Bangkokians will get the chance to enjoy a musical extravaganza next Sunday when four marching bands come together to compete for the top prize.
Tickets to the show, which will be held at the Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, will be put on sale by the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) from Monday.
The battle will be between two Bangkok schools – Wat Sutthi Wararam School and Wachiratham Sathit School – and two from Nakhon Ratchasima – Sura Naree Witthaya School and Ratchasima Witthayalai School.
The show will start at 2pm, BMA said in its Facebook announcement.
Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt visited Wachiratham Sathit School at noon on Saturday to observe rehearsals.
“I would like to thank you all for representing Bangkok in the contest,” Chadchart told the students.
“Don’t be serious. Have fun while playing. You represent Bangkok in this friendly match with Korat [Nakhon Ratchasima]. Just entertain Korat people and all others and show that you’re capable.”
The governor said he expects at least 4,000 seats to be filled.
“I’m sure all of you are ready. Just enjoy and be happy while playing the music,” the governor added.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson seemed to hover above the stage as he arrived dressed as Black Adam, the superhero he’s playing in the upcoming movie of the same name at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
Talking to Reuters backstage after getting changed into his civilian clothes, Johnson said “You get one shot to come to Comic-Con and hopefully you move the crowd and do good and so in that effort and ambition, I didn’t want to show up just as myself. I said ‘No, get the costume ready because I’m going to put that costume on’ even though it takes 25 minutes to put it on and longer to take it off sometimes so the best part about today was the reactions, the audience’s reaction and they went crazy.”
‘Black Adam’ has been a passion project of Johnson’s for nearly a decade and it’s finally going to be hitting cinemas this October.
Asked why he felt such an affinity to the character, Johnson said “He has had to overcome so much and this idea for me of the gut and the grit and the mettle in here, like the mana in here that it takes to overcome some of life’s greatest challenges is always, to me, very interesting and that philosophically I have the DNA for that, that kind of overcoming odds.”
And in case people don’t know who Black Adam is, Johnson is here to explain.
He said “Pound for pound, he’s pretty close to Superman. He has those powers. Superman’s greatest weakness is magic. One of Black Adam’s greatest powers is magic so that’s one of his bases and his anchors so when you start to break it down that way and get really nerdy, comic book nerdy, you realize ‘Holy shit, Black Adam is a special character’.”
But could he beat Superman in a fight?
“Ah. We’ll just have to see,” said Johnson, laughing.
The glittering headpiece titled “Power of Resilience” was revealed at the Ignite the Night Gala Dinner and Jewelry Fashion Show held at the Royal Orchid in Bangkok
Sheraton Hotel & Tower, Bangkok in the presence of VIP guests and media.
Fred Mouawad, co-guardian of the family-owned jewellers, explained the crown celebrated the resilience shown by Thai citizens in the face of the pandemic.
It features two motifs: the peacock feather and lotus flower, to symbolise the interlocking harmony of community. Meanwhile, the green hues of its peridot gemstones radiate fresh beginnings and growth. The crown is encrusted with 43 pear-shaped peridots and one marquise peridot, weighing 101.08 carats. These are nestled among 158.24 carats of marquise-cut and round white topaz gems and 4.19 carats of round white diamonds to evoke purity and honesty.
Mouawad said every element of the crown has been handcrafted by its experts, resulting in a unique, bespoke work destined to crown the winner of Miss Universe Thailand 2022, to be announced on Saturday (July 30). The winner will be crowned by the current Miss Universe Thailand, Anchilee Scott-Kemmis, at the culmination of the 23rd edition and will go on to represent Thailand at the Miss Universe 2022 international pageant.
U.S. rock band Pearl Jam cancelled a concert in Vienna on Wednesday (July 20) after singer Eddie Vedder’s vocal chords were damaged at an outdoor venue near Paris by the heat, dust and smoke from fires.
“To all those who were anticipating a great Pearl Jam show tonight in Vienna, we were too. However, due to the extreme circumstances at the last outdoor site outside of Paris (heat, dust, and smoke from the fires) our singer Ed Vedder’s throat was left damaged,” the group said in a statement posted on social media.
Pearl Jam performed at the Lollapalooza Paris music festival at the weekend amid a heat wave with spikes well above 40 Celsius (104F) in southern Europe.
