His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana performed a religious ceremony to make merit on Coronation Day at the Grand Palace’s Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district on Wednesday at 10am.

They were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, the Princess Rajasarinisiribajra, and Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya.

Their Majesties were welcomed by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Princess Debaratanarajasuda, the Princess Royal, and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn, the Princess Srisavangavadhana, at Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall.

During the ceremony, the King attended prayers by a group of 20 Buddhist monks, after which he offered alms to them.

Their Majesties then paid respects to the nine Buddha images built in honour of the past nine monarchs of the Chakri Dynasty – Kings Rama I to Rama IX – before leaving the throne hall.

Members of the public were allowed to pay homage to former kings at Prasat Phra Thep Bidon (Royal Pantheon) in the Emerald Buddha Temple inside the Grand Palace complex on Wednesday.

At noon, the Royal Thai Army, Royal Thai Navy and Royal Thai Air Force fired cannons, 21 shots from each, from the north side of Sanam Luang to celebrate Coronation Day.

Saturday, May 4, 2019, was the start of a 3-day traditional ceremony which culminated in the coronation of Thailand’s 10th King of the Chakri Dynasty. The first day of HM King Maha Vajiralongkorn’s Coronation, May 4, is now commemorated as a public holiday in Thailand each year.

Coronation Day commemorates the formal consecration of the King by anointment and crowning.

Historically, the coronation ceremony took place as soon as possible after the death of the previous monarch. However, in the last century this tradition has been replaced by a mourning period of about a year following the succession.

Coronation Day falls on May 4 to commemorate the crowning of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn in 2019.

The Thai Red Cross Society and Kasikorn X (KX) have jointly unveiled “Digital Arts NFT: RedCross x KX” – a digital art exhibition to showcase the artworks of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.

This is the first time in Thai art history that art pieces will be presented in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on Coral, an NFT marketplace platform of KX. Proceeds from sales of the artworks will be presented to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the Thai Red Cross Society.

Interested persons are invited to view the exhibition offline and online on the NFT Innovation Wall from Tuesday until May 14, at ICON Art & Culture Space, 8th Floor, ICONSIAM.

Tej Bunnag, secretary-general of the Thai Red Cross Society, said, “Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who is also Executive Vice President of Thai Red Cross Society, is the first artist who has graciously given art pieces to the Thai Red Cross Society’s exhibition. It is organised by the Fund Raising Bureau of the Thai Red Cross Society. The event is aimed at inviting donations on the Coral Platform of KX in the form of non-fungible tokens or NFTs. Furthermore, the exhibition also affirms Her Royal Highness’s vision and clemency towards the Thai people, with the purpose of preparing all Thais for any adverse incidents, and to provide relief and recovery from natural disasters and threats caused by emerging diseases.” 

The first donations via the Coral Platform will be granted by Her Royal Highness to the Disaster Relief Emergency Fund of the Thai Red Cross Society for use in the aforementioned objectives.

Pasinee Limatibul, member of the Thai Red Cross Society Committee and Chairman of ICONSIAM Co Ltd, added that a total of 32 art pieces including oil paintings, watercolour paintings, crayon paintings, poster colour paintings and lithographs were given to the Thai Red Cross Society from Her Royal Highness’s collection, and the history of each painting has been presented in Her Royal Highness’s books.

The oldest paintings are “Barbados Pride Trees”, painted in 1963 when Her Royal Highness was in Grade 3, whereas “Purple Vase” was inspired by oil paintings of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who had given remaining paints to Her Royal Highness. Additionally, there are paintings that reflect the lifestyles of people from all walks of life, such as “Rice Farmers and Miners”, “Temple of the Emerald Buddha”, as well as those inspired by poems or various other works of literature.

The Princess’s 32 paintings reflect her genius in arts and as a storyteller via her memoirs. Her paintings will be converted into digital files on the Coral Platform of KX to offer the public an opportunity to view their artistic genius while also enhancing and connecting the art world to the digital world in a seamless manner.

The exhibition featuring Her Royal Highness’s artworks will be on display from today until May 14, at ICON Art & Culture Space on the 8th floor of ICONSIAM. Opening hours are 11am to 8pm on weekdays, and 10am to 8pm on weekends. Subsequently, the artworks will be uploaded to the coralworld.co website for future viewing, and donations can be made from June 2022 onwards.

The ceremony took place at 5.39pm in Choonhavan Hall, where 267 police officers received their graduation honours for the academic year 2020.

The King and Queen granted diplomas and ceremonial swords to each of the graduates in turn.

His Majesty then gave a speech to all graduates, emphasising that apart from knowledge and skills, they must show honesty in their duties and daily life.

The King advised graduates to be mindful in their actions, speech and thought in order to maintain peace for the country and people.

The ceremony took place at 6pm in Dusidalai Hall, where military officers received their graduation honours for the academic year 2021.

Chief of the Defence Forces General Chalermpol Srisawat read the names of graduates from the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy, the Royal Thai Naval Academy, The Navaminda Kasatriyadhiraj Royal Air Force Academy, and military academies overseas.

The King and Queen granted diplomas and swords to each of the graduates in turn.

