Slap rocks the Oscars this year after joke goes wrong

Though Hollywood comedians are known for their insensitivity on stage, Chris Rock may have gone one step too far during the Oscars on Monday.

Slap rocks the Oscars this year after joke goes wrong

In fact, his joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s decision to shave her head was so insensitive that it won him a slap across the face from actor Will Smith.

When Rock joked about Pinkett Smith, comparing her to the character Demi Moore played in the film “G I Jane”, in which she had shaved her hair, Smith walked on stage and slapped Rock in what appeared to be a scripted joke.

The mood however turned sour when Smith shouted: “Keep my wife’s name out of your f**king mouth.”

Smith, who won the Best Actor award for his role as Richard Williams in “King Richard”, later apologised for his outburst during his acceptance speech.

Pinkett Smith chose to start shaving her head in 2018 to deal with hair loss issues and has spoken in the past about her battle with alopecia.

Rock has reportedly said he will not file a police complaint against Smith over the slap.

In a viral clip, Lisa was seen surrounded by a few young women as she stepped out of the three-storey air-conditioned shophouse in Soi Chokechai 4. She wore a hat and a face mask and was driven away in a white vehicle.

Lisa, who has not returned to her homeland for almost three years, landed in Thailand on Tuesday to celebrate her birthday with her family at her Buri Ram home. She turns 24 on Thursday.

Her fans commented on the posts sharing the clip that Lisa was “down-to-earth” and “did not hire bodyguards like other international artists”. Many of the fans also said they would try out the barbeque shop.

On September 11 last year, roadside fried fish-ball shops became all the rage after Lisa revealed that she liked the fish balls sold behind Buri Ram railway station. Many of her fans subsequently swamped the shop there for a taste.Blackpink’s Lisa spotted at barbeque shop in Bangkok

Nipa Wiriyanuparp, 37, the owner of a shop in Buri Ram, said her fish balls had become popular following Lisa’s comment. She said she had opened as many as 100 branches across the country.

Nipa said she would love to welcome Lisa on her birthday and would allow the singer and her fans to eat fish balls for free on the day.

Before heading home, Lalisa had reportedly gone to France and Italy to participate in promotional activities for Italian luxury brand Bulgari, which is known for its jewellery, watches and other luxury goods. The K-pop star is Bulgari’s global ambassador.

Lalisa sparked controversy last week when she was chosen as the brand ambassador for Scotch whisky Chivas Regal. Many of her fans wondered if she would be charged under Section 32 of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Act.

According to Section 32, “no person shall advertise or display, directly or indirectly, the name or trademark of any alcoholic beverage in a manner showing the properties thereof or inducing another person to drink”.

The biggest winner was page 25 from the comic book “Secret Wars No 8”, rendered by Mike Zack, which sold for a staggering $3.36 million, while page 24 from the same book sold for $288,000. These two pages are prized because they show the emergence of the webslinger’s black symbiote suit that led to the rise of the character Venom.

Bidding for page 25 started at $330,000 and went past $3 million in the first of the four-day event organised by Dallas-based Heritage Auction.

This sale shattered the previous record set in 2014 when a page from a 1974 issue of “Incredible Hulk” featuring the rise of Wolverine was sold for $657,250.

Thursday also saw several other comic books raking in big sums, including the Action Comics No 1 1938 debut of Superman, which sold for $3.18 million.