Firefighters in southwestern France have been battling since July 12 to contain massive forest wildfires while Britain recorded its highest ever temperature on Tuesday.
“Those who work so hard to put on the shows as well as those who give their precious time and energies to attend…, as a band, we are deeply sorry and have tried to find options to still play,” Pearl Jam said.
“And Ed wants to play. There’s just no throat available at this time…So very, very deeply sorry.”
The band said tickets would be refunded.
Wednesday’s Vienna concert was part of Pearl Jam’s European tour, with the next stop scheduled in Prague on Friday.

Four years on from the dramatic rescue of a group of 12 boys and their soccer coach from a cave in Thailand their story has been brought to the big screen by Oscar-winning filmmaker Ron Howard.
The “Wild Boar” soccer team was exploring the Tham Luang cave complex in northern Thailand’s Chiang Rai in June 2018 when monsoon rains flooded the tunnels and trapped them underground.
The boys, aged between 11 and 16, and their 25-year-old coach survived nine days in a partially flooded chamber some four kilometres (2.5 miles) inside the cave by drinking water dripping from the rocks before they were discovered by two British cave divers.
The complicated rescue operation took nearly three weeks and involved Thailand’s elite navy SEAL units and volunteers from around the world.
“Thirteen Lives” recreates the 17-day ordeal inside the sprawling cave complex and out above the mountain covering it where volunteers, engineers and soldiers pumped millions of litres of water out of the cave and drilled through rocks looking for gaps to reach the boys and to make way for water pipes and power cables.
“It’s stunning what was achieved. And it’s not just about the heroic divers. You know, it really is an entire community and a country and a lot of countries ultimately participating and making something, you know, amazing come true,” Howard told Reuters as he attended the film’s premiere in London’s Leicester Square on Monday.
“Thirteen Lives” stars Viggo Mortensen and Colin Farrell as British divers Rick Stanton and John Volanthen with Australian actor Joel Edgerton taking on the role of Harry Harris, who was brought on to help out when options to save the boys were running out.
Stanton, Volanthen and members of the international rescue dive team, Chris Jewell, Josh Bratchley and Connon Roe, attended Monday’s event, praising Howard’s interpretation of the events.
“I think it’s good for people to know, you know, what happened. It’s not a documentary, but it’s pretty much true to life. And what is completely realistic and emotive is the feeling, you know, the crowd scenes and what was going on in the cave camp and in the cave. It really does replicate it very, very well,” said Stanton.
Volanthen admitted to not knowing who Farrell was before filming began, but said he was impressed with the Irish actor’s dedication to bringing him to life on screen.
“I had no idea who Colin was because I’m not really a movie buff, but he seems to have done a really good job. He seems to have been very diligent. He even took up running to be as a method actor, as it were. He’s done a really good job,” he said.
The rescue efforts claimed the life of a former Thai navy SEAL diver who had volunteered to help while another Thai navy SEAL officer died 1.5 years later from a blood infection he contracted during the operation.
“Thirteen Lives” will be released in select US and UK cinemas on July 29 and launches globally on Amazon Prime Video on August 5.

Singer Jennifer Lopez and actor Ben Affleck have obtained a license to get married in Las Vegas, a local official said on Sunday, after the celebrity couple rekindled a romance almost 20 years after they first got together.
The marriage license was issued by Clark County in the state of Nevada dated Saturday, July 16, according to document details posted online by the county clerk’s office.
It was not immediately clear, however, whether the two had officially tied the knot. County Clerk Lynn Marie Goya said the license is valid for up to one year.
“I can confirm that Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez obtained a married license last night, but their marriage certificate has not yet been filed,” she said in a statement to Reuters.
Celebrity website TMZ and People Magazine, among other outlets, reported that Affleck and Lopez had wed. People Magazine, citing a source, said the couple had married during a small, private ceremony.
Reuters has not independently verified that the couple wed.
A representative for Affleck could not immediately be reached for comment. Phones rang unanswered at Lopez’s talent agency Creative Artists Agency.
Affleck and Lopez, a glamorous duo widely known as “Bennifer,” got back together last year after almost 20 years. They got engaged in April of this year.
In 2002 Affleck gave Lopez a large 6.1-carat pink diamond engagement ring, but they abruptly called off their wedding in 2003 and split up a few months later.