His Majesty then gave a speech to all graduates, congratulating them for completing their education at prestigious academies and urging the graduates to continue accumulating knowledge by expanding their vision and keeping abreast of the ever-changing world.

The King advised military graduates to adapt new technology, innovation and know-how to their duties for the benefit of the country and people.

He wished them good luck in their new military careers.

Their Majesties the King and Queen performed a merit-making ceremony at the Grand Palace on Friday to mark the Thai New Year.

They were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha, Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana, and His Royal Highness Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti at the ceremony held in the Amarin Winitchai Throne Hall.

During the ceremony, the King attended prayers by a group of Buddhist monks, after which he offered alms to them.

He paid respects to royal urns carrying the relics and ashes of former Thai kings of the Chakri Dynasty. He also sprinkled holy water on the urns, as part of a Songkran tradition.

The Queen offered robes to the monks who participated in the ceremony.

Their Majesties then paid respects to the nine Buddha images built in honour of the past nine monarchs of the Chakri Dynasty — Kings Rama I to Rama IX.

They later paid homage to the royal urns of the former kings on their way out of the throne hall.

Before leaving the Grand Palace, Their Majesties greeted a large group of people gathering for royal audience.

Members of the public were allowed to pay homage to former kings at Prasat Phra Thep Bidon (Royal Pantheon) in the Emerald Buddha Temple, inside the Grand Palace complex, from 8am to 1pm on Friday.

In a Royal ceremony marking Chakri Day, Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana paid their respects to King Rama I statue on Wednesday near Saphan Phutthayotfa or Memorial Bridge in Bangkok’s Phra Nakhon district.

Their Majesties were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendira Debyavati, the Princess Rajasarinisiribajra.

After Their Majesties placed floral pedestal trays in front of the statue, they travelled to the Royal Pantheon in Wat Phra Si Rattana Satsadaram (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) to make merit for the late Kings of the Chakri dynasty, before returning to Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Dusit Palace.

Officially known as “King Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok the Great Day and Chakri Dynasty Memorial Day”, Chakri Day commemorates the establishment of the Chakri Dynasty by King Phra Phutthayotfa Chulalok (King Rama I) on April 6, 1782.

Chakri Day commemorates the coronation of King Rama I but is also a day for Thais to recognise the contributions of all Kings in the dynasty.

Their Majesties King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana presided over the opening ceremony of the Nongfai Groundwater Project in Kanchanaburi’s Lao Khwan district on Sunday.

Their majesties were welcomed by Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha, Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, Natural Resources and Environment Minister Warawut Silpa-archa, and the general public.

The King unveiled the nameplate of the Nongfai Groundwater Project before conferring honorary plaques and gifts to individuals and institutes who contributed to the project. The King and Queen then visited an exhibition of the project’s history, a demonstration farming area, and the mineral-water plant that uses groundwater from the project. After a tree-planting ceremony in front of a water tank, they returned to Bangkok via helicopter.

The Nongfai Groundwater Project was launched in April last year as one of the 15 royal initiatives of King Maha Vajiralongkorn. The project comprises eight 200-metre-deep groundwater wells, two water tanks with 2,000-cubic-metre capacity and a pressure control tower in Nongfai subdistrict to supply water. It will supply water to 37,600 households and 557,000 rai of farmland in Kanchanaburi province during drought season. The construction of the wells and water tanks was completed in November 2021. Since then, the project has used mineral-rich groundwater to produce 2 billion litres of drinking water per year and delivered it to over 3 million people in 512 villages.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana presided over the opening ceremony of the Navamindrapobitr 84th Anniversary Building at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok Noi district at 5.18pm on Wednesday.

Their Majesties were accompanied by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and were welcomed by Siriraj Hospital’s dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof Dr Prasit Watanapa, hospital director Dr Wisit Wamwanich, and hospital executives and staff.

After the King pressed a button to unveil the Navamindrapobitr 84th Anniversary Building, Their Majesties went to the 100th Anniversary Siriraj Pavilion to visit the Navamindrapobitr Memorial Exhibition, which pays homage to His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, who had instructed construction of the medical centre building at Siriraj Hospital in 2013 on the occasion of his 84th birthday.

After visiting the exhibition, Their Majesties went to the B2 floor of the Navamindrapobitr 84th Anniversary Building to witness a demonstration of medical equipment at the Radiation Therapy Centre, then signed their names in the visitors’ book in front of the portrait of King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and graciously took photos with hospital executives before returning to Amphorn Sathan Residential Hall in Dusit Palace.

The Navamindrapobitr 84th Anniversary Building comprises 25 storeys plus two basement floors and a medical centre with a usable area of 67,551 square metres. It can accommodate 500,000 outpatients and 20,000 inpatients per year. It is fully equipped with modern medical technology, including 62 ICU rooms and the first and only Magnetic Resonance Imaging Guided Linear Accelerator in Southeast Asia for treatment of cancer patients.

The building was funded by a donation from the King at 100 million baht in August 2017 and another 700 million baht in May 2019 to buy medical equipment, as well as donations from the general public under a funding campaign supervised by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
