Inter Far East Wind International, or IWIND, said yesterday that the initial agreement signed with the Chinese company would result in mutual benefits.

Goldwind seeks to grow demand for wind turbines in Asia, while the Thai company would see smooth capacity expansion across Asia. IWIND’s benefits include a chance to co-invest in the Chinese company’s projects, which target combined installation of 8 gigawatts.

IWIND has already bought wind turbines with a capacity of 8.96 megawatts from Goldwind for its project in Nakhon Si Thammarat, which is expected to commence commercial operations next quarter.

Sumet also unveiled the plan to take over HBRE, a wind power company based in Daklak in central Vietnam.

HBRE has secured a power purchase agreement for 22MW and expects a further agreement for 62MW. The commercial operations of the project are slated for the fourth quarter.

“This is part of a 210MW project,” he said. “Wind power offers a great opportunity in Vietnam due to domestic demand and demand from neighbouring countries,” he said.

Late last year, IWIND acquired 30 per cent of a 30MW wind power project on Jeju Island in South Korea, which is being developed by Hanshin Energy.

To cope with greater demand for clean energy on the island, the company plans to raise its interest to 50 per cent.

Mergers and acquisitions of projects overseas would be quickened to raise the company’s capacity to 1GW in 2019, he added.
